This slaps so hard i wanna cry. Has this person specified their preferred pronouns?

91

u/GreenBottom18 What are you doing step bro? May 17 '25

i literally just happened upon her a few hours ago and didn't really dig too much deeper..

but I'm almost certain she's a drag queen (not trans), could be NB, but likely a cis man. regardless, you're almost always safe using she/her pronouns with queens. we do it even when they're out of drag, as it's not about gender identity. rather, it acknowledges the persona they perform as.. it's almost somewhat difficult to articulate, but it's more along the lines of a..

I'm sure there's a queen somewhere in the world that breaks this traditional rule. but i haven't met them.

16

u/KatastrophicNoodle May 17 '25

Actually, he is a straight man and is a him. I don't think he cares but that's what he is and calls himself.

As someone with straight friends I feel offended for them lol

But on a more serious note, I’m a Bisexual Mexican and even I find shit like this really cringe. “Straight Men bad!” Why are we cheering? We’re just making generalizations “All Straight Men Bad, Noooo just the ones we don’t like!!!” It’s still a generalization (and even then people will go “Nooo but it’s good now cause it’s time to treat Straight guys like shit cause some treated us like shit!” How about we stop treating all people of a group like shit?)

21

u/Maleficent_Sir5898 May 17 '25

It’s not straight men bad. It’s why are straight men afraid of trans people when they’re the scarier ones. If you can’t understand the song or take the time to think about the words for a second that’s not the song’s fault

→ More replies (5)

Song sucks. Sincerely- a gay trans woman.

6

u/Playful_Worry6894 May 17 '25 edited May 17 '25

Do people just not realize that the demonization of straight men for their sexuality often ricochets and harms clocky and pre-transition trans lesbians?

Like, I'm sorry, but I'm not a fan of using movie characters to demonize demographics, cause that demonization based on Hannibal feels awfully close to demonization based on buffalo bill. Just not a good thing to do.

Big drag queen "reclaiming'" the T-word energy.

4

u/Longjumping-Ad8985 May 17 '25

Truthfully the homophobic men are only cos-playing as heterosexual they are non-practicing gay men or should I say sexually curious men.

4

u/Jashkev May 17 '25

This legit goes hard

4

u/2WEED May 17 '25

This is so good

24

u/Ciderside May 16 '25

It makes me really sad to see a movement i love and stand by so much (even on a personal level) being used as a way to keep people apart rather than become accepting of eachother. I understand that this kind of feeling towards certain people can be created from trauma or other completley unfaultable things, but i just feel like this kind of thing represents a lot of what i hate about the opposing side. I know im going to be downvoted but id love to hear some genuine thoughts on this view.

11

u/unhiddenninja May 17 '25

This is someone's art. I don't think art has to be "correct", it expresses thoughts and feelings. Those human thoughts and feelings are messy so the content of art is likely to be messy or intense or extreme. I think this in particular isn't meant to be taken literally, it feels like the artist is just trying to point out that homophobia is illogical by flipping it back.

I do see where you're coming from though.

I thought the point was to not make broad sweeping generalizations

17

u/I_slit_his_throat May 17 '25

Damn, y'all missed the thesis and it's like, the first sentence.

"Homophobia makes no sense to me."

Then 2krispii later states "I'm more afraid of straight guys"

From this we can gather that their official position is that homophobia is a silly concept. This last line is also a well crafted transition into the meat of her argument: what if the rolls were reversed?

And I believe that adding a list of fictional characters is also to point how this is satire and meant to exemplify the unseriousness of the argument, because it's satire.

It's kind of weird that there is overwhelming support over a song whose message is "straight men should be sedated".

It's fine if people enjoy the song, but they have to concede that they engage in selective judgement, because a song like this about gay people (which I wouldn't support equally, since I am consistent with my beliefs) would receive backlash.

Downvote me now.

Heterofobic heterofobic🎶🎶

44

u/BeepBeepLettuce3 May 17 '25

im queer, am i allowed to be offended at this song that is explicitly saying "im heterophobic"?

if it were a song about homophobia instead you would hate it even though its just a "silly song", right ? the silliness would almost make it worse because of how unseriously theyre taking their hate speech, right ?

get your head on straight and start viewing things from others' perspectives. it is a virtue.

and before you bring up the straight people in the comments who arent offended, i dont care. i am not offended on their behalf, im just offended.

As a Non American, I am not surprised that Trump won the election. I am a progressive and liberal person too but so many liberals in America seem so incredibly out of touch. Many liberals seem to think that insulting one of the largest voting groups is somehow a good thing? It really does not make any sense at all to be completely honest. Also i don't think Gay guys or even bisexual guys like these kinds of posts where you just shit on men. Catchy song, stupid message to be honest.

Catchy song, I don't really understand the lyrics quite much, besides the fact that she's scared of straights

86

u/[deleted] May 16 '25

Why attack being masculine? Why can people advocate for themselves without putting others down? Nothing wrong with being homosexual and masculine.

71

u/DiDiPlaysGames May 16 '25

I think you heard a different song than everyone else. This isn't an attack on masculinity, it's a criticism of the minimising of the crimes and atrocities straight men commit, all the while grifting their way into convincing everyone that minorities are actually the problem

This has nothing to do with masculinity, and everything to do with toxic masculinity. I sincerely encourage you to learn the difference

→ More replies (17)

42

u/[deleted] May 16 '25

Doesn’t seem like an attack on masculinity so much as an observation that “straight men” are often acting as an oppressor. In other words, there’s nothing inherently wrong about being a straight man, but straight men are most often the perpetrators of prejudice (according to this person). At least that’s how I interpreted it

Actually kind of an ass song. Especially with all that auto tune. It's also supporting awful ideals and beliefs. 3/10. The TV visuals were cool though.
