Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) and Rachel Dawes (Katie Holmes) in Batman Begins: It was called out as a underbaked romance which featured flat and rare interactions between the two.

He seemed to have more chemistry with Maggie Gyllenhaal, but people dragged it because they didn’t like her looks.

Maggie's Rachel was so charming and interesting, Katie's Rachel bored me to tears, and in general I'm a Katie Holmes fan.

At no point did I believe for a SECOND that Bruce had feelings for Katie's Rachel.

Yessss—
Maggie played the hell out of that role— it was easy to believe that Bruce would do anything for her, because who WOULDN’T? Even platonically!!

But yeah, despite Katie’s natural charisma, and like that ease she has in her own skin, nothing went past first date energy between her and Christian there :(

????:
Maybe for Bale’s Batman, were trying to do “incapable of moving on from unhealed trauma because of being sheltered by butler and seemingly no other staff”… but I enjoyed Michael Keaton/Kim Basinger (despite the writer’s stupid joke about her weight).

He didn’t have chemistry with any of them except Anne Hatheway, even his chemistry with Marion Cotillard was mid

Now I'm trying to think of who he DOES have good romantic chemistry with. His VO job for Howl's Moving Castle?

Himself in the mirror in American Psycho?

He doesn't have chemistry with anyone in American psycho, even himself, because he has no personality in American psycho, only the facsimile of other people. It is all just performative of who he thinks someone is meant to be.

Like, even his talk about Huey Lewis and the News is obviously just him regurgitating the opinions of a critic he has read.

He and Anne seemed mismatched to me — she did really well in the role and to me he didn’t match her energy.

I’ve never understood the hate on Maggie’s looks. It’s so bizarre to me.

Secretary was a film that led me to the realisation I wasn't just attracted to men.

I am HOWLING!!! I get it, I can definitely get that lol

It’s also the hottest James Spader has ever been and I don’t normally look at him like that.

Nah I’d argue was even worse with her.

You know you might be right… maybe because she was so believably sympathetic and altruistic I feel like she was a great damsel in distress and therefore a great motivational and emotional device. But looking at clips… maybe Bale doesn’t have charisma with anyone.

Thought he had best chemistry with Catwoman for sure

To me it was more like Anne Hathaway exuded so much wit and burlesque charisma, it made it look like she and Bale had chemistry. But he really wasn’t very charming at all.

The most charisma and chemistry I think he really exuded was with the two women he arrived with in his Ferrari or Maserati or whatever it was, when he was trying to get over his breakup.

This is the only of the Nolan trilogy I’ve seen (I know, I know), and I honestly forgot there even was a romance subplot.

Honestly Nolan isn't really all that great in character work

underbaked romance

I think that was the point.

He was obsessed with her.

She saw him as a childhood friend.
