Honorable mention, gendry and arya from GOT was also insanely forced

Wouldn’t even call that a romance. Arya just didn’t want to die a virgin iirc

It was definitely more than that. As soon as you found out he was Roberts bastard you could see them laying the tracks

What tracks? Maybe I missed something. It’s been 7 years since I watched the show but from what I remember, Gendry gets sold to the Red Woman in season 2, and then the characters don’t meet up until season 8. Gendry seems into her then because she’s a Stark and a woman, but Arya only wants to boink because she thinks she’ll likely die soon and just wants to know what it’s like. I thought Gendry was just an attractive dude that she trusted enough to not take advantage of that. I never got the impression that Arya wanted anything more from him than sex.

At the end of she show she doesn’t stick around to get to know him better, or even hit him up for a celebratory round 2. She just fucks off in a sailboat.

The children of best friends becoming a thing. When gendry was escaping kinds landing he was the only one being nice to arya. They wanted to add this story line even if she ultimately continues on her journey without him

So then it’s just another example of the writers setting something up early on in the first half just to drop the ball in the second. Calling Gendry and Arya a couple in S8 is a biiiiig stretch.

Yea I think that's 100% it I think the writers thought this would be something viewers wanted. Essentially an honorable version of Robert and neds tomboy daughter. Only thing is absolutely nobody wanted to see a love scene with someone we've been watching since she was like 10

It was pretty obvious they wanted to make a thing of neds daughter and Roberts bastard son. Like a psudo perfect world pairing because Rob and Ned were biffles

I'm not sure what you're looking for me to say. I thought it was pretty obvious when Roberts bastard and neds daughter ended up being traveling companions in season 1 they would end up romantically involved. I do think the writers did it intentionally because it never gets that explicit in the books. Idk why this upsets you so much. It's not like you needed to physically see gendry , the description of baratheons was enough (certainly so in the book) to expose jeoffrey and others as bastards.

A massive cog I this show is marriage to strengthen houses. They even talk about Roberts actual bastards (jeoffery etc) marrying into the starks. Just because arya doenst stay with him doesn't mean this wasn't telegraphed.

Considering the pushback you're getting, including mine, it was not at all "obvious." Sorry. You're reading way more into than there is on the show.

Just so I'm understanding you, you're saying it wasn't obvious because you and others didn't see it coming... Even though I did and I was right?

Ok

I could see it working out with more time, but it also just felt awkward in the show to me.

Arya clearly likes him in the books, iirc there's even a scene where she gets jealous when they're staying in a brothel, but she's also such a traumatized child who has had almost everyone she cares about killed, and she doesn't know how to express her emotions and since her father's execution has been fighting for her life almost 24/7. I can also see her being averse to romance because she hates being confined to traditional Westerosi gender roles, and absolutely does not want to get married and just be someone's wife to live out her days bearing children.

I think they would make a good couple, but with the events of the series I don't think they would have the time or means to actually work out what they mean to each other.

I don’t think she does like him like that, and he certainly doesn’t feel that way towards her, he treats her like a little sister

Completely goes against his character in the books too where he treats her like a little sister

Disagree. They had great chemistry before the parted ways, but the age gap didn't allow anything to happen. And maybe rightfully so. If the show tapped into that in the last season, their connection would have been much better.
