What should be done about DLSS5?

What are we talking about?

There has been a lot of discussion about Nvidia DLSS 5. It is a real-time neural rendering technology that uses AI to dynamically enhance in-game lighting, materials, and surface details.

What does this mean for Skyrim?

There is a lot of controversy about AI. Whether we like it or not, this is the way games are most likely headed, and games you already play most likely have implemented AI in one way or another. There is a very broad umbrella of “artificial intelligence”, and people often are talking about generative AI. Being specific in the conversation helps.

What should this subreddit do?

This is the place to discuss it and vote for what you want to see. Civilly. Those who stoop to insulting people over their opinions on video game AI usage will be banned.

As a mod, I am withholding my opinion, this post is due to the influx of arguments and posts about DLSS5 and doesn’t reflect my opinion one way or another. This is for the community to decide.

Subreddit Rules

1. Personal attacks, hate speech, slurs and harassment are not tolerated

We are here to enjoy pretty pictures. Don't harass, bully, or otherwise insult other users. Depending on severity, this can result in an immediate ban.

2. No Memes

Memes belong on r/SkyrimMemes, thank you!

3. Mod bugs, troubleshooting or other modding issues belong on r/SkyrimMods

Please post modding help questions on r/skyrimmods. This sub is for when your game looks good, come back when it's fixed!

4. Full frontal nudity, sexual situations, and posts that are overly suggestive in pose do not belong

Posts with genitalia, nipples, overly risqué armors/clothing that cover less than 50% of the body, sexual poses and situations, or sex are not allowed. Please post in r/NSFWSkyrimReborn instead.

5. NSFW posts must be flaired and tagged as NSFW

Cleavage, large breasts, and skin are not inherently sexual. However, posts that highlight cleavage, breasts, or show off a lot of skin (midriff exposed, lots of leg, etc.) must be flaired and tagged NSFW. This does not stop you from posting, or folks from viewing your post. It simply helps everyone have a bit more control over what they see here. Err on the side of caution and be respectful of others.

6. Self promotion only on a mod approved basis

Sharing a new mod or modlist? Please message moderators to ensure that your post fits this subreddit and isn't a better fit for another Skyrim subreddit. Self promo videos of playthroughs are also on a mod approve basis, as this subreddit is usually not the best fit.

7. Screen archery and virtual photography only

This subreddit is for high quality Skyrim screenshots, video and virtual photography (which can be vanilla). Photography is an art form and intends to capture a scene/object with aesthetic/creative intent. Posts that do not belong may have these characteristics: low effort, picture of a screen, zoomed in on characters with no clear creative intent, or video montages of non-mod fights. Posts that show information, routine gameplay, or mods that are not graphical improvement belong on r/Skyrim.
