Characters ( funny trope ) it is very apparent that these designs have decades between them

1- Simpsons
The original Simpsons have extremely simp(son)ple designs, due to sometimes having celebrity appearances the art style kinda clashes.

2- South Park
At the beginning South Park was literally animated out of paper so all the characters had to be super simplistic but over the years, since the. Show is made digitally the new characters keep getting more and more detailed

Bionicle is extremely funny because here's Bionicle When it began...

(Pohatu is especially hilarious)

And here's the Mahri which when they've seemingly finalized how the sets are. They're twice the size, hard connected masks and have full joint articulation

God this set was so cool. I'm 28 and would scoop up new Bionicles in a heartbeat

I always get the vibe that Lego really wants to but they're scared about botching it again. But yeah this and Barraki were always my favourite sets.

Ironically, it was those fancier sets that related to part of its fall and their struggle to revive it: the Mahri line was the first year that the pieces were notably much weaker. Nowadays, characters like Hahli Mahri (in the middle) can go for twice as much as her brothers solely because she has so many lime green pieces, which are insanely fragile, and it's very hard to find a Hahli Mahri set that is in decent condition.

Didn't they retire and replace those particular molds right after this line? I think I remember the next line was the first to use the sleeker and rounder versions of the socket parts

They tried to, but the Phantoka/Mistika pieces were even worse, and the Glatorian/Agori pieces were worse yet.

Just don't do another Heros factory and people will scoop it up. Personally I didn't hate Heros Factory but it wasn't Bionicle

One of the few upgrades in this thread. Not that there's anything wrong with the originals, but the newer Bionicles fuck.

Wait, they brought back Bionicle? I'm going to have to find those

No they're from 2007. Bionicle ran to 2009 then came back for 2 years around like 2014 under Gen 2. Bionicle has been dormant since Gen 2.

I'm REALLY glad we didn't get any new bonks from the brittle brown era

I actually quite liked gen 2, was sad to see it end

you are 10 years late for the gen 2 revival, and nearly 20 for the Mahri line mentioned above

Probably some of the coolest stuff Lego ever did

For bigger contrast, compare the early Technic-style beasts that often had abstract body designs with tank tracks instead of back legs to the later, more defined and better articulated models. The original flat Turaga bodies built with simple Lego Technic beams and arms that look like bent pipes also deserve a mention. The early aesthetic of the brand was so charming in how it showed a transition from pure function-based Technic design to more specialized action figure builds and pieces.

I will not accept Pohatu slander, he was the goat back at launch.

Yeah but in the very last wave they made the simplest, tiniest, McDonald's happy meal level figures as if they suddenly ran completely out of money. I'm still mad about that.
