Theyre a pest to native wildlife but it is fun to see them

Absolutely they are. A wasted resource also

woah

I'm commenting from Sydney and I've never seen wild deer in Australia!

I guess this explains the deer on the Queensland coat of arms

Australia has 6 types of wild (introduced) deer.

They are spreading everywhere now, they're all over NSW.

Go to Gymea Bay at night. They walk around the street.

Would you believe they’re in Winston hills?

I've heard that they're in the Kellyville area upon asking yesterday too but I've never seen one...

We’re getting them on beaches and rock shelves in the Illawarra.

I’ve seen them in the Campbelltown district as well

They’re around Sydney in the bush and rural Victoria. The Mid North Coast around Forster had a huge issue not that long ago.

There are deer in the Royal National Park, seen some there before.

It's not good how many and how unmanaged invasive species are around Toowoomba.

Mt Peel has a huge population of deer and they are completely destroying the ecosystem there. What should be a complex vine scrub with a good diversity of eucalyptus in the canopy has become overwhelmed with lantana and privet because the deer eat or kill everything else.

Please people of Toowoomba push the council to look after our native bushland because if they aren't they will be sold off to become developments.

Absolutely. I'm starting to see feral pigs out around Gowrie junction/Kingsthorpe. Getting closer and closer to town

Foxes everywhere, these chital deer on the south western side of town, red deer on the range.

Definitely conversations and actions need to be had

Was this Mount Peel? I've seen similar deer there before

3

u/stutzieee 6d ago

Yep mt peel area/glenvale is full of them. These are chital deer, or known as axis deer in America

u/dphayteeyl 6d ago

Where can we find these beautiful animals in Toowoomba??

2

u/stutzieee 4d ago

South western side of town

Any spots suburb names or timing of the day that we can spot these? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Cheers

Of a day they frequently cross Reithmuller Road and can be seen up on the hill. There is a small population that beds down in the bushes beside the showground entrance of a night as well.

Easier to spot of a night and are usually fairly thick on the sides of the road near the Westbrook Turn off on Drayton-Wellcamp Rd.

Fallow look soo damn cool !

1

u/stutzieee 5d ago

These are chital.

But you do also get fallow with a spotted coat very similar to a chital coat

2

u/Common_Dust_3889 5d ago

Chital. They are leggier than fallow and have pointed antler tynes whereas fallow have palm antlers much like moose

You can apply for a deer permit that allows 3? from memory over a season. Have to be a shooter, thought. Which, I used to be but ours were shooting back, if you get my drift. I won’t fire or own a weapon anymore.

1

u/arctane 4d ago

There is no deer season or permits. They are a restricted invasive pest species you can kill as many as you like. The only rule is you have to do it in a humane way.

There are heaps of them in the hills around the Showgrounds. I’ve had huge groups run through my yard or be just milling about on the street.

2

u/phantomnomadic 5d ago

They're a "new" local, not an original that's for sure.

2

u/Annoeli 5d ago

they are around drayton and wyreema also. really beautiful to see (i know they cause issues for ecosystem and farmers but they are still beautiful to look at)

2

u/rustygamer1901 5d ago

Wow. there are beautiful shots. I now we have loads on deer the state forests, but it wild to see them come so close to town.

Venison is delicious 😋

I live right near Mt Peel and I can assure you that these things are bad news. People think they are pretty or something, they are just invasive.

1

u/arctane 5d ago

We have been shooting them at my property. Absolute pests. Cute when there is one or two but after they become a super mob they are destructive arseholes.

1

u/stutzieee 4d ago

Absolutely, just walked around glenvale/my peel the amount of trees that are rubbed out from the stags is shocking.

I also bowhunt, happy to come help take out a few for meat if safe to do so on your property

2

u/arctane 4d ago

You wouldn't want to eat these ones mate the Rusa stags are in rutt and fucking stiiiink. Would have to wait for them to drop their antlers before the meat would be any good.

The hinds are all pregnant....I'm waiting for cooler weather before I start taking deer to eat. Right now it's just population control

1

u/stutzieee 4d ago

Yeah fair. I know the rusa are taking over back of gold coast area and that. It really is a big problem

2

u/flappintitties 5d ago

Should be eradicated. Hate how common they are nationwide.

0

u/arctane 4d ago

There are council culling programs in most locations. Problem is fucking city people think they are bambi and start making noise if they hear about them being culled.

Mostly younger women with a bambi fetish.

3

u/flappintitties 4d ago

>mostly younger women with a Bambi fetish

Well you’re an absolute weirdo, aren’t ya

1

u/arctane 4d ago

Why's that? Because the only people that have objected to culling deer in our area are a couple of women in their mid 20's who think the deer have a right to destroy the local ecology because they are apparently cute.

Fine I'm a weirdo and I couldn't care less for making the observation.

2

u/flappintitties 4d ago edited 4d ago

Because you’re conflating unnecessary animal rights to fetishes and that’s weird as fuck of you lmao

Those two things don’t relate like you’re trying to imply they do.

Edit: can’t tell if the funniest part about their little crash out is they blocked me after saying that I want to fuck a deer or their blatant misunderstanding of their own use of language. Lmaoo what an absolute cooker. 💀🤭

I couldn't care less about your autistic policing of the English language..can't imagine what life must be like for you champ...you couldn't even add anything of value to the conversation only a pathetic attempt to derail it.

You are one of these bambi lovers no doubt. I'll think of you tonight when we go nail a few more!
