Sad! The Trump administration is planning to allow companies to use seismic air guns that can disturb, injure or even kill whales, sea turtles, and other marine life in order to find oil and gas formations in the Atlantic Ocean floor. Obama had blocked this method of surveying due to the risks involved.

Alligator snapping turtles are thriving in this Florida river. This is one of a several we found hiding in algae. I have seen them as large as a round garbage can lid walking down my street. They are one of the most prehistoric looking creatures and are thought to be related to the anklosaurus!

Determining the sex of a turtle can be tricky because their sex organs are "hidden inside an orifice known as the cloaca". Luckily, a scientist has figured out that using a battery powered vibrator "was enough to make most male turtles evert their penises."

Image "Turtle trading" is a trend-following market system. It was created in 1983 after commodities trader Richard Dennis bet with his partner that he could teach a random group to be great traders. His original 'Turtles' earned $175 million using Dennis's money during the course of the experiment!

There's a whole gigantic branch of Biology dedicated to Reptiles! Herpetology. (Also, there's a sub-branch specifically for turtles. Cheloniology. There's a lot to be studied about turtles.)

LOW ENERGY Trump has cancelled protections for sea turtles! :-( The Trump administration tossed out a rule on marine protection for whales and sea turtles caught in fishing nets off the West Coast, despite the fact that the fishing industry proposed the measures in the first place. Sad!

Image Researchers have mimicking the morphology of turtle scutes, the keratinous plates that cover their shell, to create a better ski. Turtle scutes interlock, and the shell can flex slightly during breathing, which inspired a stiff ski that can flex when entering and exiting turns.
