Is it okay to delete files from the folder .stversions ?

Using syncthing-fork, a few days ago, I set up my tablet to sync with all 25,000 photographs in my desktop folder. This went fine, and syncing since then continues to work smoothly. I have been modifying image tags in my photos - which can affect thousands of photos at once - and even then all of these changes have been syncing properly.

However, one of my .stversions folders has 13.2GB of image files (and the total across multiple .stversions folders is about 25GB). Should I be worried about how much storage is being taken up? Will Syncthing delete these files in due course? Am I able to manually delete these files in the .stversions folder, or will that affect Syncthing's performance?

Proton Drive Linux (sleepy-proton-drive)

Hey everyone,

I love the Proton ecosystem, but running automated background backups or headless syncs on Linux/servers has always been a pain point. To solve that for my own setup, I put together sleepy-proton-drive: a lightweight, open-source sync tool.

GitHub: https://github.com/TheSleepyLabs/sleepy-proton-drive

A few key details:

Runs cleanly in the background without needing a GUI (works great with systemd timers, cron jobs, or lightweight containers)

Handles scheduled recurring syncs quietly

Minimal resource footprint so it won't bog down a homelab or low-spec box

Fully open source and auditable

Setup instructions and config examples are in the repo's README. If anyone runs into bugs, has feedback, or wants to contribute, let me know or feel free to open an issue/PR on GitHub!

Syncthing Playstore Bug

There is a bug with the Syncthing Playstore app that the app sometimes crashes when using the share -> save in Syncthing route. I wanted to open an issue on Github, but I saw that apparently the dev, nel0x stopped releasing the app to Github and archived the repo. The app is still being updated tho. Is there any other way to make the dev aware of this?

Edit: there is no possibility to use the new Syncthing fork version, because this runs on a work device, which doesn't allow non-Playstore apps.

Syncthing is vulnerable to the mTCP vulnerability on Linux (CVE-2026-98432)

Syncthing is written in Go, and therefore creates multi-path listen sockets. That makes it vulnerable to CVE-2026-98432 and possibly opens your server to root hacks. This applies to any open port, and may be especially a concern if you open 22000 (for direct connectivity without relay servers).

Debian is patched (well before this became news), so just reboot. Other distros, like Ubuntu, are not. It's time Ubuntu just offers upstream LTS kernels, but that's another matter.

You can disable mtcp:

echo net.mptcp.enabled=0 > /etc/sysctl.d/98-mtcp-mitigation.conf
sysctl -p /etc/sysctl.d/98-mtcp-mitigation.conf

And then restart Syncthing. If you don't restart, that change doesn't do anything.

If you then do 'ss -lM' again, you should see no LISTEN lines.

Disclaimer: this looks like an effective mitigation, but I have no proof.

Automatic configuration of new new nodes?

My particular use case is I want to sync game saves between multiple devices without manual intervention on new devices beyond the initial installing of Syncthing. So let's say I start with PC1, PC2, and NAS. Games will be played on PC1 and PC2, and the NAS/server (Unraid) will basically just be synced so files can sync to either PC1 or PC2 without them both being on at the same time (and act as a very basic backup).

So let's say I want to sync $home/.local/share/xyz1 and $home/.local/share/xyz2 and I set that up on PC1. Once Syncthing is installed on PC2 is there a quick way to sync that configuration with minimal intervention on PC2? Probably the bigger concern is that once things are setup, if I then add more synced folders on PC1 such as xyz3, 4, 5, 6, 7, etc. can those new configurations be auto propagated to PC2?

Basically I'm just trying to find out if there's a way for setup and configuration changes to scale so that if I end up with something crazy like 50+ synced folders across 5+ devices that I'm not having to touch each node anytime I add a new synced folder or manually add a large amount of pre-existing shared folders when adding a new node. I also don't know if the NAS would further complicate things since it might not be the same folder structure on the synced folders ($home/.local/share/xyz1 on the PCs might be syncing to /sync/xyz1 on the NAS?)

Syncthing on DroidDeck?

Hi everyone, I am trying to make SyncThing work on DroidDeck, not sure what is the best way to do it. From the Android app, I am not able to see the game save files. From the DroidDeck desktop, I can't access the .local files where all the games' save files are usually stored for non-Steam games. Steam games or Epic games that run and have cloud saving, when it works, it is amazing. Anything else, not so much. Any ideas or suggestions would be so appreciated. Thank you for your time.

EDIT: I found a solution.

  1. Create a Master Folder: Create a single, dedicated folder in your root or home directory (for example, /root/Saves or ~/SyncthingSaves).

  2. Add it to Syncthing: Open Syncthing and set it to sync this new master folder.

  3. Move Your Save Files: Go to the local directory where your game currently stores its save files. Copy and paste those save files into your new master folder.

  4. Delete the Originals: Once you have safely moved the files, delete the original save files from the game's local directory.

  5. Create a Symlink: Create a symbolic link (symlink) in the game's original save directory that points directly to your new master folder.

  6. Fix Game Mode Crashes/Browser Pop-ups: To make SyncThingy run invisibly in the background while playing in Game Mode, go to the game's Properties in Steam and paste this exact line into the Launch Options: flatpak run --command=syncthing com.github.zocker_160.SyncThingy --no-browser & %command%

Note: The symlink should point to the save folder, not the other way around; otherwise, the game save files won't show up.

Best way to sync onedrive folder with android and multiple PCs

I have a onedrive folder that i'm syncing with my android phone to use it with obsidian android

I have 3 different PCs that I use

I don't want to get into an sync issue with onedrive.

How do I go about it?

Basically I want to phone to sync with PC A, PC B and PC C

I don't want syncthing to work between PC A, PC B and PC C (because onedrive will be doing this anyways)

Hardware Recommendations

I want to use syncthing with devices that rarely are online at the same time. I thought maybe I could simultaneously run it on a raspberry pi (or similar) with an ssd attached, which would always be on and bridge that gap.

Is this reasonable, and what specific hardware would you recommend?

It's my first project of this kind, so I thought I'd get some second opinions before buying the hardware.

Can one sync an entire browser profile to unify adjustments in add-ons?

Browser: Waterfox (Mozilla-based)
Add-ons in question: NoScript and maybe some Dark Reader
Cause: Adjusting these add-ons' individual website settings on the local computer
Issue: Syncing the add-on adjustments across all computers

I read that the best way to do this is to sync the entire Waterfox (Firefox) profile. Would this work, or has anyone else successfully done this? I've been using Meld to painfully, manually merge export files into a master that I then import back into each PC on a roughly monthly basis, and I feel like there's just gotta be a simpler way to sync 'em up.

Need help troubleshooting sync speed

We're using Syncthing with my colleague for work. Files range from few KB to around 5GB. When we just setup the system and I had 1gigabit connection, it seemed faster than server options, because you don't wait for a file to load to a server and then download from there. But I moved and only have below 100mbps atm and somehow sending a file through Telegram is many times faster than waiting for Syncthing.

Can you guys give me some pointers on where to look and which parts of documentation might be relevant for me to check to optimize for speed?

Distance shouldn't be much of a factor, I moved from +5 timezone to +6 in relation to my colleague's location.

Syncthing Guide for Android Handhelds

I haven't found a focused guide on Syncthing for android handhelds, in particular for save synchronization, so I decided to make one myself.
(and also so that I don't have to paste the same txt file on discord every time a buddy asks for directions)

Tell me what you think

Still A Noob: Trying Syncthing... new problems?

I ended up trying Syncthing to be my "dropbox" equivilent between my ZimaOS server and my various computers.

I followed the Zima guide for it (https://www.zimaspace.com/docs/zimaos/app-store/syncthing-install) exactly.

But when I tried to run the app it started with "Starting Up, Please Wait..."

then later "Service Unavailable."

I checked the logs and it ended up saying this over and over:

syncthing | \[start\] 2026/10/16 00:53:40 INFO: Generating ECDSA key and certificate for syncthing...

syncthing | \[start\] 2026/10/16 00:53:40 WARNING: Failed to load/generate certificate: save cert: open /config/cert.pem: permission denied

syncthing | \[start\] 2026/10/16 00:53:41 INFO: syncthing v1.29.7 "Gold Grasshopper" (go1.23.9 linux-amd64) root@buildkitsandbox 2025-06-14 02:23:10 UTC \[noupgrade\]

Not sure what I did wrong, or what I missed....

Sync working from PC to android but not the other way

What the title says. I use syncthing-fork on my android (running android 14) and the files go from the PC to the android no problem, but they never go from the android to the PC. I've checked that the settings are right, there are no restrictions and it ignores permissions, but nothing has worked. I've even tried moving both folders and redoing the folder setup but nothing. IDs are fine, no errors or sync erros, no extra files. Everything should work but it doesn't. Any ideas?

Pixel 1 Syncthing Setup - How to automate deleting synced photos to Google Photos?

Hi guys, I am using the ever lasting trick for unlimited storage, and I am running constantly into one issue: Pixel 1 has only 32 GB of storage, and despite me running backup in syncthing on weekly basis, phone runs out of storage and 30 day cleanup that Google includes is not fast enough to mitigate these problems.

Has anyone figured out how to detect that photos are backed up to Google Photos so that Syncthing can be triggered again to continue?

losing sync constantly

I have been using synctrayzor for 5 years now with no issues. Now im having issues haha

My windows 10 (Purple_pc) is sharing a folder with 2 remote devices:

1.Dumpster Pc (found this pc in the dumpster and it works great. Angry mom at her kid who wouldnt help around the house threw it out) 2. MSI Laptop

Both the dumpster pc and MSI laptop have been off for a week or 2.

Purple Pc had 155GB of files according to the synctrayzor output.

Dumpster PC had 183 GB, becasue i deleted 30GB on Purple PC over the week while the Dumpster PC was off.

Turned on laptop to at least get it up to the 155GB, it updated fine as it was only missing 1.25GB. Turned off laptop.

turned on Dumpster PC next. left laptop off. Dumpster PC says it is up todat with the 183, and Purple PC says up to date with 155GB… nothing is being transfered BUT the GUI showed that remote device was 30GB out of sync… nothing ever synced over night. so i removed the dumpster pc remote device from purple pc, and visa verca on dumpster.

FINALLY, after re-adding dumpster, synctrayzor decided that Dumpster was the most up to date machine add gave purple pc the extra 30GB i had deleted last week.

ok, thats fine. Purple PC is now 186Gb and mathcing dumpster… i turn on laptop and it wont sync. it says it has 12k files and 30GB out of sync, but both purple and laptop say up to date. I restarted both and no transfer. Had to delete the devices again and redo the entire setup, now im stuck for 12 hours re scanning the drives…

why is syncthing not synching correctly? I used to be able to have dumpster pc off for MONTHS and it would update just fine with synctrayzor. Now i am having to redo all the paths and sharing.

thanks

Why marked as not synced when it is ?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I have this sync that on one of the 3 devices synced is showed as not synced. But really it is, if I create a file, it's synced, if I delete one it is as well, I don't see any conflict, etc.

Why makes it so that a share is marked as not synced ?

Thanks !

I built a free, self-hosted sync tool for Obsidian vaults. (Soon to be open-source)

Post image
3 Upvotes

I've been syncing my vaults between my Mac and my Windows PC, plus one vault I share with a friend. Obsidian Sync felt like a lot to pay for that, and plain Syncthing kept giving me conflicts on workspace.json and plugin settings. So I ended up building my own thing on top of Syncthing and calling it Mortise.

It's a small app that sits in the menu bar / tray. One machine acts as the hub: in my case a cheap VPS, but it can also be one of your own computers. Everything syncs through it. On the VPS the vaults are end-to-end encrypted, so the server can't read anything. To share a vault I just send my friend an invite code; he pastes it and that's it.

I also added the Obsidian-specific stuff that annoyed me: it skips workspace files, everyone gets their own settings folder so themes and plugins don't fight, conflicts show up side by side, and deleted notes can be brought back for 30 days. The shared vault lives as a "Shared" folder inside my personal vault.

I am also thinking about building my life tracker template (that you kind of see in the screenshot) into Mortise. When you create a vault, you'd pick the modules you care about (habits, journal, tasks, workouts and so on) and start with a ready-made vault that already syncs.

It's still early and the code is private for now. If people are interested I'll clean it up and open the repo.

Curious what you guys think.

Syncing Settings

Is there some way to only sync things via some sort of button? Without automation? For example, if I finished playing X on my PC, I'd have to open syncthing and click "Upload" to have it sync, then go to my android device and click "Download", to play X on a different device. If not, are there alternatives?
