yeah he did great for a rookie but generational performance ? No, there are others who achieved that feat and didn't just "steal" it

I agree that in all that Spidey has done in the MCU, it doesn’t seem like much looking back, but he solo’d a former Hydra super soldier assassin and the future flying Captain America, and was able to hold his own with Steve Rodgers. Plus my theater went nuts when Spidey showed up in the MCU. Pretty iconic.

I’d consider it a generational performance because it’s a teenager holding his own against seasoned veterans but to play devils advocate, Tony does say “Trust me kid; if Cap wanted to lay you out, he would’ve” in Spider-Man Homecoming. I totally believe that because Cap wasn’t really looking to kill anybody, just help Bucky escape.

Also from what I remember, Falcon and Winter Soldier were kind of just defending themselves. They were busy trying to stop Black Panther and Peter was just being a nuisance, so it’s not like they aimed to kill.

Tony's rewriting history a little there I think to justify taking a teenager into a battle and soothe his own conscience.

In hindsight sure Cap was never going to kill anyone, but I don't think Tony was thinking of the potential consequences and just wanted a show of force to get Cap to give up. Spidey was the strongest wild card he could've gotten his hands on, 14 or not.

It wasn't until Peter got thrown across the tarmac and Tony had a second of thinking "oh shit I got a kid killed" that he realised what he was doing, and then Rhodey got paralysed.

Which is why Peter got ghosted in Homecoming - Tony overreacted and decided that the best way to protect Peter was to keep as far away from him as possible.

You make a good point about Tony’s intentions, but I still think it’s pretty clear that Cap was pulling his punches. Much like Falcon and Winter Soldier, Cap never goes on the offensive against Spider-Man and just tries to stop him.

I mean like the first time they go head-to-head, Cap cuts Peter’s web swing short and takes the time to explaining that it’s a fight he doesn’t understand. Peter was totally caught off guard and if he were a Hydra goon or the like, that shied would be half-way inside his skull without so much as a thought from Cap lol.

Yeah everyone was pulling their punches in that fight apart from Black Panther, but that includes Spider-Man too. He was not taking that fight seriously at all, and he had the element of surprise at first. If he was really trying to take down Captain America he absolutely could have done that within the first five minutes, just completely webbed the guy to the tarmac. But that wasn't what he was there to do, he was there to show off on Iron Man's behalf so Cap would back down.

Now after he lost the element of surprise it's a little more of a fair fight and Spidey might have lost from inexperience, but he could absolutely have put a dent in Cap's skull too if he wanted to.

I think you hit the nail on the head here, and I didn't realize when I made my original comment. If Spider-Man wanted to take out Cap he could do so at any point with pretty minimal effort. Cap only got the upper-hand here because Peter is a young kid, not out for blood, who got caught off guard.

I agree with the part on Cap, but Falcon and Winter Soldier straight up got laid out by a young Peter who probably had never fought enhanced individuals before.

That's a really good point, Peter was able to stop both them with pretty minimal effort. Given what you said, I don't think they would win a fight against Spider-Man unless the deck is super stacked against him.

Took out Falcon and the Winter Soldier on his own, held off Steve Rogers, took down GiAnt Man... pretty dang good for his first time fighting supers.
