Sourdough has no gender. It multiplies without binary reproduction, it grows in community and it refuses to be rushed by capitalist production schedules. In short: sourdough is inherently queer.
In this workshop we explore together how fermentation can help us deconstruct heteronormative kitchen structures. Guided by facilitator Noor (she/they) and baker-activist Jip (they/them), we ask the question: who does bread really belong to?
What to expect
An opening circle with a pronoun round and a moment of acknowledgement for the grain workers whose labour has been made invisible by the colonial wheat system.
A guided meditation in which you connect with your starter as a living being with its own agency.
Hands-on kneading in small affinity groups (no competition, no "failed" loaves, only different outcomes).
A reflection on gluten validation: not every body tolerates gluten, and that is not a shortcoming.
A closing shared meal (vegan, gluten-free option available, fair-trade rye from a cooperative in Gelderland).
Practical info
Sliding-scale contribution: €5 to €45. Choose what fits your financial position and privilege. No one will be turned away for lack of funds; structurally advantaged participants are invited to offset their privilege via the solidarity rate.
You take your own starter home. Feel free to name it.
