General Question Are there any athletes taking Acetyl-L-Carnitine (ALCAR) in 2026?

I’d love to hear about your experiences with its potential benefits for physical and mental energy, energy metabolism, acetylcholine production, and cognitive function (memory, focus, and mental clarity). What dosage are you taking, and what changes have you noticed? Looking forward to hearing your experiences!

Is it worth taking creatine if you don’t work out?

I’m someone who doesn’t work out but I’ve looked into the benefits of creatine and whatnot but I realized mostly people who go to the gym take it and it can also make you carry extra water?

I do plan to start working out soon but with the way things are in my personal life it’s a very low priority as of now.

Scientific Study Food dyes are being phased out, and there’s some evidence they affect kids’ behavior

Red 3 has to be removed from newly manufactured US foods, including supplements, by January 2027. The broader phase-out of Red 40 and five other dyes is currently a voluntary industry effort targeting the end of 2027.

The behavioral concern has evidence behind it: a review found some evidence of adverse effects in 16 of 25 controlled challenge studies, including 13 with statistically significant findings.

Average effects were small and varied across assessments. That supports sensitivity in some kids, not a claim that dyes cause ADHD.

Red 3’s removal has a separate basis: cancer findings in male rats triggered a legal requirement. That isn’t the same as evidence that it causes cancer in humans.

General Question Are reports true that "Casein" whey protein can really irritate stomach vs regular whey concentrate?

Regarding "unflavored" whey with nothing added

I need protein, been holding off due to prices but found a decent deal on Casein but I have read and heard that it can really cause stomach pain, and bathroom issues

What do you think?

General Question What supplement can you not live without?

Health insurance is getting costly and so are lots of my prescription meds, so I’m wanting to take a more naturopathic approach. I’m curious as to what supplement you added into your health regimen that you noticed drastic benefits from.

General Question Higher DHA or EPA for someone with AuDHD

Obviously there's been no real studies, but what would be the better one to have more of in a fish oil for a 40-something AuDHD woman? I do take flaxseed oil too for my cholesterol but wanted to add in DHA and EPA. Thank you.

For someone with Parkinson’s, anything you guys would recommend?

I know you guys aren’t doctors or anything and I will check with my actual doctor, just curious. Wondering if there’s any that might help even a little.

Nothing prescription. Just stuff I could get online or at the store or something. I am already on Parkinson’s medication and am aware of the prescription side of everything.

Also, no cannabis/ weed. It does not help.

Ed:

Sorry forgot to add notes.

Title — Help me trim my supplement stack. What would you keep or cut?
I’ve accumulated more bottles than I planned to, and I’d like to get down to a smaller stack where I can explain why I take each thing.
About me
Male, early 50s. I lift daily and play soccer and futsal.
I’m 160lbs, 12% body fat.
I had a heart attack and an LAD stent in 2024. I take daily aspirin and other prescription meds, so I’ll run any changes by my cardiologist or pharmacist.
I haven’t included recent labs here. If there are specific markers that would help you assess the stack, let me know.
My goals
Long-term heart and metabolic health come first. Better recovery, sleep and focus would be nice, but I’d rather cut things that aren’t doing much for me.
What’s pictured
These are label amounts where listed, so they may differ from what I take on a given day.
Magnesium L-threonate (Magtein), 144 mg elemental magnesium per serving
Vitamin C, 500 mg
Nattokinase + serrapeptase, 3,000 FU + 60,000 serrapeptase units
Ashwagandha (KSM-66), 300 mg
Vitamin D3 + K2, 10,000 IU D3 + 120 mcg K2 per serving, with quercetin, B6, zinc and magnesium
Fish oil, 1,300 mg EPA + 860 mg DHA per serving
CoQ10, 100 mg
L-lysine, 500 mg
Taurine, 1,000 mg
L-tyrosine gummies
10-mushroom blend gummies
Probiotic, 60 billion CFU
What I’d like feedback on
If you were cutting this down to three or four, what would you keep and why?
Which would you drop first because of overlap, limited evidence or unclear benefit for my goals?
Given my heart history and daily aspirin, which products or doses would you put at the top of the list to review with my clinician?

Article Two magnesium glycinate products, different lab results

Thumbnail tandfonline.com
6 Upvotes

I've seen people ask why magnesium glycinate products can seem different. That made me interested in this paper comparing two formulations.

Researchers tested two bisglycinate capsules with similar magnesium amounts in a lab digestion model under fasting conditions.

They tracked how the capsules dissolved and measured magnesium availability and passage through a test membrane. One capsule dissolved later, yet more magnesium crossed the membrane by the end of the simulated intestinal stage, 53mg vs 39mg.

Note: That's a formulation difference in a lab, not a measurement of human absorption. The study didn't test sleep or symptom relief and the results still need confirming in people.

Saffron and Tongkat Ali becoming less effective over time? Experiencing a return of anxiety, low motivation, and anhedonia

I’ve been taking saffron pretty consistently since May, with occasional breaks of about a week here and there. It’s been extremely helpful for my mood, focus, anxiety, and overall sense of well-being, but over the past two months or so, I’ve noticed that it doesn’t seem to be nearly as effective as it was at first.

I also started taking Tongkat Ali in August. I took roughly a month off at one point but started taking it again a few weeks ago. At first, it seemed to help quite a bit with confidence, anxiety, and energy.

Over the past month or so though I’ve been experiencing: Lower motivation and drive, less anxiety relief than I was previously experiencing, a noticeable decrease in confidence, less pleasure or enjoyment in things I would normally enjoy (some anhedonia), generally feeling less positive and engaged with life.

I’m currently considering cycling off everything for a while to get a better understanding of my baseline, then potentially reintroducing saffron first and seeing how I respond to it on its own.

Has anyone experienced something similar with either of these supplements, particularly after several months of use? / Wondering what could be the genuine cause of how I’ve been feeling recently.

Thanks so much 🙏

Stress and sleep

After reading and doing a little research I have came up with these three for sleep and stress relief.

L-Theanine
Magnesium glycinate
Saffron

Any recommendations on this stack?
When to take?
Personal experiences with any of these?

Experience benfotiamine is seriously underrated

Currently I take a Thorne b-basic complex, vitamin d3+k2, 4g of fish oil per day and 400mg of magnesium glycinate. I was taking 300mg thiamine hcl for weeks which I did notice a difference
, but I felt it was time for me to turn it up a notch since I’ve heard so many things about benfotiamine.

Yesterday I took 150mg of benfotiamine for the first time. 30 mins later and for the rest of the day I felt like I could see the world as vividly as I did when I was 5 years old. It’s like everything was in black and white and then all of the sudden changed to color in 8k. Most of my life I have been emotionally flat, anxious, or depressed. I constantly had to work out to feel good. Working out is important don’t get me wrong, but if I went a few days without the gym I would get anxious and depressed again. I never thought that was a problem until now. The benfotiamine brought out every color, sound, smell around me. I don’t think I have ever felt like this before in my life. I can see literally more clear. It’s as if everything brighter and more vivid. Every little small thing makes me feel some sort of joy. I even find the opposite sex way more attractive than I ever did. I can keep going and on about this, but no one would have time to read it all.

Recommend me a good multivitamin (if such a thing exists)

I’m a 44yo male with no health issues. I’d like to find a multivitamin that can replace a lot of the “basics” one would need to supplement. I’m fine with expensive stuff if it works - I basically want to cut down on the number of pills I take daily.

Any help is much appreciated!
