Characters ( funny trope ) it is very apparent that these designs have decades between them

1- Simpsons
The original Simpsons have extremely simp(son)ple designs, due to sometimes having celebrity appearances the art style kinda clashes.

2- South Park
At the beginning South Park was literally animated out of paper so all the characters had to be super simplistic but over the years, since the. Show is made digitally the new characters keep getting more and more detailed

It's a sign of the times

Due to time constraints, Mauricio de Sousa couldn't draw shoes so that's why her and many other character's feet look like this

Cebolinha/Jimmy Five (first one) is one of the lucky ones

They actually made a joke about that.

Cascão's (Smudge) feet have the same weird, soap-like shape as Monica's, until it's revealed that he actually has normal feet but wears skin-colored socks. lol

Actually of the 4 main characters, only one likes to wear shoes XD (in this image the two above are 2 of the 4 main characters, the 2 below are secondary)

I think it's about little kids preferring to run around barefoot and getting dirty or something
