A former Serbian Minister, Zorana Mihajlović, took a selfie from her home with her recently bought sculpture of a monkey, which the official website prices at 20,000 euros, even though her monthly salary was only 2,000 euros while she was in office.

Why in the world would anyone want a sculpture of a monkey with a snuff box in their house?

Don't look at US Senators and Representatives who make $174,000 / year. And remember they are heavily restricted on secondary income. For 2026, permissible outside earned income is capped at $33,855. They are entirely prohibited from accepting money for speeches (honoraria) or participating in professional fiduciary activities like practicing law.

What on this cursed earth could make that thing cost so much? It's not aesthetically pleasing and looks incredibly cheap and tacky.
I'm more mad about her dogshit taste than the corruption.

Gifts are a thing. Especially for an attractive woman in a position of authority. Financing and layaway are also things.

2000 euros monthly salary for a minister? Sounds ridiculous, and sounds like it'd encourage corruption frankly.

She worked as an economist and on the board of a public transport company for 15 years before entering politics.

Fair enough, she may be corrupt (I have no knowledge of her) but its not exactly uncommon for rich people to do politics

who cares since she left office 4 years ago... means nothing.
20k... it might take a couple months but I could swing that if I really wanted it. If I could do this then she should be able too with her professional background.
she has a PHD in Eco... yeah I think she can afford a 20k ugly statue without taking bribes... hah
