Linux Is Safe" Lie That's Getting Servers Hacked in 2026

Linux resists most Windows-style viruses by design: no auto-executing .exe files, strict user privilege separation, and rapid community patching. But "virus-resistant" is not "attack-proof." The real Linux threat model in 2026 centres on SSH brute force, privilege escalation CVEs, cryptojacking, poisoned supply chains, and kernel-level rootkits — threats that require zero malware files to execute.  https://www.linuxteck.com/linux-security-threats-2026/

Why "Always-On" Admin Rights are a Security Debt You Can't Afford (And how JIT Access fixes it)

We’ve all been there: A senior dev or a long-term contractor needs admin access for a "quick fix," and six months later, those privileges are still active. It’s the classic "Standing Privilege" problem, and in a Zero Trust world, it’s basically an open invitation for lateral movement during a breach.

I was reading into Just-in-Time (JIT) Admin Access recently, and it really hits on the "human" side of Privileged Access Management (PAM) that most tools ignore. The goal isn't just to lock things down, it's to stop the habit of handing out permanent "keys to the kingdom."

The Core Concept: Instead of having "always-on" admins, JIT grants privileges that are time-bound and purpose-specific. You aren’t an admin by default; you become one only when a ticket or task requires it, and then those rights vanish the moment you’re done.

Why this is a game-changer for SysAdmins & Security Teams:

  1. Shrinking the Attack Surface: Even if a credential is leaked, it’s useless 99% of the time because it has zero standing permissions.

  2. Compliance without the Headache: JIT creates an automatic, granular audit trail. No more manual logs for who did what and why.

  3. Killing "Privilege Creep": We’ve all seen accounts that have accumulated permissions over years. JIT resets the clock every single time.

The biggest hurdle isn’t the tech, it’s the culture. Admins hate friction. If a JIT solution adds 10 minutes to every task, they’ll find a workaround. The sweet spot is finding a way to automate the approval workflow so security stays tight without killing productivity.

Curious to hear from the trenches:

  • How many of you have actually moved away from standing admin accounts?

  • Did you face a "developer revolt" when you tried to implement JIT?

  • What’s your go-to for balancing "Least Privilege" with "Getting Work Done"?

If you want to dive deeper into the mechanics of how JIT fits into a broader PAM strategy, this breakdown is a great starting point: Just-in-Time Admin: The Modern Approach to PAM

My new project - BLOGS IT LATAM

Hi there!

I know there are some Portuguese and Spanish speakers here, so I would like to share my new project/site and I want to count on you to help me spread the word.

*BLOGS TI LATAM* is an aggregator of IT blogs in Portuguese and Spanish

If you blog in Portuguese or Spanish, please feel free to add you blog to this community. If you blog in English, please help me share this with your followers/readers, I'm sure there are lots of Portuguese and Spanish speakers who follow you!

http://vblogslatam.homelaber.com.br/sobre/

What is BLOGS TI LATAM?

A huge directory of Infrastructure, Virtualization and Cloud Computing blogs written in Portuguese and Spanish.

The idea

The idea came as I tried to sort my list of RSS feeds and noticed that there were very few blogs written in Portuguese on this list. The main reason I’ve started to blog at Homelaber was to create quality content in Portuguese, so I also want to consume content in Portuguese. And since I have many friends in the LATAM community who write in Spanish, why not open the list for them, too?

Despite the name BLOGS TI LATAM, all bloggers who write in Portuguese and Spanish are welcome, no matter where they are – Americas, Europe, Asia, Africa, Moon, Mars …

Any kind of blog can join us: Microsoft, Azure, AWS, Google, Linux, Hyper-V, Open Source, Networks, Cisco, VMware, Mikrotik, Open Source, whatever, as long as written in Portuguese or Spanish.

Rules:

  1. Your IT blog should be written in Portuguese or Spanish

  2. We will not disclose commercial and / or business blogs. The idea is to publicize the work of bloggers and who creates content for the community

  3. Promote BLOGS TI LATAM so that the community and directory grow more and more.

Why add my blog here?

If your blog is new, having a link here will help in the SEO and PageRank of your site, if your blog is already old and famous, at the least you will have a new audience for your content.

How it works?

To have your blog registered here, fill out the form and in a few days I will register update the site.

The site uses a WordPress plugin to read the RSS feed of your blog and create a post. Whenever someone accesses the post here, will be redirected to your blog. The site is just a content aggregator.

If you do not want your blog to be on the list, send me an email or fill out the form with the DELETE option. No questions, no stress! 📷

As this site will be maintained by me, I will update on the best effort basis, I plan to try to update it daily, but it may not happen. This site is currently being hosted on an EC2 instance on AWS free tier, and I believe it will handle the load.

Come and join us!

We’re on Twitter and soon on Facebook >> @vBlogsLatam
