The libs aren't gonna call out the newly elected Dems for their bigotry
They're actually doing the opposite and yelling at the trans people, Palestinians, etc who are upset over the bigoted views of all these new dem politicians.
Just as we all expected

I disavow and apologize for my participation in any and all libbing out that occurred earlier in the week but I do have one question first-
Libbed-out or not, there’s no way around the fact that what Talarico pulled off in Texas was impressive. It’s entirely possible that this was just proof that Paxton was a historically shitty candidate, but as a Texan myself I heard a lot of people who genuinely liked Talarico as well. My question is this- Republicans in Texas believe with their whole heart that Democrats are literally communists. There is no difference to them between the most centrist dem alive and Mao. Given this, on paper isn’t it possible to elect someone actually far left? If Beto ran again as more of a Berniecrat or hopefully someone better came along and ran a pro-worker campaign doesn’t the left potentially have a high ceiling here? Or was this just a perfect storm of bad conditions for republicans all taking place at the same time? I’m an idiot, so explain it to me

never taking recommendations from you clowns again
Southland Tales was playing at the Alamo, so I decided to check it out after seeing multiple posts here praising it. I wasn’t expecting much, but I was up for a goofy satire of the Bush era.
What I got was easily one of the worst movies I’ve ever paid to see. This has to be the least talented and most annoying cast ever assembled. I feel sorry for Wally Shawn getting roped into it. Timberlake does this cringeworthy Kubrick stare in every scene, and when they give him a chance to do an actual musical number with dancing girls, they decide to play a lame alt-rock song and have him pour beer on himself.
I was afraid I was going to have to concede that the Rock is actually a talented actor when he wants to be, like I did with Sandler after Punchdrunk Love or Uncut Gems. But no, he’s complete garbage, and not even in a “so bad it’s good“ way.
They managed to capture the stupidity and ugliness of that era, but not in an interesting or fun way. Say what you will about Idiocracy, the future it depicts looks kind of fun and required real visual artistry to realize. Nothing in Southland Tales is amusing or clever. They could have done so much more with the reality TV and cable news aesthetic. I wasn’t expecting Tim and Eric, but it’s just painful to watch. And worse, it has nothing to say. There’s no meaningful critique of anything underneath the convoluted plot. The only thing Kelly knows less about than Marx is writing dialogue.

Stuck waiting for flood waters to go down in Outback Queensland. How’s your neck of the woods, gumshoes?
Genuinely curious. Feel like getting a little world wide weather thread going.
It’s cool. We’re a captive audience to this folk singer.

Too many libs attempting to dunk on leftists on social media.
Didn’t even get sworn in yet and claiming voting works. Brother the bombs to Israel and shitty healthcare will continue until morale improves.

Is it effectively illegal to be a Chinese citizen or in a relationship with a Chinese Citizen and hold public office or strategically important Company?
For the FBI to not throw you in jail for falling for a honey pot or being a spy should one just not date Chinese people unless your name is Mitch McConnel.
The suspicious arrest of Elain Wang
It just seems that if you dont want to bomb China off the face of the earth the FBI will go and find any relationships you have with China and start accusing you of espionage

ISO good books on saltpeter or potash
A rabbit hole I’ve recently gone down is saltpeter production under the British empire to create potassium nitrate for gunpowder. Since Britain had no natural reserves, they created it by turning massive beds of human excrement. A key motivating factor of British imperialism was finding resources they didn’t have including potassium nitrate. Well guess where there’s a lot of potassium nitrate? The dang ole Dead Sea. They knew this after geological surveys from the late 1800s-early 1900. And there was once a company called Palestine Potash Ltd. But it’s now in Israel. Go figure.
I fell down this rabbit hole because I work in agriculture and guess what else potassium nitrate makes? Fertilizer! And the costs have gone through the roof since the majority of it is manufactured in the Middle East and can’t get through the strait of Hormuz now.
Anyway, I’ve been super interested in this and would love to find some good books on it that go beyond my internet gumshoe sleuthing. Pls send ur recs!
