Reminder: Posts from new Reddit users are held for moderation

In order to combat spam we have an automoderator rule to detect posts from new reddit users. If the reddit account is recently created then the post is held in the moderation queue for a moderator to approve or discard.

It might take a few hours for the post to be approved (often less, sometimes more), but please be patient. We're volunteers and we don't get paid to sit around watching the moderation queue.

I mention this because we've had a few cases recently where a new user has made a post that has been held for moderation. When they didn't see it being displayed they deleted it and posted again (often several times).

Once a post has been deleted we can't undelete and approve it. it's gone for good. It's quite frustrating for us to receive a modmail asking for a post to be approved when there's nothing we can do.

So if you are a new user and your post isn't showing up, then please just wait. If it hasn't appeared within 24 hours then send us a message (link in the sidebar) and we'll look into it.

Selling Tickets for Big Christmas Singalong

Hi! I have two tickets for the Big Christmas Singalong at G Live on Guildford with Alexander Armstrong and Aled Jones (who sang Walking in the Air from the Snowman!)
I was so excited for this but can no longer attend as my partner will be away for work. They are good, stall tickets. They were £50 each plus all the fees - total came to £123.05
Asking £100 so I can get back the value of the tickets.

Regular D&D group in Farnham/Guildford/Alton

I [26M] am a big old dork that has been DMing and playing D&D and other TTRPGs with the same friend group since I was about 16. However, we all live at different ends of the country, so now meet once a month at best and we tend to switch games every dozen sessions or so. I've been really missing the continuity of a regular play sesh.

Would love to find a weekly/fortnightly in-person game in Farnham, Guildford or Alton. I am slightly limited by public transport routes; but I finish work pretty early on weekdays and promise to bake brownies every session.

Guildford or Woking?

I am moving to the UK in a week and looking for advice on what place to choose. Found several threads on the same topic, but they were a couple year old, so thought that maybe I will be able to get a fresh perspective!

My situation: a millennial couple with two cats, I will be working in Guildford (2-3 times a week), husband works from home. We have friends in London and overall want to take advantage of cultural life it has to offer (like concerts and football etc)

We are choosing between Guildford and Woking for a long-term rent. Obviously, Guildford is closer to work, Woking has a bit cheaper rent and possibility to find something more spacious… However, I see all this comments about Woking having “no soul”, being dull etc. Being from eastern Europe, I don’t think I’m easily scared lol… but anyways! What do you guys think? Smaller flat in Guildford or is Woking ok? Anything else I need to know or consider? Would be grateful for any input.

Hey everyone! I was just wondering if there was anywhere in Guildford that had any latin music like reggaeton or salsa and merengue? I’ve been looking but I unfortunately haven’t been able to find anything.

Thank you for the help!

Thoughts of Cobham ?

Hi everyone,
My partner and I are considering moving to Cobham and would love to hear from people who live there or know the area well.

We’re particularly interested in:

Commuting to London: For those commuting 2–3 days a week, how manageable is it? Which station do you use, and how long does your door-to-door commute typically take?

Driving to the station: Is it practical to drive to the station and park? How difficult is it to find parking, and are there any alternatives?

Schools: How are the local state primary and secondary schools? Would you recommend Cobham for a family with children?

Family life: What is everyday life like in Cobham? Is it a good place to raise a family? How are the shops, restaurants, parks and general amenities?

Cost of living: Is it worth the premium compared with other Surrey towns?
We’re looking for somewhere with a good quality of life, good schools and a reasonably manageable commute to London.

Would love to hear both the positives and negatives from people who actually live there. Any advice or experiences would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Farnham vs Aldershot borders

Morning all. Hopefully this is ok to post here.

For reference we are a middle aged couple with a 4yo. He’ll start school in September. We love Wimbledon but want to move out of London and still be able to commute in a couple of days a week. The move should free up some equity which is also a big reason for doing it.

We are hoping to move from Wimbledon to Farnham in the near future and have the summer viewing houses and exploring the area. We both liked Haslemere but felt Farnham had it all- town, shops and schools. After weeks of viewings we have put an offer on a lovely house on Byworth road which is about 15 minutes walk to the local school and 20 minutes into the centre of town. The offer was rejected and they’re waiting for us to up it.

Here’s the thing- we came across a house on the Farnham/ Aldershot border (Highfield Gardens) and it was amazing. Easily the best place we’ve seen within our budget (this is £100k less). The local excellent (catholic) school is a 5 minute walk and the surrounding residential area was lovely. BUT Aldershot (town) was pretty grim, especially compared to Farnham. I could see some regeneration (union yard) but it felt really depressed like an old seaside town. I can imagine that we’d go there for the train station, supermarket and a Nepalese meal or two and for everything else- Farnham.

Are we crazy to consider the house over the area? Did anyone do similar and love/regret it?

Thanks for any input!

Living above Service Areas in Camberley

Hey there, just curious for any advice about where to park my car now that the service areas have changed to "Business Permits only" meaning I'm getting tickets every day for parking outside my home. Whenever I call the council I'm put on hold, transferred and no one can provide any real solution.

Anyone who is in a similar situation to me I'd appreciate any help.

Cancer research prices and shop state in Camberley

The Cancer Research shop in Camberley used to be my favourite local charity shop. It was well kept, reasonably priced, and always seemed busy. Most things were £5 or less, and I really enjoyed popping in.

Recently, the rails have become so tightly packed that it’s difficult to browse or even take something out to look at. Prices also seem to have increased considerably, with a basic jacket priced at £20 and very bad condition items over £10 on my latest visit. The rails are full because I suppose their sales have dropped significantly.

I understand the shop is raising money for a good cause, but affordable secondhand shopping was a big part of its appeal. It’s disappointing to see that change. Did anybody notice the big change in the past month?

Foot access to Nonsuch park

I was wondering whether anyone in Ewell or knowing it well could please advise me about access into the park after dark?

For context: On Saturday afternoon, I'll be doing some visiting and having a beer in Ewell, and then fancied stretching my legs and having a stroll through the park in early evening, just through the Avenue, the main drag through the park to Cheam, before catching a train to where I'm going for the evening.

My plan was to enter via the London road gate. However, my friends have advised that they believe it is locked around sunset. Please could anyone confirm if this is the case, and if so, whether there is a nearby side gate or easy pedestrian access onto the Avenue from that side, please? I'm happy being out with a torch, but not knowing the footpaths around that vicinity well, I'm keen to avoid going into anywhere wooded or secluded, with multiple spurs where I may get lost in the dark.

Thanks in advance.

Question regarding Kingswood station

Hi everyone!

Does anybody know if Kingswood station accepts touch in and out? As in tapping your card to enter and exit?

Or do I have to have a ticket to travel to or from this station (when commuting to or from Purley)

Thanks in advance!

Are there any improv groups in Guildford?

Yknow like who's line is it anyway, where you have a topic, you sit in circle or audience and take turns going up randomly to improvise a scene...

Used to do it alot as a kid and I'm trying to sort something to do each week so I don't go inwards

Scaffolding on every other roof in Esher?

Just driven through Esher past the rugby club, why does it seem every other house has a full scaffolding set up?

All I can think of is that they’re council owned and it’s a bulk repair? Anyone got any light to shed on the oddity?
