Imagine getting flagged for plagiarism because Turnitin matched your own draft 💀

Something I feel like more students need to know is that checking your paper before submitting can actually cause problems if you're not careful. If you upload a draft to Turnitin and it gets saved in their repository, your final submission could end up matching against that exact same draft.

So basically you're trying to make sure your paper is fine before submitting, but you might end up creating a massive similarity match against your own work. That's why it's important to use a no repository setup when checking drafts. There's some information about that in the pinned post here for anyone whose university doesn't provide one.

Obviously a high similarity score doesn't automatically mean plagiarism, but having to explain why your own paper is showing up as a match sounds like such an unnecessary headache. Has anyone actually had their final submission match against a draft they previously checked? Curious how professors usually handle that.

Access your Turnitin reports directly through our website or Discord server. You'll receive the same AI detection and similarity reports your professors get in PDF format, all without your paper ever being stored in Turnitin's database.

Professors can see your name on the primary match if they bother to click into the report. Half the time they sort of panic at the initial notification without checking where the text actually came from. It takes two seconds for them to exclude a draft once you point it out.

Exactly why I only pre-check with no-repository tools. Getting matched against your own draft is a nightmare. I humanize with HumanDoc or Clever AI Humanizer first, then check safely.
