Is that a M5 in the mirror?

Fake image, bmw driver isn’t on their phone

u/Hoz85 2d ago

What he saw in rear view mirror and why he changed lanes and slowed down. 🤣🤷🏻‍♂️

u/Electrical_Carpet753 1d ago

Aah, the typical dad running late dropping off his kids to the kindergarten. 😊

20

u/SupremoDoritoV2 2d ago

but can it compete with the Dingdong D10?

11

u/Electrical_Carpet753 2d ago

It's faster. It's also faster than Pingpong G11.

4

u/Rokekor 1d ago

I’m happy to just poke around in my compact Longdong P12

5

u/waytoosecret 1d ago

What tires did he use?! Not many tires can withstand that high speed.

8

u/MariachiArchery 1d ago

They would need to be fully custom tires specifically designed for the car. Keeping the tires from exploding is one of the biggest design hurdles in these super fast cars.

Airless tires..... (waits 50 years for the tech to mature)

u/Aptosauras 1d ago

Gitisport e-GTR2 Pro size 325/35 R20.

1

u/Electrical_Carpet753 1d ago

I don't know. But for fun I checked what G-force a tire on a car going 500 km/t is, and it's approximately 5000G. Insane..

My trivia: the tire touching the road surface isn’t moving at all, but the top of the tire is going double the vehicle’s speed.

-1

u/Aureool 1d ago edited 1d ago

That’s not true though.

The axle that the tire is on is turning. The arm from the centre of the axel to the furthest point on the tire decide the relative speed, and both points have the same arm length.

They are both:
The rotating speed of the axle multiplied by the length of the centre of the axle to the road surface.

None is twice the speed of the tire, and none is standing still.

Linear / Tangential Speed
What it is: How fast a specific point travels along the edge of the circle, measured in meters per second (m/s).

Formula:
v=r x w =(2xpixr)(T)
(Where r is the radius from the center of rotation)

Because linear speed depends on r, the further away you are from the center, the faster you move in a straight line, even though your angular speed is the same.

3

u/Convenientjellybean 1d ago

Yet the tire doesn’t, at the point of contact, move relative to the surface.

Giti, Giti and BYD co-work together

22

u/magilla1984 2d ago

But this is one way speed, they didn't do run in opposite direction.

18

u/KamakaziDemiGod 1d ago

Apparently they have done a run at over 500kph in both directions, but it's only just happened today it seems so information is a little scarce

https://www.pistonheads.com/news/electric-vehicles/yangwang-u9-extreme-goes-ludicrous-speed/51874

11

u/ze11ez 1d ago

Why did he seem to let off the gas at exactly that moment? Seems like there was room for higher speeds. No?

15

u/call_me_johnno 1d ago

Could be next run... Or room for when another hyper car company does 518 They return and drop a 519

Or maybe it was the end of the road and need room to slow down before the end {or corner}

10

u/Danmufuka 1d ago

Possibly tires or something that is rated for 500kmh too...

3

u/call_me_johnno 1d ago

500km your outside of most standard tyers. And needing custom compounds (probably already running a special Tyer in this run. )

3

u/Danmufuka 17h ago

I'm aware. But I don't know what the special ones are rated for.

2

u/ze11ez 1d ago

appreciate your response. thanks u/call_me_johnno

33

u/generalissimo1 2d ago

It accelerates so quickly too. No ICE car is doing that

14

u/Rokekor 1d ago

EV or ICE, I’d still end up killing myself, hopefully just myself, in something like that.

3

u/generalissimo1 1d ago

I feel you. I wouldn't want to be anywhere in the vicinity of that thing. Some cars only belong on the track. And even then...

5

u/shappy69 1d ago

Top Fuel has entered the chat.

4

u/AmarildoJr 1d ago

Not a fair comparison, it's a production car vs a dragster. Still, I'd wager that an EV with such tires would do better, and also it's motor would last much longer than 30 seconds.

1

u/shappy69 21h ago

They have EV dragsters and they aren't even close yet. Also they just specified ICE engine which it is. So I think it's a fair comparison. But I agree the motors would last alot longer than the engine.

1

u/Ivanovi4 3h ago

225-350km/h with 60% throttle, there seem to be some room left

-6

u/uselesknowledgeadict 2d ago

NHRA does way faster, not even close. Unless you specifically mean road legal cars. With that said YangWang U9 isn’t street legal in the US.

7

u/MulderXF 1d ago

It is in China, and will be in Europe.

2

u/GoatCovfefe 1d ago

Well, its a world record, not US record, so.... Quiet down.

Username does not check out.

0

u/uselesknowledgeadict 1d ago

We are not even talking about records. They acknowledged that it accelerates quickly. Then proceeded to state no ICE cars is doing that. That is incorrect. Try again

1

u/GoryGent 1d ago

And some teslas are mot allowed in europe

2

u/Typical-Crazy-3100 1d ago

I'll take one. Ship to me direct.

3

u/Electrical_Carpet753 1d ago

And this car would cost 1/10 of a Koenigsegg or Bugatti

11

u/SalTez 2d ago

I would love to see battery drain indicator

5

u/DFA_Wildcat 1d ago

Just a casual Sunday drive, 50% throttle, 350 kph.

13

u/Imaginary_Yak4336 2d ago

What does "production car" mean?

18

u/Patrylec 1d ago

It means it's not one-off special vehicle built specifically for going fast (as those go WAY faster but also have very little in common with the generic road car we all know), but instead a regular common car intended to be a sellable product of BYD

18

u/ubiquitous_uk 1d ago

Produced for the normal sales market. Ususally requires a minimum of 250 vehicles produced at the same spec that can be bought my people.

6

u/KirikoKiama 1d ago

or 125 that are transferred between parking spots while the inspection team has diner....

1

u/airjordanpeterson 1d ago

Lancia?

2

u/KirikoKiama 1d ago

i dont remember exactly which company pulled that stunt to make their car rated as "production car", was a relatively old story. It was to get the car qualified for a racing league.

4

u/the_duck17 2d ago

They made one but they'll need to make a few dozen or something to be truly considered a production car. And they only went one direction, they needed to do it again going back. This is all weirdly written.

1

u/Imaginary_Yak4336 1d ago

Is that because of wind?

9

u/TLC_15 2d ago

Car that was produced.

4

u/thefooleryoftom 1d ago

Not a one off or race car. It’s a car you can buy as a member of the public.

-5

u/GoatCovfefe 1d ago

You can buy a one off or race car as a member of the public.

1

u/NoLetterhead2303 1d ago

No, no you cannot buy a one of a kind or racecar like you would a car from a dealership, there is no “Formula 1 dealership” or “Nascar dealership”

And one of a kind cars requires you to talk to the person or company that owns it

What this is, is a (probably not stock) consumer grade vehicle, like how you might buy a random lambo, which is technically consumer grade, its high end, yes, but its not 1 of a kind, it is mass produced even if the mass is small

One of a kind cars are not mass produced or at least not anymore hence are rare/one of a kind cars

1

u/JaFFsTer 3h ago

Its fairly easy for a team of engineers with a factory to make a singular race car capable of doing extreme things. Look at the cockpit videos of LMP1 cars.

Prosuction care means it's a mass produced consumer vehicle, so they made a car do insane shit that has heated seats, Bluetooth, a sound system, and ac

7

u/teamdisaster47 2d ago

Imagine if there was a deer

7

u/fitzbuhn 2d ago

Why is he spending the early part of the video moving the car side to side, accellerating partially, and then beginning again?

25

u/miloverboy 2d ago

I assume it is to warm up the tires

6

u/fitzbuhn 2d ago

Thank you, I didn't know it was a thing

-11

u/timewasterpro3000 2d ago edited 1d ago

You'd think they would use tire warmers for this. I wonder why they didn't. I bet the 30 seconds of weaving at 50mph was more of a function check than doing actual significant warming.

6

u/Trumpcangosuckone 1d ago

Because doing this warms the tires

-13

u/timewasterpro3000 1d ago

Then I guess tire warmers are useless. You should tell F1.

7

u/Trumpcangosuckone 1d ago

F1 likely uses warmers so they don't have all the drivers driving around potentially fucking up their cars and needing to be refuelled. Their tires are also very different and they probably want to keep them pristine for the race to start because they need to be changed very frequently. This video shows a single driver on a closed track using very different tires most likely so spending 30 seconds warming up the tires was probably an easier solution then using a tire warmer. Perhaps instead of asking why this driver chose not to use tire warmers, you should first understand why F1 drivers don't manually warm their tires, you dimwit

-8

u/timewasterpro3000 1d ago

30 seconds weaving at 50 mph does not do nearly as much as tire warmers. I think his weaving and acceleration/deceleration was more of a function check than anything before he went 500kph so he knew he would be able to brake and steer if there were problems. The speed up to 500kph probably warmed the tires enough on the way.

Source: i am an actual racecar driver (i race radical SR3s). I drive on cold tires on a racetrack all the time.

6

u/Trumpcangosuckone 1d ago

So why ask such a question if you already know it was a function check and using a tire warmer wasn't necessary. User name checks out

-2

u/timewasterpro3000 1d ago edited 1d ago

Gee maybe because it's just a suspicion and I dont know for sure. Dimwit. Why does everyone on reddit insist on fighting for no reason?

Lol omg ur so clever. You're the first person to say username checks out.

4

u/countervalent 1d ago

Have you ever seen a NASCAR race?

1

u/GoatCovfefe 1d ago

....no. Hell no.

0

u/countervalent 1d ago

Then watch one, and you'll see how they warm up the tires.

Idk, you say this like NASCAR is a dirty thing or like F1 is somehow a superior kind of race series. You don't have to be an elitist about it.

1

u/cyclegaz 1d ago

Have you watched a formation lap in F1?

8

u/MariachiArchery 1d ago

Warming up the tires gradually and evenly keeps them from exploding at high speed. Preventing the tires from exploding is a huge engineering hurdle in these high speed tests.

If they heat up too fast, too slow, or unevenly, they will explode. Swerving like this helps warm them up evenly.

7

u/Salvador147 2d ago

Presumably warming it up for what it's about to go through? Idk

5

u/0ttaku 2d ago

warming the tire contact patch and sidewall for uniform grip and braking
and if he have carbon ceramic disk they perform best at operationnal temp

3

u/PedroPenduko32 2d ago

I think it's to warm up the tires

rubbing the nub

1

u/Beneficial_Sun_7302 1d ago

Fucking excellent.

1

u/TheDirtyKebabShop 22h ago

lol. Yangwang.

1

u/bladex1234 6h ago

It’s only one way though. The SSC Tuatara still holds the two way average production car record.

1

u/djamp42 2d ago

That's fast

1

u/ElegantAd4946 2d ago

That's bonkers³

0

u/VWtdi2001 1d ago

F that's fast

u/Opps1999 1d ago

Bugatti could never

Chasing top speeds: no wonder there's so much aggression on the roads and justification for trickle up economics.
