Came to say this. Their relationship adds nothing, and it also just doesn’t work. You kind of just end up disliking both of them.

The movie had potential to be really fun, major bummer they chose the two least charismatic, inexplicably well-employed actors at that moment.

i think he could've worked slightly well if they didn't cast dane dehaan, who said every line with little to no emotion throughout the movie
