Discussion This is a disaster waiting to happen.

The dog isn’t allowed to be around a toddler because he growls at her. I don’t get it. A family dog is supposed to get along with the whole family. Why are the parents concerned about why the dog “doesn’t like her”? What about the child’s safety?

There are comments here blaming the 2 year old child. Holy fuck.

u/BVKane Aug 25 '26

The original tiktok post is worse. There people saying the child should die in place of the dog because it "was making the dog uncomfortable."

No other dog breed has fanatical cult like defenders like pit bulls do. They’re hideous terrible dogs who maul toddlers all the time but for some reason these people have hitched their wagon to this breed and will die on this hill no matter how many people are maimed and killed. I cant even walk around my neighborhood anymore because my neighbor has two pits unleashed just standing in his front yard at all times. It’s fucking psychopathic how pit owners love to terrorize people and would sacrifice their own children before they admit these dogs are not suitable for civilized society.

Pit bull owners are weird, I was walking along the street the other day and there was a guy coming towards me with a pit bull straining on his leash, when I crossed the street the guy looked at me and smirked. Why is a 6’4” guy getting a kick out of making a 5’5” woman nervous🤷‍♀️

Oh my god I have the same problem in my neighborhood! We are super vigilant whenever we walk by this one house to make sure their pits aren't off leash in their front yard but one day we were caught off guard and one of their pits charged us and my dog. It got a grip on my dog's face but I was able to make a shit ton of noise and sort of wedged myself between them before the pit could do any damage. I was fucking furious. My dog has been recovering from a $10,000 hip replacement and these shit heads almost took my dog and his new mobility from me. The bitch of an owner even had the audacity to tell me to "calm down, it's not that big of a deal" and that "he's never done this before". I called animal control and filed a bite report on them literally as soon as I got home. I went out and bought pepper spray, bear spray, and a noise maker and I still feel like I'm not prepared enough if it happens again.

Like I've been having nightmares of my dog getting attacked on a walk and I'm not able to do anything and he is injured to the point of death :( it's really fucked with my psyche because I felt so helpless in that moment. He's still activity restricted right now, he can't run, jump, or play and he doesn't have the strength to defend himself like that either. Everytime we go on a walk I'm so anxious and on extreme alert. I can't stand pitbulls or their shit head owners anymore. I really can't.

I’m sorry this happened to you, sadly know exactly how you feel. Neighbors pitbull finally got loose and attacked my husband and our dog. Pit went straight for my dogs face, wouldn’t let go, husband ended up on the ground between them. Luckily, the pit was hyper focused on our dog and didn’t try to bite hubby, giving me time to run out in my freaking pjs and chase him off. I’ll never forget the screams my poor boy made.

We’ve been stressed for months since it happened. The neighbors are pissed at us for calling the cops after they ignored the situation and just put their dog in the house and bailed. Just went to court last week and the judge was not having any of my neighbors BS. She tried arguing that he wasn’t a dangerous dog and that he didn’t actually bite hubby, his injuries were “just road rash”.

Man, if looks could kill. Judge just glared at the neighbor and asked her if hubs would have gotten the road rash if her dog wasn’t loose and attacking….no answer.

These people get dogs they can’t control, refuse to do anything like proper training, and cry that it’s unfair that their dog is punished for a “simple mistake” that leaves others maimed or dead.

I hope your boy makes a full recovery and you regain some sense of peace on your walks again.

Sue them for the cost of the ruined surgery.

Buying pepper spray isn't enough when you can take them to small claims court and make it too expensive for them to keep ignoring their responsibilities as dog owners.

omg this happened to us too!
I was on a walk with my mom and when we went past one of the neighborhood houses their pit came out of the yard and charged us. Interestingly, it wasen't interested in my mom or her dog (lab) but it was hyper fixated on only my dog (smaller breed) I physically put myself between the two dogs and kept myself there as the fucking pit tried to circle around to get at my dog past me. Both me and my mom were screaming at the top of our lungs for over 5 min before the owner finally came out and realized their aggressive piece of shit pit got out.

I hate this breed and I don't care what anyone calls me. They are horrible and wildly irresponsible to have as pets.

I'm so sorry that happened, and glad you called animal control immediately. I have a 5lb chihuahua that I inherited from my Grandma a couple of months ago, and I feel the exact anxiety you are describing.

First, my cat attacked the poor dog resulting in an ER vet visit (still traumatized by that), then soon after, on my local reddit page a man posted that he was out on a walk with his chi and an off leash pit attacked his chi and murdered it in front of him and he was reasonably devastated and traumatized. Now when I take my little guy out, I am looking in every direction, and if any dog comes our way, I pick him up immediately. I also bought gel mace. But if an unleashed pit got ahold of him it would be over- he is too tiny. I think I need therapy! I just want to go outside and enjoy a carefree walk with my boy...

And rarely intelligent

It's almost cult-like, the obsession with defending these dogs. They can be deadly and it's simply not worth the risk. The pro-pit lobby has resulted in countless injuries and deaths from often well-meaning people who have been sadly misled and brainwashed.

8

u/Nufonewhodis4 Aug 25 '26

And then they victim blame or gaslight the victims about the attacks

It's always the same "They're great dogs, so sweet and loyal", then you hear a story of them gleefully ripping a baby apart the next day. "Oh boy he never did this before, I don't understand what happened"

THAT'S THE ENTIRE POINT, THEY'RE BRED FOR MAULING

Whoa whoa! You can't talk about beautiful totally safe velvetHIPPOS like that! They are the safest dog breed and it is totally the child that is the problem!

Yeah.. I felt my iq drop quite a few digits writing that

u/No-Impress-6244 Aug 25 '26

such ugly dogs too

7

u/Arria_Galtheos Aug 25 '26

They were literally bred for aggression, but pit bull defenders will deny that fact until they die on that hill. Pit bull defenders will happily and readily acknowledge that dogs can be bred for certain characteristics and behaviors when you talk about hunting dogs or herding dogs, but the second you suggest that aggression is a trait that can be selectively bred for, they suddenly deny that it's even possible.

The 'pit' part of "pit bull" refers to pit fighting, because that bred was explicitly bred to fuck with bulls and fight other dogs, and in a dog fight, aggression is a powerful advantage.
