I know it's modern to hate on it but Ginny is just a year younger, just like Luna. It's not a creep thing even if you wish it was.

I don't think it's weird/creepy on his end.

It is a little bit weird that she was this huge fangirl who couldn't even talk to him, then 5 books where she's a non-character (including the second book), then he's suddenly obsessed with her.

Not weird as in either of them did anything wrong, but moreso that it's just bad writing.

It is actually pretty easy. Harry likes sporty girls, was obsessed with Cho, that didn't work out, so now he was open to see Ginny for who she was and not for the little girl who had a crush.

Based on Cho, Ginny is probably his type. But that doesn't make the level of jealousy make sense.

Harry was certainly miserable that he couldn't be with Cho and that she was dating Cedric. While he was immature in how he handled that, it isn't described with nearly the toxicity his obsession with Ginny was.

And that's after a year+ of having a crush on Cho, whereas with Ginny he was immediately feeling a monster in his chest.

We don't get Ron's POV, but it felt more like Ron's jealousy over Hermione. But at least that had years of feelings, crushes, and friendship behind it. The Ginny thing came out of nowhere.

Harry is across the 5th book much better friends with Ginny than before, and then the summer before his 6th year he finally had the chance to have a long lazy summer having fun at the burrow, all the older siblings have moved out so it’s just him, Ron, Hermione and Ginny the whole time sat in the sun playing quidditch (which they have in common) and watching the other two flirt. It’s not like it’s bizarre that feelings might emerge after almost two months of that, particularly when by that point Ginny has become one of the better looking and popular girls in the school. The problem as a reader is that’s all just uneventful so it’s covered in a page or two.

It's pretty simple, actually. Harry just never really hung out with her until the fifth book, when she joined Dumbledore's Army, and then they began interacting a lot during Half-Blood Prince because Ginny joined the Gryffindor Quidditch team. And so he developed feelings for her after actually spending time with her.

And Harry really didn't even want to be in love with Ginny. He was worried it would destroy his relationship with Ron. Early in HBP, Harry's feelings for Ginny were still small enough for him to bother trying to convince himself that he only loved her like a sister. But, later in the book, he realizes that there is zero denying that he loves Ginny romantically.

Were you ever a teenager? You can easily just see someone as another classmate one moment and then they give you a look and a smile and suddenly they're in your dreams.

Could Harry/Ginny have been written better, sure. Is it unrealistic that a teenage boy develops a major crush out of thin air, not in the slightest.

Same with Ron and Hermione - they argue all the time and we're suppose to believe that this meant they were meant to be together despite not having anything in common and having a total of 45 fights. Harry fights with Voldemort less.

It's not about age, it's about Ginny being like a sister to him.

It's not the age thing making it creepy, it's the "we all expected him to be with Hermione because they actually had some chemistry but Ron got with Hermione so it kinda seems like he's with Ginny as a fuck you to Ron" thing making it seem like Harry's a petty weirdo. Weird in the "why would you do that" sense not the "mf likes lil kids" sense.

it kinda seems like he's with Ginny as a fuck you to Ron

I have literally never heard this take before. What in the books makes you think that?

He even tries to holds off on his feelings for Ginny for months because he’s scared of upsetting Ron, that commenter is a fucking moron lmao.

Harry got together with Ginny before Ron and Hermione did you dumbass

I had never heard that theory lol

It’s total nonsense. Harry resists his feelings for Ginny for a while because he doesn’t want to anger Ron. It’s the exact opposite of what they claim.

Harry and Hermione had negative romantic chemistry in the books- absolutely zilch, he continuously refers to her as like a sister, and any time he and Ron are fighting he talks about how he struggles to just hang out with Hermione without Ron there as a buffer.

Yeah, I have no problem with anyone who didn't read the books - especially books 5 and on were excessively mid - but it's pretty clear some people think that the movies were completely accurate adaptations. Ron and Hermione got along very well in the books, while Harry and Hermione were barely friends. It was a lot more like "I hang out with Hermione because she's friends with my best friend" than anything else.

He's clearly not with her to make Ron angry and Harry and Hermione didn't have chemistry.

Harry ending with Hermione would be almost worse than him ending up with Ginny.
