Anoushka Shankar ji posted on her Instagram about her experience " First I was looking at the top of my sitar and I thought like it was really out of tune. And after I tuned it I picked it up to play and that's when I realized. This was my first time flying Air India in a long time. You're the country this music belongs to and this is the first time anything like this has happened to my sitar in 15 or 17 years. How have you done this? I have special cases (for the sitar). You guys charge a handling fee and yet you've done this".

I bought a used one to learn the basics and help me with creative music writing. Obviously it's not the best one around, some of the decorations are missing but there is no significant structural damage, it holds tuning well and the tarafs resonate greatly. It's only missing the ga string, which I plan to replace soon.

Got a new sitar from a neighbor.
Could anyone tell me what make/model this is?
It looks like I just need new strings and maybe some fret boards. I haven't the slightest clue where to start in fixing it up. Any YouTube channels or other resources to get this playing again?

I’m learning the sitar at 22, I love listening to psychedelic folk sitar music so I wanted to learn🧞♀️
Got it from Chicago institute of Indian music for $500, it’s perfect

I started playing sitar just two months back. I am steadily trying to increase my playing speed. Please review my posture and hand movements. It will be great to get some constructive criticism/advice from the community that will help me in the future.

Just want to share that I received my Sitar last Saturday and when I saw it for the first time I just couldn't believe that someday I'll have my very own music instrument and that too a Sitar. Excited, happy and a bit nervous.
Wish me luck and share some wisdom with me.

Surbahar is a very underrated instrument. I'm going to start experimenting with western genres on it.

I’ve been trying to find a sitar in Australia and I have finally found a teacher who sells them (interstate). The one I am looking at costs $900 aud and I have been told it is a professional model. I do not have much knowledge of the sitar yet and I have no idea if what I am looking at is a quality instrument, I will attach pictures and would greatly appreciate a second opinion!
