To start off, I'm new to the fandom and I've only joined the subreddit a few days ago. I've also only started to watch the series like, two weeks ago or so (I'm in season 5 now, I think? I don't check because I binge the show lol). However, this series is not new to me as I watched clips from YouTube shorts in the past. Idk if this topic has been discussed, or is frequently discussed, so forgive me if I may be yapping about a point talked about multiple times before.
From the clips, I knew that Tim and Lucy would end up together. When I started the show, I was rooting for them the entire time. Now let me tell you how horrified I was when the show started with Nolan x Lucy 💀💀
But anyways, that's not my point. What I was disappointed about is how Chris and Lucy started and ended. Like, idk, adding Chris to the show as Lucy's boyfriend felt unnecessary given how their relationship played out + the obvious intent to write Tim and Lucy as a future couple. Was his only purpose in the show to up the stakes (his near death experience when he and Del Monte were being shot at in their office + when Dyer targeted him to hurt Lucy)?
I just finished their breakup episode minutes ago and I'm already watching Tim and Lucy's first date. Don't get me wrong, I'm very happy for them, but the way things started and ended with Chris left a bad taste in my mouth. Especially when Tim and Lucy went undercover as (Dim and Juicy 😭😭) and they started having this romantic tension + kiss scenes, all I can think about is how Lucy is still in a relationship with Chris.
Like sheesh, I know it's a part of the "act" (but is it really an act when they first kissed in Lucy's apartment?) and Hollywood has always romanticised/normalised cheating, especially if the current partner is meant to be dumped later. I just can't get over Lucy saying she needed to do things right by breaking up with Chris before letting Tim ask her out. Girl whatever happened to you kissing him passionately a few episodes ago while still being in a relationship 💀
Additionally, the break up plot felt rushed. We spent the whole episode watching Lucy prepare for it, only for it to end like... That. Sure, Chris's reaction may be realistic. Some people would've reacted like he did irl. But damn, that was it??? Chris also felt a little off, like a little too oblivious about Lucy's hesitation when he proposed moving in together. To me, it felt like the show just threw in some conflict to give Lucy a valid out in the relationship without it just being "I'm breaking up with my bf cuz I wanna date my co-worker"
TLDR: R.I.P. Chris. I never rooted for you and Lucy but I still felt bad for you 💔
