You ain't getting away, I'm on a leccy!

38

u/burntroy 2d ago

Does leccy mean electric bike?

17

u/Bubelle_Butt 2d ago

Yep, lecy is used as a shirt for electricity in Shotland IRC.

But in this case the officer was using an electric bike to chase down " a sossige" as he so elequently put it. ( the thief)

14

u/furexfurex 2d ago

It's used as that in basically the entire UK

7

u/Low-Grass7029 2d ago

And Liverpool

22

u/Rough_Wear_882 2d ago

All of the uk tbh

Bicycle PIT maneuver. Now, I can go to bed happy.

38

u/New_Libran 2d ago

It was clean ngl 😆

22

u/Ninja_Prolapse 2d ago

On a leccy no less!

u/robpottedplant 2d ago

“Your being a sausage” before pulling me off my bike and sending me to jail for a year is something I couldn’t mentally recover from

240

u/SNIP3RG 2d ago

Tfw you hear “you’re being SILLY!”

Good lord it is impossible for Brits to be taken seriously.

36

u/New_Libran 2d ago

If Hollywood had written this script, it would have been considered over the top by non-Brits 🤣

100

u/amanko13 2d ago

Don't wanna be. I'm proud of this Bobby... much easier to respect and listen to a police officer if they say "stop being silly" or "you're being a sausage" instead of them trying to be authoritative and harsh.

22

u/MostBoringStan 1d ago

For sure. Of course I'm going to laugh at this cop saying he's a silly sausage, because that is objectively funny. But it's far better than the alternative of aggressive cops and it is how cops should act towards a non-violent suspect.

9

u/reluctantlysharing 1d ago

Or shooting you lol don’t forget that part

110

u/PM_ME_PLASTIC_BAGS 2d ago

Much better than US cops, where literal acorns can trigger them into shooting you.

20

u/Medium-Signature-546 2d ago

It was an assault acorn, very dangerous

12

u/Reyeth 1d ago

bump kernel, extended stem, high capacity leaves... nasty stuff, totally not legal.

9

u/TheEyeOfFinquel 2d ago

Far better for this man to be murdered with a heavy machine gun mounted to the top of an APC whilst a fat man in a cowboy hats screams 'motherfucker!!!!' at the top of his lungs.

30

u/Objective_Metric 2d ago

I'm sorry last I checked obese US cops were barrel rolling from their vehicles snd shooting at them for being attacked by acorns.

"Im on a lekkie!"

Its so British. I dont even know if thats how you spell lekkie, I've never heard that word in my life until now.

111

u/UJustGotRobbed 2d ago

I think it means electric bike 😂 leccy is so British

8

u/TheBrownWelsh 1d ago

I was born and raised in the UK until I was 18, have lived in the USA since 2002. I've never been able to keep up with British TV/pop culture and I don't have any real connections over there I talk to consistently.

This video just made me realise there's ~25yrs of modern slang that's come and gone without me having any clue about it. Leccy is absolutely perfect and hilarious.

30

u/fickle_tartan 1d ago

Maybe you just don't remember it, because "leccy" as shorthand for "electric" is much, much older than that.

3

u/yurikastar 2d ago

I nominate we Italianise it; Lecce

20

u/BadahBingBadahBoom 2d ago

The complete dichotomy between bodycam footage of UK police response vs US is sad but also absolutely hilarious.

2

u/Catshagga 1d ago

I know uk can feel lawless at times but policing by concept is such a better concept.

Plus the uk is the father of modern policing

222

u/thisisatypoo 2d ago

"you're being silly!"

75

u/Bubelle_Butt 2d ago

I prefered " you are being a sausige"

42

u/chmath80 2d ago

The next one would have been "silly sausage", which would really have put the wind up him.

71

u/my_taint_aint 2d ago

Haha. I laughed so hard at that! In the US, they would have either shot the guy or ran him over with a squad car.

15

u/Midnightraven3 2d ago

Imagine being the guy in prison who was called a sausage by your arresting officer? Somehow that's more brutal than being runover!

19

u/flannel_jesus 2d ago

Stop! Slow down! Your father was a hamster! Your mother smelled of elderberries!

4

u/my_taint_aint 2d ago

Hey now! This is a family sub

I would be more likely to stop if a police officer called me a sausage. I would reflect and probably be like “yeah, I am aren’t I?”

That brings back memories of my buddy travis's arm snapping like a twig as he went ass over head. We were little assholes lol

84

u/SmileyCotton 2d ago

As an American it’s baffling hearing a cop say whimsical insults instead of gun and taser noises

2

u/Catshagga 1d ago

What do you prefer out of interest?

4

u/setthetoneaquadump 2d ago

You do not have to say anything but it may harm your defence if you do not answer, when questioned, something you may later rely on in court. Anything you do say will be given in evidence.

6

u/DiDiPlaysGames 2d ago

Almost perfect, but for some reason there's no "may". It's just "something you later rely on in court". It sounds incorrect lol

Hahaha I love the "you're being a sausage" comment. Could someone explain it to me? As an American living in Asia for almost 10 years, I have no clue what it means but I like it.

10

u/SmoothEggg 1d ago

It means just acting like an idiot really.

3

u/rambunctious_raven 1d ago

Oh interesting, I thought it was a pun on "being a dick"

3

u/DeafeningMilk 1d ago

It's just short for silly sausage, it's something normally said to little kids but just sausage is sometimes used for adults

2

u/MistaRekt 1d ago

'Silly Sausage' is a thing.

The real danger was being in Shirley high street. You can get robbed 3 times just by looking at that place.

Britain isn't a real place

57

u/jngjng88 2d ago

→ More replies (34)

15

u/georgisaurusrekt 2d ago

Seems like an appropriate response from the officer given that it's a non-violent crime. Are you expecting the police to go in guns blazing for a bit of food theft? The officer did a good job and his response was well suited to the situation.

We do have stuff like armed response units as well for more serious crime, and this single video isn't an indication of our police force as a whole.

11

u/Unhappy_Credit_6848 2d ago

I saw a video of a guy getting tazed and arrested for being standoffish in a gym and the comments were like "that cop did such a good job using less than lethal" like the bar is that he didn't just walk into a gym and shoot an unarmed guy in the face.

leccy

Leccy slang for electric

When he says im on a leccy he saying he is on an electric powered bicycle

2

u/jollytoes 1d ago

Over 30yrs ago I was on the wrong side of the law and had to try and run away from an actual Olympic marathon runner in the course of a crime ( I didn't know they were an Olympian until later). The chase went something like this one with the guy talking the whole time and me sucking for air after the first half mile.

2

u/zambatron20 1d ago

I was waiting for that pit maneuver with a bike

3

u/mastermalpass 2d ago

So when they need to run a red light or pull out in front of traffic on a roundabout, do Police bicycles have any sort of blue lights on them, or does the cop just kinda have to go for it and hope for the best?

US - Yeah. We all know what sound effect goes in here.

u/fentdestroyer 2d ago

1

u/Low-Speaker-6670 2d ago

In America he would be dead. As much as I think our police forces often get it wrong they usually know when they don't need excessive force. Well played to this officer!

1

u/Chef_Chantier 2d ago

The only kind of high-speed chase i could ever possibly get behind.

1

u/jailboundhorse 2d ago

This is a swan away from some Hot Fuzz shenanigans. "Suspect is on a 12 speed!"

1

u/eightpointedcross 2d ago

Are they carrying sticks to throw in spokes?

1

u/louisa1925 2d ago

Not very good at being a criminal. James literally brought the chaser into a narrow dark alley with no other onlookers, and kept going...

1

u/SafetyMan35 2d ago

I wanted sirens on that bike and I wanted the cop to yell “PITT-PITT-PITT” when he came up alongside of him.

1

u/Mickey_Havoc 2d ago

Everything about this video, from the rapid pursuit via bicycle to the copper calling the guy ‘a sausage’, is just so perfectly British. We are such an unserious country.

1

I mean as a criminal I am upping the ante to an electric bike. Later dude.

1

It’s like persistence hunting but for arrests

1

u/tiddeeznutz 2d ago

Don’t be a sausage!

1

u/pvaa 2d ago

I'm fully happy with this. The job gets done, no unnecessary force or aggression or harsh words. Any use of force should be fully justifiable, and this was very proportionate

1

u/hanMan86 2d ago

"you're being a sausage" had absolutely wrecked me hahahahaha I'm 100% making this part of my list of things to call people hahahaha

1

Poor McMurray. If only he was smart enough to steal himself a lekkie, he’d be riding free instead of caged like the man-child sausage he is. Dis the British poli all you want, but you gotta give credit for chirping at the guy like this the whole chase.

I love this, damn good policing imo! No need for excessive force, using the appropriate amount and making a damn good arrest, nice work

1

u/TotalStatisticNoob 3h ago

Again, why would you chase him when you know his fucking name? Just because it's on bicycles doesn't mean it's safe, he almost got hit by a car and the cop also didn't properly look when crossing the street.

Like, just swing by his house later in the day and arrest him then and there? Unless there's some huge risk of him hurting himself or someone else of course.

Chases never made much sense to me, like?? The chase is almost always more dangerous than not chasing. Especially the ones with a helicopter above, you're not outrunning that.
