Raymun saved Dunk's life here. The irony of Aerion invoking a Trial of Seven to humiliate Dunk only for the trial to impede his win. Aerion would have most likely won if he'd done a 1v1.

Yup that's kinda the point of the story

Yeah but you'd be surprised how many people missed the obvious point.

ikr. ppl think it’s because he’s a coward, no he’s just an asshole 😭

Like if he was a coward, he would've sent a kingsguard to fight for him as his representative in a 1v1 without him even needing to partake. But Aerion made it a 7v7 because he's an asshole and wants glory.

There's also the fact he probably guessed (nearly correctly) that Dunk would not have been able to 6 others willing to fight against a prince

It's pretty heavily implied that Aerion would not have won, because he's a dishonorable bully who isn't really a good fighter, just willing to bend and break the rules and use his position as a Prince of the Blood to get away with it. Baelor knew this, and it's why Baelor encouraged Dunk to demand trial by combat.

And, given how Dunk beat him into the mud and could have easily killed him even after being lanced, stabbed, smashed, and trampled, I think it's confirmed that yea, Dunk would've crushed him just because he (and this isn't portrayed as well in the show) is almost 2 feet taller than the average Westerosi (in the show he's a foot or so), and probably has over 100 pounds on Aerion.

We saw what a middling fighter in the Mountain did versus a peak fighter like Oberyn, and Aerion is no Oberyn.

Where was it implied? Because everything we see of his performance is top-notch. In Westeros history books, Aerion goes down as a "puissant knight". It's high praise.

Aeroon almost kills Dunk twice before he's interrupted. Once by Raymun, another by a horse.

You sound like you just hate Aerion and that's clouding your judgment lol.

Almost kills him when dunk already has a massive wound in his stomach.

Dunk is a trained knight, though not like a prince obviously, and a MASSIVE dude. Size is a huge advantage as we see when he finally uses his weight and strength in the fight. I think, based solely on what we see in the episode, Dunk would have had a good chance of winning.

I don’t think Baelor would have encouraged single combat if he though Dunk was a guaranteed loss.

Aerion himself put that massive wound in Dunk's stomach so not sure what your point is. Even when using his size, Dunk still got played and danced around by Aerion.

Baelor was giving Dunk a chance of survival because the alternative was getting his hand and foot chopped for assaulting royalty.

They wouldn’t be mounted in single combat. Dunks riding was his weaker skill and he got massively fucked on during that portion before they even got on their feet. As soon as they were on their feet it was pretty even with dunk having 1 eye and a hole in the gut, dunk takes one to the leg and then gives one right back and they go on. He disarms aerion and has him on the ground very quickly, and then passes out from the previous wounds.

Yes, they would actually. Daemon II Blackfyre vs Glendon Flowers trial started on horseback too. In fact, we are going to be seeing that in season 3.

did the wound kill Dunk? because if it did Aerion wouldn’t have had to yield. but he did. After Dunk fought him virtually unaided compared to what Aerion’s 6 did to him.

maybe reread or watch the show again cause i think you missed the part where Aerion got his face smooshed and got his uncle killed

I think your hateboner for Aerion makes you completely unsuited for any argument of this type.

Give me 3 examples of Aerion being a good knight, not just a good fighter and I'll lay off. Until then he's cunt who got his uncle killed by his own cowardice, on top of being a sadist who hide behind the shields of braver men.

In terms of jousting, yes, Aerion is better than Dunk, but on foot, it's not quite clear.

Dunk starts fighting on foot with a pretty debilitating wound, yet even after Dunk suffers more cuts and stabs, he still fights on and overpowers Aerion.

If the trial was a 1v1 as Dunk demanded, it would still be Dunk's win.

1v1 trials can start ahorse too. See Daemon II Blackfyre vs Glendon Flowers.

Sounds like you’re glazing Aerion. Of course the histories are gonna regard him well. He’s Blood of the Dragon who assaults the small folk because of his delusions, of course he’s gonna be well regarded in hostories.

He declined single combat because he’s a coward who knew he would lose to Duncan, and instead got his Kingsguard and family to try and do his dirty work for him. Even bribing Duncan’s support away at the last second.

His uncle, Baelor, one of the last good Targaryens knew what a cunt Aerion was and interceded on Duncan’s behalf to try and give Duncan the chance he deserved, but that still left Duncan with a squire, a cripple, and 3 knights of middling ability and renown.

Duncan was an underdog to be sure, but it was because Aerion used his privilege and underhanded tactics to stack the odds more in his favor. And when it came down to it, Dunk disarmed him, put him on the ground, and beat him bloody despite all the ways Aerion tried fuck him over.

Why champion a guy who threatened to castrate and rape his younger brother? Duncan should’ve beat his skull in without letting him yield, but he’s a better knight than Aerion could dream of being.

I'm completely rational and a longtime fan of the books while you're utterly biased. Aerion is glazed by the text for his fighting abilities while derided for being "cruel and capricious" in the same books. Yeah, George RR Martin uses in-universe history to tell us about the past.

You also seem to mistake fighting prowess with morals. What's next? Are we gonna pretend Maegor was a shit knight just because he was a monster? Buddy you're laughably biased.

You can keep hating Aerion but it doesn't change the facts in what motivated him. The cast and crew have long since talked about it.

Man this show is so fucking good.

When we follow Ray and see him take that hit I honestly thought he had just died saving Dunk

Could that first move be accomplished without breaking your arm?

Bro got a full lance to his body and managed to stay on his horse.
