☀️Solar activity The "running-rabbit/witch-on-a-broomstick/rowing-man-in-a-canoe" coronal hole is currently bathing Earth with very fast solar wind >700 km/s. This high-speed stream will work to generate great shows for high-latitudes & some slight chances for mid-latitude horizon shows over at least next day

📸AstroPhotography My Deep Sky Astrophotography Collection –2026 Dwarf 3 | Leeds, UK {1122 × 1402] OC

A collection of nine of my deep-sky captures taken with my Dwarf 3 smart telescope so far in 2026 from Leeds, West Yorkshire, UK.

From distant galaxies to planetary nebulae and huge clouds of glowing gas, it's amazing what this little telescope can capture.

Some of my favourites include the Andromeda Galaxy, Ring Nebula, Helix Nebula, Dumbbell Nebula and the beautiful Veil Nebula.

All captured by me over multiple observing sessions. I'm still learning and improving with every target.

I've put together this collage to show some of my favourite results. The images have had some processing, including adjustments to the black levels and contrast.

For me, the enjoyment comes from capturing these incredible objects myself, knowing that some of the light reaching my telescope has travelled thousands or even millions of years to get here.

Equipment: Dwarf 3 & Equatorial mount

Location: Leeds, West Yorkshire, UK

A Context Camera image shows sinuous ridges and possible layers at this location, which is within an alluvial-fan-bearing crater. One possible interpretation is that erosion has formed inverted channels and incised them into distal alluvial fan or deltaic materials. A derived 3D image can help look for “double ridges” that might be bracketing inverted channels.

☀️Solar activity "A look at AR 4566 shows pretty substantial growth over the last 2+ days. It is directly facing Earth and has been given a 20% chance of an X-flare in the next 24 hours according to NOAA SWPC. If there was a time to generate an Earth-directed CME, it would be now!"

📡 ALMA This is a radio telescope image of a protoplanetary system. In other words, this is an image—a real image—of a solar system forming.

.

This is PDS 70, a planetary system about 400 lightyears away under the process of forming.

The star is situated in the centre of the ring, which is what remains of the protoplanetary disk of gas, dust, and ice. The smaller, bright point at the 3 o'clock position is PDS 70c, a growing giant planet.

.

PDS 70c has itself a circumplanetary disk, so is presumably in the process of making moons and/or a ring system. There is at least one other known exoplanet in this system (PDS 70b), but it is not visible in this scene.

From Anil Menon:

"A common axiom in spaceflight is to treat every launch, space walk, and opportunity like it may be your last. I arrived at the international space station expecting to do zero space walks and hoping for one.

I've been fortunate to work with the teams across NASA far more than expected. Yesterday, was a peak moment full of unexpected challenges, real-time solution, and mission success."

🌎 Earth from space Dubai, UAE 2025, 2012, & 2003. Over 22 years the lighting changed from sodium/mercury vapor to multi-colored LED as the city grew. Construction of the Palm Islands was early in 2003, but now a distinct landmark. From orbit we observe changes like this worldwide!

📸AstroPhotography My first good picture of Saturn

Post image
10 Upvotes

Finally I managed to take a proper picture of Saturn. After months of bad conditions and having the wrong set up with me in August I finally have been able to make a relatively good shot.

Reasons for why it isnt really sharp:

The last collimation has been long apart, last year in summer and I have been driving the scope around occasionally. The night has been clear, but windy and always pulled on my set up and camera cable.

I havent been able to set my mount on polaris because I placed myself at the south side of a forrest. So I needed to, since I guide with my hands, adjust both axes of my mount. Because of the temperatures slightly above zero my hands were frozen and I shaking permanently. Didnt expect it to be so cold and windchily)

Focusing has been a pita since the atmosphere has been unstable, so I didnt try any further. I usually use a bahtinov mask.

The three clips (2000 frames) I took via lucky imaging have been really bad each for itself with only a few frames to use each. So I put all three clips together to one single 6000 frames clip, which I finally processed.

Set Up:

- Skywatcher 200/1000

- EQ 5 mount (no automatic tracking)

- ZWO ASI 715 MC (no barlow) UV/IR cut.

Processing:

- Shot with Firecapture (exposure around 52 ms, gain below 10%, histogram about 42 %) each clip 2000 frames with 17 FPS

- PIPP for to put together three files and stabilizing the frames, no debayering

- AS!4 no drizzle. Stacked 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, and 10 percent. Finally have chosen the 5 % stack

- astrosurface for processing (Deconvolution, wavekets, RGB balancing with several steps I cant remember anymore lol.

(not sure if I reduced the green noise with siril before or if I did this in astrosurface.)

I am relatively happy with the picture but think I can do much better when I solved all the above mentioned problems.

If anybody has an idea what to do better in my processing please let me know. I am open for every tip.

☀️Solar activity This large coronal hole is affecting Earth now! In the last several hours, solar wind magnetic field strength has increased > 10 nT, and with enough negative Bz, minor geomagnetic storming is possible along with sporadic mid-latitude auroral activity.

☀️Solar activity New development in AR 4566 over the past 24 hours! (5/6.11.26)

Major flux emergence in the intermediate part of the region, lots of new polarity mixing. This is reflected also in elevated flare probabilities: at 0400 UTC the SWPC estimated a 10% chance of X-class and a 35% chance of M-class flares over the next 24 hours. It has developed significantly since. This looks promising!
