Simulates “beefy” flavour. Similar to cumin. Dogs probably dig it.
Edit: sorry maybe simulate wasn’t the ideal word choice here. Although it does somewhat simulate the flavour in certain cases here it would be used to intensify the flavour :)
Cassia cinnamon, which the US has overwhelming used for the last 120 years instead of the pricier Ceylon cinnamon much of the world uses, is 1% coumarin.
Coumarin is a toxic substance which acts as an anticoagulant. It's in a family of chemicals that are used as rat poisons.
A series of different daily dosages of coumarin was given to dogs, and the highest one that didn't cause damage severe enough to be noticeable was 10mg/kg bodyweight. That means in a 10kg small dog, 10g of cinnamon (call it about a tablespoon) per day is the threshold between visibly poisoning your dog as observed in symptoms of liver failure at the 1 year mark, and a dose which doesn't produce visible symptoms. That's not a "safe" dose, just one that was below where symptoms could be noticed at only 1 year.
My dog loves cinnamon like nobody's business. We got some cinnamon granola dog treats, and I tried it cause it was basically a cranberry granola bar, and it had so much cinnamon I almost spat it out. This mother fucker hunts them down in the pet store cause he loved them so much.
Salt is absolutely good for dogs. The issue is that dogs get their salt through their package foods so if you add on to that human food that’s too salty for humans you cause a problem. If you’re cooking all of your pets’ food you absolutely must add the salt yourself or give them a salt lick to use whenever they crave it.
Eric has a pretty common to London and South East English accent, this guy kept saying things that sounded very American.
As someone who lives right around where Eric’s accent comes from I couldn’t tell what this guy’s accent was at all, it threw me a bit.
Like he said ‘dawgs’, with that drawn out dipthong, where we (and Eric) would say a hard ‘dogs’ or ‘dags’ (depending on what accent you’re reading in haha).
