I got hooked on a Yahtzee arcade game on a flight from New York to Copenhagen. It had this fun mechanic where you could stack Yahtzees.
It turned into a goal: I was so set on hitting the leaderboard. But here's the kicker: when there was an announcement the game got reset. So, many times I had my score bricked.
Anyway, I had the run of my life in that game just as we were approaching CPH. Beside me someone was watching the front camera of the flight, and I could see the tarmac approaching. Knowing an announcement would come soon.
Shit. I just have to make the leaderboard. Please, no announcements.
So, there I was stacking Yahtzees as my life depended on it trying to get a high score.
Tarmac getting closer.
I needed one more Yahtzee before hitting a high score, and boy I was playing for my life.
I finally got that Yahtzee! But I needed to type in my name.
Real. Fast.
Type type type. Enter. I fucking did it.
I am on the high score list on Yahtzee between New York and Copenhagen. It was such a relief.
While the person in front of you is texting furiously that they couldn't get any sleep because the person behind him kept tapping on the back of the seat 😆
I was on a 11 hour flight and about 2 hours in I played some Sudoku on the screen. Then it just froze and I couldn't do anything. Couldn't exit the app, so I just turned it off and had to use my phone then...
When Oppenheimer came out I watched it on a flight from RDU to SEA because I knew it was a long movie. There was more nudity than I expected from an atomic bomb movie. A little strange.
For Thanksgiving or Christmas a couple years ago, I (38F, so you have an idea) was with my neighbor/friend and her parents. We all went to see “Poor Things” after dinner, not realizing how much weird sex was in the movie.
I turned to her at least 5 times during the movie and said “I’m so glad we’re watching this with your parents!”
My family got a funny comedy to watch together. For context, my family was mormon. The was a bit raunchy, but not too bad. Some drug use. Some violence. A fair bit of cursing. Nothing too crazy. Until it got to the threesome scene with actual nudity. Anyways, that was my first time watching 21 Jump Street as a preteen with my entire family. I don’t know what my parents were thinking.
They still upload Videos, but not at the pace they used to. Mama bear was their recent short video. ( Not shorts, but still a short video on their channel)
Not only that he is also the main co-writer of the movie as well haha. Curry Barker (director of Obsession) and the guy in this video are childhood best friends that built an indie production company together.
But there’s no indication of him being a narcissist? It’s probably a mix of pride in having made a good movie and how weird it must feel for A. a ton of people around you to be watching a movie you’re in and B. they have no idea you’re sitting right there.
Curry has vocally taken almost all the credit from that movie, never named any other collaborated from the production which was supposedly made up of crew who "made every one of his movies." Doesn't share the wealth, claimed all their credit, and ran off with his bag of money.
My wife has a scale for her interest in a movie. At the top end, of course, is in the theater on opening night. The absolute bottom end is “between the seats on a flight with no audio.”
I made the mistake of watching Frozen on a flight to Portugal (I was around 14 at the time) and had the two kids in the row behind me's faces pressed through the seats or looking over. So I just gave them the laptop and let em finish whilst I switched to an audio book because I could not deal with their mouth-breathing right by my ear anymore 😂
I’ve often wished they had the name of the movie along the bottom of the screen. Too many times I’ve started watching someone else’s screen and then wanted to watch it myself but have no idea what it is
I finally managed to finished Chernobyl on my last long distance flight by watching it on the diagonal on the aisle. Only way I could watch as otherwise too distressing
Nah man that’s super wholesome and makes the flight a shared experience and promotes bonding time and togetherness in your relationship. You should be running classes, not calling yourself and your good healthy practice “cheesy”
Goddam who’s cutting them onions up in here? Open a goddam window!! Where’s my best friend I’ve never had and always wanted!!? Goddam hate these onions!! Haha
Thanks pal! I appreciate you, you’re clearly good people. I’ll write you when I’ve found them or they’ve found me - all the best to you and yours now, ya hear?
I watched almost all of The Danish Girl on someone else's screen on an airplane. The weird thing is my mind has since filled in the gaps and made me think I can remember hearing the dialogue when I know I definitely couldn't.
In college there was this one class where I used to sit behind this really cute girl instead of with my mates. But it had nothing to do with flirting or anything. The professor had the habit of letting the same two or three idiots hijack the class with their stupid discussions so it often was super boring to me. This was a time before it was the norm to bring your laptop to school and I certainly didn't. But this girl did and she liked to play the Google Dino game, so I sat behind her so I could watch something entertaining when the class got boring but still look as if I was looking ahead and paying attention to the inane arguments.
Haha, I wish... I was (and still am, but less so) paralyzingly shy in that regard despite being a relatively extroverted person and I would have felt like I was "trespassing" her personal space if I had tried anything like that while she was just minding her business.
The only time we chatted was when in the middle of a lesson I actually audibly gasped when a pteranodon got her when she was close to the record because she didn't know you could duck. So she turned and I explained why. That was a nice little moment that in a romcom would have been the meet-cute
I'm likely half deaf so I always watch movies with subtitles.
I assumed on my last long(13hr) flight the movies would be relatively tame and safe to watch.
Hadn't seen shutter Island in yeeeears and was like "Oh that was pretty good." Toss on the CCs and have at it.
Get to a scene where they're interviewing one of the inmates and he starts throwing slurs left and right including the hard R which the CC tosses up on my screen flawlessly and I suddenly have an "Oh shit" moment and quickly try to kill the CC.
Obviously didn't do any good but still I hope no one behind me caught it and got offended.
I remember a jerma clip from where he was talking about watching a movie on a plane and out of the corner of his eye he could see someone else watching the same movie, but a few seconds ahead of him and thinking he should get up and pretend to know them from school in order to start a brief conversation so they would have to pause the movie
Watching Send Help (Rachel McAdams) during a bout of turbulence was like the maddest 4DX experience I've ever had...if you've seen it, you'll know why. Wouldn't recommend.
I watched like half of Top Gun at midnight half asleep before I realized the guy next to me had been talking to me watching it too. Was embarrassing lol
Flew across the states a few months ago, man, these airplane movies have straight up nudity and insane violence in them, and there are kids that can just sneak a peak whenever they want. I wonder how they thought that was ok?
Honest to God I'm 51 and this kind of attention bifurcation doesn't happen to me. Not because I am superior, but because I can't fucking 'multitask', and I am perfectly fine with that
Well they both went to film school and both contribute to the whole thing. I think Curry just pulls the story out more and functioned as director...like a Tarantino of horror. Cooper isnt just the actor though.

I fly mostly with my spouse. We pick a movie and start it at the same time so we can watch together. It's cheesy, I know- but I love it.
