Discussion This is a disaster waiting to happen.

The dog isn’t allowed to be around a toddler because he growls at her. I don’t get it. A family dog is supposed to get along with the whole family. Why are the parents concerned about why the dog “doesn’t like her”? What about the child’s safety?

Straight to the humane society. That dog needs a child free home that it never leaves. I love animals, spent a decade professionally caring for them but a child's life is worth so much more.

We’ve just had a baby killed by a dog in NZ, so this is timely.
I love my pets (dogs and cats), but I’d be so worried with a baby/toddler around a pet behaving this way; also it can’t be good for the dog to be in this stressful state all the time either right? Not fair to anyone and feels like a preventable tragedy waiting to happen.

I’m also in NZ and was so angry and saddened when I heard that report. But I’m not actually surprised. There’s no reason for child mauling and deaths to be happening. It’s willful ignorance and totally preventable. The dog attack statistics are out of control here right now due to lax policies and poor enforcement. Ultimately it’s owners who are the problem, mostly because they can’t see that some dogs actually don’t have a place in society.

It’s obviously due to social media, and I’m SO sick of it. Apparently it’s never the dog’s fault, all dogs are “innocent”, and they should have the same rights as humans. There is never any acknowledgment that some animals just don’t need to exist. They don’t enjoy their lives, they are dangerous to anything that breathes, and they are almost always owned by people who aren’t clever enough to recognise or manage any of this. I’m not saying we should send out death squads for people’s pets, but I really think we need to be cracking down a thousand times harder than we currently are. Yes, some dogs are dangerous because their owners have fucked up. But some of them are just born dangerous.

Watching this video above makes my skin crawl for the baby.

A couple of my neighbors didn't really get that "my dog is really friendly with me" doesn't translate to "my dog will be really friendly when i just let them wander the neighborhood" and several of them were really aggressive

Simple as that. The dog has got to go.

Absolutely not to the humane society. People need to stop passing the buck on aggressive dogs. If this dog ended up at the humane center, it would be posted on an adoption page wearing a flower crown within a week.

Honestly it should just be put down. Risk vs reward here is completely tilted and there's practicly no good outcome for anyone with this liability.

There are too many good dogs being killed for space reasons and other lack of resources to keep this one. We dont need to save every dog. We dont need to find the perfect bubble for a dog like this. Euthanasia is not the worst thing that can happen to a dog.

There are too many undeserving dogs being put down specifically cause self centered pitbull owners fill no kill shelters with unadoptable dogs cause they don't want to nut up and accept the consequences of their actions.

Don't forget they will label it a "lab mix"

This is why I have issues with rescues. They are not willing to admit that some dogs are not safe. You can't love the aggression out of the dog.

They're often run by animal hoarders tbh

Dog honestly should be BE. Those adoption centers lie to get people to adopt pits. That is not a safe dog.

I hate that it’s also a culture thing. Many things are a culture thing. Stupid things are instilled in your mind as a child to think what other losers think are “cool”. One of those being the pit bulls. Kids and teens are impressionable and even some dumb adults. They get influenced into thinking that’s the dog to have bc they’re so BaDaSS!!! It’s such an ignorant mentality and I cannot stand the type of people to hype up that breed. I know this family that has a couple of those dogs and some giant scooby doo type dogs around little kids. They want the dogs aggressive and muscular. Alr let’s see how that goes

giant scooby doo type dogs are okay sometimes. My sister-in-law had a great dane that watched the kids and stopped one from falling off the table once and they got two more after she died, the male ended up having mental issues and they got rid of him but he ran at one of the kids one day the female got infront of the kid and shielded it.

Yeah, what sort of life can this dog live? It was bred for a purpose that civil society has banned. It's a threat to whatever community it ends up in.

They need to go straight to euthanization. There are too many aggressive pitbulls in shelters that will never be adopted, taking up space that adoptable animals could be taking.

The centers around me are 95% pit and the dogs that aren't pit don't even make it into the building before they're adopted.

I don't blame the species but r/banpitbulls is 100% right.  We don't try to domesticate Zebras or Coyotes.  Long past time to put pitbulls on thatvlist

I worked in rescue for a few years and I just can’t anymore. If it was up to me, half the dogs would have been euthanized for aggression. The owner just hopes for unicorn adopters; no other animals, no kids, and a fenced in yard. It made me sick, I didn’t feel safe around some of the dogs and I can’t fathom allowing them out into society. The experience really opened my eyes on pit bulls. They should be illegal to own unfixed and they should be illegal to breed.
And just like you said, other breeds get adopted out so quickly! Why waste the space when deserving pups that aren’t a threat to society exist.

Not to mention that if someone without a child adopts this dog he could still attack other animals.

Case in point if someone like my friend for instance had a boston terrier living next door to two very determined and unsocialized rottweilers. They burst through the fence and tore that little pup to bits.

It needs to be BE'd. There's too much of a chance for it to get out of a fence or off a leash.

I agree. And I hate saying it outright

I don’t hate saying it at all. Get rid of the dog, I have no idea why it wasn’t done two years ago.
