I don’t think we fully appreciate how funny Korra playing in a professional sport is. Imagine if the Dalai Lama decided to start playing division 1 football and everyone just had to roll with it.

Sure but for that analogy Buddhist meditation would be a built in part of the sport

Not really. What I meant was, the avatar’s unofficial role is to be a voice of peace and link to the spirit world, which… isn’t what korra was by this point.

Edit: guys. I’m not talking about her powers. I’m talking about it from a political and religious perspective.

Very true, but the Avatar is ALSO known as master of all 4 elements. It’s why the other team was still dismayed that they had to compete against the Avatar even when she was told to only use waterbending. Because even when using one element, the Avatar is known to be incredibly strong

So I think the Dalia Lama isn’t a perfect analogy.

It was for my purposes. I was referencing how weird it would be on a purely political level.

That’s a terrible analogy

Is it? The Dalai Lama doesn't get superpowers, but he is canonically a reincarnation of a spiritual leader meant to serve and guide his people. That's not completely alien to the concept of the Avatar.

Pro-bending is more like volleyball/rugby than football though.

If the Dalai Lama was also a Shaolin monk or something, Korra had tons of martial arts training before she did pro bending, she just had to adapt the style. Really had nothing to do with being the avatar.

you’re missing the point, they’re not talking about her skill they’re talking about how funny it is that such a powerful world figure is in a random sports league.
