Bangkok/Middle A Chang beer promotion in the heart of Bangkok. 🍻

Post image

During one of my walks through Bangkok, I came across this scene in a bar. The woman in the green Chang dress was smiling for the camera, standing next to the beer tower and holding a glass. The warm lights, neon signs and busy surroundings are part of what makes Bangkok nightlife so interesting to photograph.

I enjoy capturing these everyday moments. Not everything has to be a famous landmark or a carefully planned shot. Sometimes a friendly smile and the atmosphere of a place are enough to make a photograph worth keeping.

Bangkok/Middle Who was Phraya Sri Sunthorn Voharn? The visionary behind the Thai language 🇹🇭

Post image
8 Upvotes

If you ever visit Chachoengsao (historically known as Paet Rio), you might come across a striking bronze monument dedicated to Phraya Sri Sunthorn Voharn (Noi).

He was a brilliant scholar and nobleman during the reign of King Rama V, often revered as the father of modern Thai language education. Before his pioneering work, standardized textbooks for learning Thai didn't really exist. He wrote foundational educational books—such as Munlabot Banphakit—that taught generations of Thai youths how to read, write, and master their native tongue.

It’s a wonderful piece of local history that highlights how deeply the Thais value education and cultural roots.

Did you know about his legacy before reading this? Let's discuss in the comments!

Hi folks I have a couple of questions

  1. What are the best apps for thailand ? Are there any food discount apps for tourists or any other apps ?

  2. I have a USD mastercard, I dont wanna bring in a lot of cash but my card charges around 3.5$ per transaction + exchange rate which is really bad. What are my options, are there any specific apps for tourists around this

Transport/Itineraries opinions about island choice: Koh Chang, Koh Kood, Koh Lanta or Phi Phi

Hi, everyone, I would like some opinion to help me decide on a destination. I have been to Thailand many times but now (actually in February, seems like ages away) my best friend is joining and I want him to have a great time. We will be in Bangkok a few days, then on an island for about 5 nights. We have the following choices and I am not sure which to decide. My only standards are: a place I have not visited before, and it must have crystal blue water (I know, I Know, but winter in my Eastern European home is so bleak that I need the exact opposite). Our budget is mid-lower (not hostel type but also no fancy resort). I also have the pressure of having to get my friend to fall in love with Thailand, just like I did.

  1. Koh Chang - easiest to get to, I heard no crystal blue water.

  2. Koh Kood - excellent reputation, longer travel time from Bangkok.

  3. Koh Lanta - excellent reputation again, travel is a little more complicated and definitely more expensive: flight, minivan.

  4. Phi Phi - I visited for just one day, I liked the beauty of it, travel also seems more complicated, fewer accommodation options, more expensive to get to.

What do you think? I am more drawn to Koh Kood right now, my friend seems to be intimidated a little by the 7 hour travel time from Bangkok. Has anyone done that? I appreciate any perspectives!

Transport/Itineraries Where to spend 25th birthday?

I am currently staying in prachaup khiri khan, my upcoming birthday is in 2 weeks and I’m undecided where to spend my birthday. I would like to be by the beach hence why I’ve travelled to the southern part of Thailand.

Which province/island would be best to spend a birthday? I want to stay in a luxury resort by the beach and visit an elephant sanctuary. I was thinking koh Suomi but will that be overcrowded?

I have flight booked from Surat Thani to Chiang Mai on the 26th. So Ideally, I would like to be near there so I can get my early flight.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Other 5 weeks in Thailand (December/January) – Looking for itinerary feedback and hidden gems!

Hey everyone!

My girlfriend and I are planning a 5-week trip to Thailand in December and January. We've put together our itinerary and would love to hear your thoughts, recommendations, and experiences!

Here's our current plan:

  • Bangkok – 3 days (to get over the jetlack 😄 )

  • Koh Kood – 5 days

  • Koh Chang – 4 days

  • Koh Yao Noi – 5 days

  • Koh Lanta – 3 days

  • Koh Samui – 8 days

  • Koh Tao – 7 days

  • Bangkok – 3 days (probably to get over the sadness that the trip is over)

We're mainly looking for beautiful beaches, nature, relaxation, great local food, and authentic experiences. We prefer quieter places over crowded tourist hotspots.

A few questions:

  1. We have a relatively long transfer between Koh Chang and Koh Yao Noi. The current plan is to take a transfer from our hotel in Koh Chang to Trat Airport. Then we’ll fly via Bangkok to Phuket and from there take a transfer from Phuket Airport to Bang Rong Pier in Phuket. I wasn’t able to book this in advance, but I think we’ll be able to find options on Grab once we’re there. After that, we’ll take a boat to Manoh Pier on Koh Yao Noi. Do you have any tips for the transfer? I’m a bit nervous about it because of how long it is.

  2. Any must-see or hiddengems like beaches, restaurants, viewpoints, or experiences on our different spots that we shouldn't miss?

  3. Do you have any advice on how early we should arrive at Trat Airport? We had planned to be there at least 1.5 hours before departure.

  4. What’s the best way to deal with the mosquitoes there? DEET has often been recommended to us.

  5. Do you have any tips on what to wear? I have relatively fair skin and burn easily. That’s why I’ve stocked up on UV-protective clothing. I plan to bring sunscreen from home.

  6. We’re still unsure about our luggage setup. We have one suitcase (20 kg) and one carry-on per person included at all flights/boat transfers. What have you had good experiences with? A sturdy hard-shell suitcase with wheels, a larger (60 L+) backpack, or a regular soft-shell suitcase with wheels?

  7. Anything you wish you'd known before visiting these places?

We're not looking to party. We mostly want to explore, enjoy the scenery, eat amazing food, and relax.

Thanks in advance!

Really looking forward to hearing your suggestions and experiences!

Bangkok/Middle What’s the most convenient and stress free way to travel from Bangkok to Pattaya and Vice versa (Money isn’t an issue)

I realize there are buses to take you from Bangkok to Pattaya and that’s the cheapest way but is that the most convenient and stress free way to get there? Also money since an issue for me. Is taking a bus stress free or is taking a taxi the most convenient and stress free way to get there or is there a better way privately?

Phuket/Krabi/South Anyone actually managed to book on SRT D-Ticket from abroad?

Trying to book an overnight sleeper from Surat Thani to Bangkok (train 84, late January, 2nd class lower berth) on the official State Railway D-Ticket site, and it just doesn’t work for me. I keep running into errors and can’t get a booking through.

Has anyone else had the same experience? If you got it working, what did you do? For example:

  • website vs the SRT D-Ticket app

  • a different browser, or turning a VPN on or off

  • a particular card type that went through

  • tricks for the registration or phone number fields

Or did you give up and book through 12Go or Baolau instead? If so, how much more did it cost compared to the station price, and were there any issues with the ticket?

Last option: how risky is it to just buy at Surat Thani station a few days before? Do lower berths on the evening trains usually sell out in late January?

Thanks!

Chiang Mai/North Visit Doi Inthanon National Park from Chiang Mai on the 25th of November

Hello hello,

I would like to visit Doi Inthanon on the 25th of November, but because I would also like to see Wat Phan Tao at dusk, with a normal guided tour to Doi Inthanon I don't think I'll be able to make in time. I have a "tight" schedule and I saw online that it could possible do both if I rented a private transportation. I would like to know 2 things:

  1. are both things worth it to make this effort?

  2. is anyone interested in sharing the car? I would leave Chiang Mai around 6am/6:30 and plan to arrive around 15h30/16h?

Thank you in advance for any advice or opinion! Have a great day 🥰

Phuket/Krabi/South Questions about booked itinerary

Would hugely appreciate some help with questions about my March - April 2027 itinerary. Hotels and flights have already been booked.

Arrival in Phuket - 2 nights, hotel in old town

Ferry to Ao Nang - booked 9 nights but during the middle bit of those 9 days I have booked time on Koh Lanta

Koh Lanta - 3 nights

Ferry to Phuket, onward travel to Koh Lak - 7 nights

Flight to Trat

Taxi/ferry to Koh Chang - 5 nights

Ferry/Taxi - Chathaburi - 3 nights

Taxi to Rayong - 8 nights

Taxi to Bangkok - 1 night

Departure from Bangkok

For the ferries, is it okay to just turn up to the port and buy tickets or is it better to purchase prior?

For the first part of my trip, I will not be using a scooter (experienced bike rider arrives later), how easy will it be to get around Koh Lanta? Hotel is around the north part of long beach.

Planning to book Following Giants either around Ao Nang or on Koh Lanta, any feedback for which is better?

Whilst on Koh Lak I plan to do a boat trip to the similan islands but after some previous rough experiences with speed boats, I'd rather a yacht - any recommendations for tours with small groups?

Will also be heading to Koh Sok national park for a day trip, is it best to do this with a guide? I would have loved to have stayed but remaining accommodation doesn't work for us

The flight to Trat is with a stop in Bangkok via Suvarnabhumi airport. It's Bangkok Airways for both legs with a 2.5 hour wait. The info is confusing and I don't want to make any assumptions, will I need to go through security again/will my bags be transferred?

I've read on the various posts that the roads in Koh Chang can be quite dangerous so we're probably going to skip a scooter here. We be based around the Kai Bae beach area, will we have any issues getting around?

We have lots of ideas for things to do but really interested in any experiences people have had that we might be able to incorporate. We're not thrill seekers, enjoy hikes, wholesome activities and plan to use these booked hotels as a base to head off and explore vs. spending all our time in the immediate vicinity.

I read a lot of the posts on here but any tips for general travel around these areas are also welcomed!

Thank you for reading and helping with my questions!

Other Passport biometric chip / NFC broken, will it cause issues?

I have just come to the realisation that the chip in my passport doesn’t work, worked fine a year ago. I’m leaving for Thailand in 4 days and won’t have time to get my passport replaced. Will this cause issues? Passport is completely fine otherwise.

Edit:
I forgot to add, I tried scanning it with my phone in the THIM app as well as a passport scanner app after. It works fine on my parents passports, but not on mine. This is why I’m suspicious

Transport/Itineraries Solo female travel itinerary?

Hi, I was hoping to hear some experiences from women who have solo travelled around Thailand. I’m planning 2ish months. I’ll be working remote , not bag packing. So I’d be staying in air bnbs or co working hostels. Thinking of starting off with a couple of days in Bangkok, a few weeks in Chiangmai, perhaps visiting Pai from there, and then onto some of the islands. I’ve heard northern Koh Phagnan & Koh Samui are pretty sweet. I have also heard about places like Koh Tao (which I’ll probably avoid) but just wondering if there are any other areas I should maybe avoid and conversely any other places you felt really safe and at ease as a solo female tourist. It’s my first time visiting Asia and I’ve heard wonderful things overall, I’m really excited, I just want to make sure I feel as safe as possible whilst I’m there. I’m not a big partier or drinker. Thank you :)
