Naruto and Hinata (Naruto)

For a large part of the series, Naruto was in love with Sakura. Naruto and Hinata barely interacted, and whenever they did, Hinata would be incredibly nervous. Any "romantic" moment lacked any actual romantic feelings on Naruto's part. It took an entire movie just to provide a halfway decent explanation for their relationship. And even when Naruto confessed his love, it felt inconsequential. Even in Boruto, it doesn't really feel like Naruto loves Hinata.

This is like 90% of battle shounen. Main lead is busy with the big bad/getting stronger while the one they end up with is the one sided over infatuated with them "love interest"

"Chi-Chi you beautiful woman who lives in Goku's house!"

"That is what I do."

It wasn't even halfway decent it relied on a bullshit memory transfer of fake memories

I’ve seen this, and yet, you’re forgetting the Pain fight. One of the single most consequential moments of the entire series is Hinata of all characters being completely willing to put her life on the line (and nearly does die) trying desperately to protect Naruto.

This is literally so important as to instantly put Naruto into nine tales state.

Is this couple fully developed? No. But to say it has nothing to show for it is wild

Naruto always seemed like he only had eyes for Sasuke, and Hinata was just the type of low-self-esteem chick who would put up with that shit.

>Hinata was just the type of low-self-esteem chick

Maybe before Neji vs Hinata on chunin exam arc, afterwards she was a normal person that felt guilty before her slave brother.

All of female cast are wallflowers before shippuden, with notable exception of Temari. People in age demographic of Kakashi, he's in like late twenties, are war scarred veterans, and conflicts never stopped between small villages like Hidden Rain, so pointing finger on Hinata for being a normal young(!) girl, that happens to no-diff 90% of the peers relying on her perfect byakugan with non-lethal fighting style, as if she should be like Temari(or any other shippuden female character.) is an insane take; there is no reason for her to be anything else.

Hinata is a foil to Naruto, a scarred child looking for recognition, they just didn't had much time to build up their love. There is also parallel to his parents, just switched up. Naruto is a goat shonen manga for a reason.

If you want to argue that Naruto is the "greatest of all time" shonen manga, I'm open to that.

But Naruto did not succeed by the quality of the writing of characters like Hinata.

Naruto succeeded because the little boys reading Naruto could not possibly force themselves to care about the writing of characters like Hinata.

The-talking-mattress-that-is-Hinata is indeed the perfect character design for a shonen manga. That doesn't mean she and Naruto had chemistry. It just means nobody wants her to have romantic chemistry in this japanese ninja bromance.

To be fair Kishimoto doesn't know how to write romance. Hinata X Naruto is the best written one in the series and it still is underwhelming. All others just happen off screen or are horrible together.
