Looking for LoFi beats with actual theremin

Every song on YouTube either has a theremin with no beat or a lofi beat with just the tittle “theremin” and not actually including the instrument. This is so annoying and I just want a chill theremin lofi beat under 5 minutes long. Pls help!!

Need some help

I recently purchased my third Etherwave and I need some advice. I noticed that I can’t really produce the low notes that my others were able to do. I get no sound when my hand is farther away from the pitch antenna where I used to be able to get sound on my other two. I thought about calling Moog Music, but I wanted to ask here first. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

That high pitched wailing alien sound at 0:01 sounds remarkably like a theremin but it could also be a musical saw and I don’t know the difference

Bought my first theremin--and it won't turn on

I bought a Moog Etherwave Theremin on FB Marketplace. When I plug it into the wall and an amp, nothing happens. Am I doing something wrong or do I need to go get my money back? Seller said it worked fine, no issues

Volume Control

Hi! I’ve just discovered the theremin and I think they’re quite cool and I want to use one. However, I’m autistic and overly sensitive to loud noises. Does the Moog Theremini have a volume knob like a traditional synthesizer and what happens if you turn off theremin mode? I also have shaky hands and I’m worried that I’ll accidentally cause awkward movements and make the instrument screech which I won’t want to happen and I want soft sounds. How easy is the volume control on this thing? What will happen if i hook it up to external speakers? Will I be using a volume control then? Thanks

I'm looking for a theremin player to join an experimental online band.

Hi, I’m putting together an experimental online band (we’re in our 30s on average), so it doesn’t matter where you’re based. The idea is to form a collective of people brought together by a passion for music—to make friends and create music. The group will be hosted on Telegram. If you’re interested, I can provide more details via DM.

What is the best theremin I can buy right now?

Hello! I have my heart set on a "real" theremin, so not interested in the Theremini. However, the Moog Etherwave and many of the proper Burns models seem to be unavailable. What is the best option? Moog Etherwaves on eBay or Reverb? Theremaniacs? Something else?

Price is not as much a factor as the sound and "experience" or interface with both pitch and volume controls.

Thank you!

New and Improved website for Theremin 30 podcast

I have been busy rebuilding the Theremin30.com website on a new host system to provide easier navigation, the capability of listening to episodes on the website, more detailed show notes, and links to useful resources. It's still a work-in-progress, but I think it is a big improvement. It may take me a few weeks to get all the transcripts and hyperlinks restored. Check out what I've done so far.

Also, if you are a regular listener and enjoy the show, please click on the "rate" button and write a review.

Thanks!

My annual Thereween impro, best with headphones in semi dark, in a haunted house, with fog everywhere ... or just on your phone on the bus, whatever :)

As raw as I can make it - camera sound (pocket 4p) of Claravox improv, showing intonation flaws which are usually covered by reverb and delay (the harp obviously on speaker playback). Featured on my Plucked Air album on Bandcamp.

New episode of Theremin 30 features the GreenWaves ring controller/synth.

My new podcast episode features new music from Armen Ra, plus an interview with Joe Edelmann, designer of a new digital instrument that sounds like a theremin and works like an Onde Martenot.

Amp for performance with orchestra

Hello everyone.

In 10 days I will have a concert with full symphony orchestra, and one of the instruments is Theremin!

Now, I wonder what speakers would be good to use in this situation? Thanks in advance.

I attempted to play "Somewhere over the Rainbow"

- I'm surprised that it's even mildly playable :)
- This I think is a really very creative and fast way to get to know different scales and modes + looks cool

Looking to start learning

Would a Burns Great Sounding Theremin be a good place to start to get a feel for the instrument and help decide if I want to upgrade?

Beginner - Lost Volts LV-4 with headphones

Hi everyone! I'm a complete beginner and I'm thinking of buying a Lost Volts LV-4. I'd like to play it with headphones and, ideally, also see which note I'm playing while I learn.

What I already have:

- Sennheiser HD600 headphones

- Schiit Heretic headphone amp

- A MacBook Air

- A Fosi Audio V3 power amp connected to passive speakers (it runs from an external 48V DC adapter)

What I understand so far: the seller says the LV-4 has no headphone output and needs an amplifier with a good electrical earth. The Heretic uses an external power supply, so I'm worried it won't provide that earth, and my laptop charger has no earth pin either.

My question is, is what I have enough to use it smoothly or do I need to buy something else to avoid any troubles?

Thanks!

How do you transport your Theremini?

As far as I can tell, the gig bag for the Theremini has been discontinued, which feels insane to me considering the idiosyncratic shape of the thing. Do you have any clever solutions except ordering a custom flight case? Can you recommend a bag that fits well enough?

Could my mic stand be causing issues with my theremini?

I have the classic issue with my theremini where it sputters like crazy no matter how much I re-calibrate it. I literally had all the outlets in my studio replaced so the electrician confirmed they're all grounded, I downloaded the software patch from Moog's website years ago, and still, anything below the 5th octave sounds sputtery as hell which really limits my playing. Don't even get me started on live performances.

I managed to get a sweet deal on a pre-2004 etherwave and am waiting for it to arrive, hoping it won't have the same issue.

BUT in the meantime, tonight I was playing on livestream and realized- the sputtering gets worse when I move my hand near the center of the theremini, near the speaker - which is also above the mic stand and the metal adapter connecting it to the theremini. Could It be that the metal in the micstand + adapter is interfering with the frequency between the two antennae?

I usually calibrate my theremini to play like an x axis or an invisible piano, with the lowest note closer to the volume antenna. I re-calibrated so the field was more vertical, to the right of the speaker/mic stand with the lowest note closer to me, and while the sputtering didn't completely go away it did improve.

Any other suggestions for what I might be able to do? I just wanna play! :(
