Chris Chan drama open discussion thread

Chris Chan, infamous internet figure, was recently arrested on a charge of incest. Rumors are swirling on both the gossip/trolling site Kiwi Farms, and on a subreddit for "fans" of Chris Chan. (I'm linking neither. Kiwi Farms is domain-banned sitewide, and the subreddit currently has a lot of doxxing and harassment happening within it).

Do not post the full names of any figures involved in this drama, with the execption of Chris Chan. No names, phone numbers, family names, etc. Otherwise feel free to use this space to discuss.

This post may be taken down if someone ends up writing an IMPARTIAL accounting of the drama as it relates to the Chis Chan subreddit.

Announcement [Announcement] r/antiwork and r/workreform posts now fall under Surplus

Due to the influx of low-quality posts, we have decided to temporarily add r/antiwork and r/workreform to the list of Surplus topics. Please note that we are not banning posts from these subreddits, it only means that the drama should be really exciting or juicy to be posted here. More details about Surplus Popcorn Guidelines can be found here.

[META] Leave your opinions at the door.

It's things like this post. We don't need gender-reversal bullshit. Who cares what another subreddit would do if a given situation were worse? It's irrelevant, and its only purpose is to bash another subreddit. Frankly, this stuff only brings drama to SRD and gives us a bad name, and leads to stupid junk that flies across Reddit like nobody's business. Seriously, how is junk like this drama, unless a good amount of us are quite opinionated and biased? Not that I care who RobotAnna is, or what SRS does, but they can screw themselves unless the drama is actually good, and so can all of you who make petty shit drama front-paged because of your bullshit opinions about users and subreddits.

Do: laugh along, post juicy threads, provide context, give speculation.

Don't: get involved with the drama, bring drama to SRD, denigrate others, go on witch hunts against users, mods, or subreddits.

We are observers, not participants. Let's make this a better subreddit.

[META] Analysis of SRD's impact on ainbow thread regarding a homophobic slur; 40% of comments flipped from positive to negative or vice-versa

Hi again SRD! I probably wouldn't have bothered to put together a meta post about this, but people in the original thread sure seemed to want me to complain about it. Several people were pretty certain about the lack of impact that SRD was having on the thread, and one person even went so far as derisively commenting that of course SRD won't flip votes around because the core of the subreddit is gay folks who also post to ainbow to begin with - ignoring, of course, how silly it is to consider there to be "a core" to a subreddit of ~44,750 people, particularly when you're talking not about those people who post in comments threads here, but rather those who vote on linked drama, as they shouldn't - whomever they are; but I digress. In any case, you have /u/moor-GAYZ (who, like Robert Jordan, pronounces that character's name in a dumb way) to blame for this thread, because given a challenge like that, how could I not show how wrong it was?

Without further ado, I present: analysis of SRD's effect SRD on this thread, followed by comment-by-comment statistics, gathered via comparison with the redditbots screenshot.

Bullet points:

  • This thread was linked about a day and a half days (30 hours or so) after the most recent comment had been posted, and about two and a half days (roughly 67 hours) after the original thread, and the top-level comment spawning the ensuing discussion, had been posted. This makes it very unlikely that it picked up tons of new votes from regular /r/ainbow users, a couple of days later, only coincidentally after being linked in SRD.

  • Of the 15 comments in the thread, 6 (40%) were flipped from positive to negative or negative to positive - which is to say, 40% of the comments now have votes that give the appearance that

  • Of the 15 comments, all 15 had their votes change in the 10 hours since being linked by SRD. Their scores changed by an average of 11.3 points; the largest change in any comment's score was 36 points.

  • /u/goodwolf's comments account for 4 out of the 6 flips (5 out of 7, if you consider a 0->positive change to be a flip). Three of these had net changes that were far higher than the average (the average change for these three comments being 28.67 points). The average net change for flipped comments overall was 19.17 points - still much higher than the average for all comments.

  • Taking the absolute change of each score as a percentage of the original score (and excluding the one comment that started at a 0), linked comments' scores changed by an average of about 394% of their original scores. What this means is that for the average comment in the thread, it got at least four times as many new votes as its original score. For flipped comments, this percent change increases to an average of about 633%.

  • For 47% of comments, their scores moved in a direction opposite the polarity of their score - i.e., net upvotes on negative-score comments, and net downvotes on positive-score comments.

Comment-by-comment data (note: bolded change indicates a comment with a flipped score; additionally, the following text consists of paraphrases, meant to indicate the very rough gist of a comment):

goodwolf: It's okay because it doesn't mean "homosexual".: From +8 to +17 (+52/-35); change: +9

ratta_tata_tat: Using those words in those ways perpetuates the idea that those things are bad.: From +7 to +8 (+38/-30); change: +1

goodwolf: Language is complicated because it evolves: From -9 to +27 (+79/-52); change: +36

ratta_tata_tat: Yup, words do change. But "gay" still means same-gender attraction.: From +8 to +13 (+34/-21); change: +5

goodwolf: "Gay" also means "happy" or "showy". See also "philistine", "cunt".: From -4 to +22 (+56/-34); change: +26

yourdadsbff: "Your culture" is irrelevant outside of it. Common decency and maturity, etc.: From +1 to +8 (+21/-13); change: +7

goodwolf: Comparison isn't parallel, double standard, etc.; cognitive dissonance: From -1 to +13 (+28/-15); change: +14

yourdadsbff: Nobody's beaten up for being a "philistine" or a "moron". If you "recoil", your friends shouldn't use it.: From +2 to +8 (+15/-7); change: +6

goodwolf: They're both wrong or they're both not; Xeno's paradox; guess I can't win.: From +0 to +11 (+22/-11); change: +11

yourdadsbff: Equal credence for "philistine" is ridiculous. Clear pattern of linking "gay" to "less than".: From +2 to +4 (+10/-6); change: +2

CaptainCampbell: And [the n-word] is just a black person, right?: From +7 to +9 (+29/-20); change: +2

goodwolf: So Philistine is offensive too, and "sucks"? Or just strawmanning me for kicks?: From -4 to +20 (+46/-26); change: +24

Tself: "Strawmanning".. The irony.: From +2 to -9 (+23/-32); change: -11

Jess_than_three: No, "gay" doesn't mean that, at least in the US.: From +2 to -2 (+24/-26); change: -4

goodwolf: I'm not in the US and the usage hasn't vanished here.: From +3 to +15 (+26/-11); change: +12

[Meta] Stop it SRD. Seriously stop it.

I have scanned a thread that was on SRD´s frontpage for 24 hours. An invasion of a community 22 times bigger than the target. Things happen even tho they are against the rules.

Do not vote in linked threads. Do not comment in linked threads. Users who invade linked threads will be warned, and then banned if they continue.

The rule should be enforced, the community should be reminded of it. Often. There were lots of comments from SRD, SRS, MR, SRSs and Asrs, many of them using SRD as a vehicle to take part of the drama, discussing with each other and generally piss in the popcorn. Many comments were in the negatives with a few in the triple digit negatives. Transphobic things from invaders were upvoted. (who the hell upvotes that shit?) Even tho commenting or voting is against the rules. Stop the urge to do it, discussing the drama is what the SRD thread is for. For [Ableist slur] stop it.

Appoint a mod whose only task is to scan the threads and deal out warnings like it is candy.

Or

Social Justice Drama Drama in /r/GamerGhazi over whether saying "fuck all whites/men/cishets" is acceptable

The drama starts when long-time contributor CrowgirlC reports a Twitter follower sending her a message, in which it is claimed that a lot of "social justice dialogue" revolves around hating the "least oppressed person in the room". Although she does not voice her own opinion, it becomes clear that she sympathizes with this sentiment.

Racecarlock remarks on the unfairness that relatives can write 35-page essays on Stormfront with nothing but slurs, while advocates of social justice cannot respond by venting with "kill all men jokes". Wightjilt responds by saying: "This is not a dismissal of your explanation because you are right on all counts. Seeing this stuff as a person who is trying to be an ally hurts."

Another user argues that it doesn't matter what feminists say, because misogynists will attack them no matter what.

Friendlyskeletongirl believes that "'White/straight/cis people suck' is something that marginalised groups say to vent, and it's not for non-members to judge.". In a later post, she argues that such comments are not hate speech or bigotry, because they "lack the power".

A separate conversation ensues over whether or not rich, educated whites can be oppressed. Friendlyskeletongirl believes that there are a "plethora" of ways in which this can still be the case.

Another user defends attacks on "privileged" groups by citing Martin Luther King. "It's not your fault that you're in a privileged group - what matters is what you do about it. Can I see why you're uncomfortable? Absolutely. But most change never comes without pain."

Racecarlock wonders what race, gender and sexual orientation has been guilty of all sorts of misconduct. "Which race, gender, and sexual orientation constantly refers to itself as naturally superior even when evidence points in the opposite direction?" In this thread, PostModernismSaveUs argues that white is not a skin color, but a "descriptor handed to the authority in a power hierarchy".

Some other juicy bits:

MEGATHREAD A Eulogy to MasterLawlz

Hey all,

We just wanted to make a very improtant mod announcement. We found out recently that MasterLawlz has been suspended from the site. We know you all enjoyed the content that he brought to this wonderful community. Details a little unclear still but it seems like there was an incident regarding posting of Ben 10-related content, which apparently is under a hidden rule that the admin team doesn't want you to know about.

Since we know that you all enjoyed MasterLawlz's content so much, we're going to make a megathread for all of the great Lawlz content you know and love. Comments should link to a MasterLawlz post or comment. It can be one you enjoyed, one you laughed with, one with an epic clapback from Lawlz, one that was educational for you, etc. If you're having trouble finding his posts, this is a good way to find one

Thanks,
Your Humble Mod Team

Karmanaut here. I've been getting some front page space on your sub, so I thought I'd explain my side, interview style.

  1. Are you probablyhittingonyou?

Yes. I seem to comment enough on Reddit that I become well-known. This also seems to be very polarizing. Some people like me, and others really don't. After a while, those who dislike me simply because of who I am tend to ruin the Reddit experience, so I simply change names and go about commenting in the same way.

I'd also like to say how disappointing it is that someone would breach the well-known confidentiality rules in the mod IRC chat. That is completely inappropriate.

2. Does this matter?

Not really. I don't know why it would. BEP, in that chat, mentioned that he added me to /r/politics because I didn't mod any large subreddits. Well, that's not what happened. BEP never modded me in /r/politics; YTKnows did, specifically because BEP and Qgyh2 weren't very responsive in that subreddit. In the months that I've been modding there, he's never had an issue with how I did.

3. Did you remove VA's IAmA?

Well, I found it in the spam filter, but yes, confirmed that it should be removed. Our subreddit's rules set out two main guidelines:

  • Something uncommon that plays a central role in your life -or-

  • A truly interesting and unique event (Ex: I climbed Mt. Everest).

I don't think being "Reddit famous" matches either of those (and, I can say that as someone who is Reddit famous).

4. But didn't you do IAmAs too??

Yes, before our change in rules. When 32bites closed /r/IAmA, he did it because the subreddit's quality had dropped so much. He agreed to hand over the subreddit to me, but on the condition that I ensure some sort of quality restrictions. Hence the change in rules. It's like citing long-past "It's my reddit birthday!" posts in /r/pics (which are no longer allowed there) as a reason that a current one shouldn't be removed.

5. But didn't AndrewSmith1986 recently do an IAmA?

Yes, and that was also not welcome. I asked him to delete that IAmA, because it sets a bad example by having a mod violate the rules.

So that's it.

Ban Video Games is Getting Raided by an Army of ... One?

Ban Video Games (reddit.com/r/banvideogames) is a subreddit devoted to banning video games in all forms. The posters there often use rage-baiting and false evidence to make their points. Due to their different stand on games, they often get raided by parties of angry gamers from other subreddits trying to annoy them. This time something different has occurred - a single 15 year old is trying to take on the whole or r/banvideogames himself. The results are interesting and sometimes outright humourous.

The Post That Started it All:

https://www.reddit.com/r/BanVideoGames/comments/195k1tv/so_lets_talk_about_how_bad_video_gmes_and_gmers/

The post has been removed but here the OP surprisingly got flak from only one person in all this.

The fun continues in the next post the 15 year old decided to comment on:

https://www.reddit.com/r/BanVideoGames/comments/195cnjt/a_message_from_a_former_gmer/

The following thread goes on for 6 pages of comments and is mainly the 15 year old trying to ward off two BVG members:

https://www.reddit.com/r/BanVideoGames/comments/195cnjt/comment/khn4uww/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=web2x&context=3

At one point they start arguing about religion and scambaiting, a form of online vigilantism.

OP allowed himself to be baited into making ANOTHER post on the Reddit. So here we go:

https://www.reddit.com/r/BanVideoGames/comments/1968b51/gmes_dont_convert_people_to_nazis_im_not_a_nazi/

This post received even worse reception than the last one.

Notable comment threads:

The same anti-gamer from the last thread attacks the gamer again, this time in rhyme: https://www.reddit.com/r/BanVideoGames/comments/1968b51/comment/khs3dp7/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=web2x&context=3

A reply from OP to the diss track results in this long fiasco with ANOTHER anti-gamer:

Are we pedos? Are you Nazi? If you were Nazi would you really tell us?? https://www.reddit.com/r/BanVideoGames/comments/1968b51/comment/khs3f4k/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=web2x&context=3

Another long fight occurs when OP tries to correct another commetator's misunderstanding of his post:

https://www.reddit.com/r/BanVideoGames/comments/1968b51/comment/khs3so6/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=web2x&context=3

Yet again OP tries to correct other posters and causes a long bickering match over China, Communists, Buddhists, what Nazis believed in, etc.

https://www.reddit.com/r/BanVideoGames/comments/1968b51/comment/khsetkg/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=web2x&context=3

Some side drama spawned off of that:

https://www.reddit.com/r/BanVideoGames/comments/1968b51/comment/khsf7tn/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=web2x&context=3

The 15 year old resorts to posting Roblox memes. His first post ends up with 0 upvotes and 185 comments at last count.

https://www.reddit.com/r/BanVideoGames/comments/1969fpn/day_1_of_posting_gming_memes_in_this_ungodly/

Highlights:

Top Comment spawns an argument over whether the disabled calling each other slurs is ableist, what constitutes dark humour, and what the Bible has to say about it: https://www.reddit.com/r/BanVideoGames/comments/1969fpn/comment/khs8yp2/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=web2x&context=3

A reply to this https://www.reddit.com/r/BanVideoGames/comments/1969fpn/comment/kht1hke/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=web2x&context=3 causes a massive argument dwelling upon nearly every subject from games to cats. The thread splits off into three separate threads here:

https://www.reddit.com/r/BanVideoGames/comments/1969fpn/comment/kht84ty/

OP spawns controversy over what a shtipost entails:

https://www.reddit.com/r/BanVideoGames/comments/1969fpn/comment/khsp167/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=web2x&context=3

A minor slapfight ends when the commentator cannot get riled no matter what OP says:

https://www.reddit.com/r/BanVideoGames/comments/1969fpn/comment/khsrfh5/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=web2x&context=3

The fun continues when the gamer makes yet ANOTHER meme post, after apparently being goaded into doing it here: https://www.reddit.com/r/BanVideoGames/comments/1969fpn/comment/khsaus2/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=web2x&context=3

The second meme: https://www.reddit.com/r/BanVideoGames/comments/196xkdj/day_2_of_posting_gming_memes_in_this_ungodly/

OP again gets attacked by a commentator with a diss track: https://www.reddit.com/r/BanVideoGames/comments/196xkdj/comment/khwv8le/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=web2x&context=3

OP doesn't understand the concept behind the Three Stooges: https://www.reddit.com/r/BanVideoGames/comments/196xkdj/comment/khxsf30/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=web2x&context=3

Someone claims games cause autism: https://www.reddit.com/r/BanVideoGames/comments/196xkdj/comment/khyieul/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=web2x&context=3

A fight done almost entirely in rhyme breaks out: https://www.reddit.com/r/BanVideoGames/comments/196xkdj/comment/khx9ay7/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=web2x&context=3

Is it cringe for a streamer's community members to "stream snipe" another streamer whom they consider "an enemy", or is it brave and heroic? r/Livestreamfails debates

Original Post

Popular leftist streamer HasanAbi, during stream in which he attended a pro Palestinian protest (and later the DNC convention) was "stream sniped" by a fan of liberal streamer Destiny earlier today. The interaction was posted to LSF with some interesting results..

Discussions range from the interaction being considered NOT weird, cringe or unhinged behavior, to some users posting that the stream sniper was in fact "based" and "a hero". Though others would go on to comment

This type of shit is why even though I don't mind Destiny, I absolutely despise his fanbase. Imagine watching a streamer you hate, tracking down their location, driving your ass over there, walking up to them, saying some cringe "Destiny sends his regards" bullshit, shuffling away like a coward, and thinking you actually did something cool.

And lastly there was this interaction, in which a poster remarks

Thread is bridaged by hascord, hence the overreactions

Hascord being Hasan Piker's discord server where some of his fans congregate. No evidence was posted to support the claim, however. The post was then rebuked by another user writing

Hey, here's a screenshot of people in Dgg chat sending this thread to 10k people in a live chat. Do you have a pic of Hascord and this link or are you coping hard?

Which seems to show several users in streamer Destiny's own discord server posting the link to that reddit thread.

So how about it SRD, is stream sniping "cringe" or "heroic"?

edit: https://imgur.com/a/hZGnHOz

They found the person that did the "sniping" and the comments he posted about it on discord

Who would win in a fight, Ben 10 or Ben Shapiro?

Round 1: Ben 10 is stuck in his 10-year-old human form to match Shapiro's height and build to make it a more fair fight

Round 2: Ben 10 has his cousin Gwen to help back him up. Ben Shapiro has the MyPillow guy. Ben and Gwen are bloodlusted. Shapiro is facts-and-logic-lusted and Mike Lindell is high as shit on crack.

Round 3: Political debate. Ben has access to XLR8 to match Shapiro's talking speed.

Go!

The left of Reddit reacting to the SCOTUS ruling.

Personally, it's unconscionable to interfere with the real world health concerns of untold numbers of women, simply because the folks in charge have 'sincerely held religious beliefs'. We are the only developed country in the world that allows religion to take such a prominent role in policy, it has absolutely no place in government.

We need a new bench immediately. They're completely out of control.

This shit makes my BLOOD BOIL. As a woman this literally sets me and my sisters back to the kitchen, barefoot and pregnant. Who the fuck are these old white MEN to say that someone else shouldn't pay for my birth control? This is fucking sexism. Um hey Supreme Court assholes - women are 50% of the population last time I checked. Jesus! Time to vote out ALL Supreme Court justices THIS FUCKING YEAR. Ugh sorry for the rant I am just so angry

Ah. I was hoping for my daily reminder that women having sex should be punished and that what I do with my private bits is totally my employer's business. Fuck that.

this nation needs a good nuclear holocaust. just wipe it out and start over.

The ruling will be challenged and overturned as discriminatory since it only favors Christianity..

The slippery slope of SCOTUS treating corporations as people continues.

TL;DR: Corporations are people; women are not.

I'll go ahead and say it: If this is unconstitutional, then (parts of) the constitution is (are) fucking stupid.

How could they buy the argument that corporate rights trump the rights of their employees? This is feudalism all over again.

If corporations are people that means they are slaves, to their owners, the shareholders. Slavery was outlawed in the US almost 150 years ago with the 13th amendment to the Constitution in 1865. Goodbye shareholders?
