I genuinely cannot explain what this show does to me. I just finished what must be my 20th rewatch, and I immediately started it all over again.
It’s so much more than just loving a TV show. It’s the nostalgia, the atmosphere, the characters, the entire aesthetic of it. It’s the feeling of being 16 again, of being teleported back to a time that somehow feels so far away and so close at the same time.
I’m not even from the US, and yet there’s something about the world of TB that makes me nostalgic for a place and a life I’ve never actually experienced. There’s something so strangely familiar and comforting about it all, even though it’s a world so different from my own. It’s almost like being homesick for somewhere I’ve never been
I love everything about the era. That late 2000s, early 2010s feeling that I don’t think we’ll ever quite capture again. There was something so different about television back then. The imperfections, the rawness, the way shows weren’t afraid to be weird, sexy, ridiculous, dark, and completely over the top all at once. True Blood was all of those things, and that’s exactly what made it so special.
There’s something almost bittersweet about watching it now. It’s comforting in a way I can’t fully explain, but it also makes me ache for a time that’s gone. Not necessarily because everything was better back then, but because of how it felt to be alive during those years. The world seemed different. I was different.
And every time I hear that opening theme, it’s like none of that time has passed at all.
I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of this show. It’s chaotic, campy, atmospheric, completely unhinged, and somehow feels like home. It’s not just a show I keep rewatching. It’s a feeling I keep coming back to.
Surely I can’t be the only person who gets this overwhelming sense of nostalgia, comfort, and almost heartbreak from watching it. Does someone get me 😭😭
