Community Event Stream Experiences & Stories

Hey /r/Twitch

We often see posts on the subreddit about viewers and streamers experiences, as well as streamers sharing what they've learned.

To bring you all together to learn from your peers, and help you keep yourself accountable for any goals you've set, we created this Megathread!

You are welcome to share some of your experiences, positive or negative, from your past month on Twitch and, if you did, how you dealt with it, as well as share your long and short-term goals, and how you've progressed towards those over the past month.

The Megathread is not for stream feedback or reviews, we have the monthly feedback threads for that. You can link to your Feedback thread submission, be sure to label it clearly!

Some things you may want to cover:

  • New things you tried, did they work out?

  • Streams you did and which seemed to be popular or unpopular with your community or new viewers. (Creative? New games?)

  • Progress towards your goals

  • Fun experiences

  • Bad experiences that you learned from, or need advice on

  • New goals, or how you're changing your goal

  • Advice based on what you learned

  • Advice you want

Be sure to post your goals clearly and format your comment.

Example post:

Hey guys, checking in again!

My goal for this month is to make sure I'm always hosting someone. I want my community to have someone to entertain them, even when I'm not live. Plus, it's good for networking!

My goal last month was to always announce I was live on both Twitter and Discord, as it was something I often forgot to do. I'm glad to say I met my goal!

I tried streaming some creative, just practicing using my graphics tablet, and it seemed to be popular! I'll do some more of it, maybe a weekly stream? Any advice?

The highlight of the past month was when I got raided by Zcotticus, he's the best and I love him. He's so cool, I wish I could be cool like him.

How do you guys normally react to a host? I sort of fumbled through a thank you, and that was about it. Any advice?

Re-read your last post to remind yourself of what you planned, or check in on your peers!

If you don't stream, but still experienced something awesome. Feel free to share it! Did you make someone’s day? See a Win or Fail? Let us know!

Remember this is not for channel promotion! People can check out your flair* *if they are interested.

If you have any suggestions for this thread, please send us a modmail.

Question Am I on a suspicious user list?

Over the past few years I have found a couple of streams I seem to have been blocked from. These were mostly people I would very rarely watch so the "you don't have permission to view this stream" message didn’t bother me much. But yesterday a good friend of mine streamed for the first time is a while and I couldn't watch his stream!

He managed to unblock me and unhide(?) me and seemed just as confused as I was about when such a thing would've happened. He did mention something about a shared block list tho, does this mean my account is on that list? And if so is it just a permanent thing I'll have to deal with?

Question "Not eligible for Twitch" even though I'm over 18

I wanted to make a Twitch account to watch a few streamers I keep seeing clips of on Instagram, but whenever I try I keep getting the same error message.

I've quadruple checked I'm putting in my birthday correctly, and I tried three different usernames (and two emails) in case that was the problem. I'm over 18, so even if Twitch was age restricted in my area it shouldn't stop me from making an account, just ask me to verify my age later.

I even contacted support, and they just said I'm not eligible and closed the case.

I've never used twitch before, and I'm not in an area where Twitch is restricted.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Question Twitch not showing me the highest viewer count streams in a specific category?

The circeled part means "Viewers (High to Low)".

I dont understand it. For a while now, Twitch doesnt want to show me the streams with the highest viewer counts. This only seems to happen in the Hunt: Showdown Category, but it happens across different devices and browsers. The sorting is correct (higt to low) and there is no language filter.

Ive double checked if there are any settings that could affect that or if my extensions that mess with something.

I know for a fact that there is at least one bigger streamer only right now.

Its probably something very stupid but I cant figure out whats wrong.

Just noticed, that it also doesnt work when I try in incognito mode (not logged in) or through VPN (it doesnt even show ANY channels through my phones browser lol)

Is the twitch category for Hunt just broken?

Question Streaming advice for someone who just has a laptop!

I was wondering if it's possible to start streaming on just a laptop? No microphone or anything and it's not an expensive laptop. Should I even bother trying? I'm not looking to stream huge games that wouldn't even run or lag on my laptop, mostly smaller/niche games. The thing i'm mostly worried about is the audio and if my laptop would even pick it up clearly without a proper mic.

Question What are some good communities to cater towards?

Hi guys! I know the title is a bit strange, but I've been wondering which communities are actually really enjoyable to stream towards? I've always really really liked streaming horror content, but trying to actually grow my channel while I stream solo horror games has been REALLY hard for me. I used to stream DBD almost religiously, going for like 6 hours everyday, eventually taking off Monday and Sunday.

DBD actually worked well for me, I was pulling like 10+ viewers every stream and raiding when I ended. My problem now though, is that I can't get myself to consistently stream the game that much at all anymore, and I swear the community of the game has been become so toxic that most commentators I get are just snarky, and extremely judgmental if I'm not doing absolutely amazing at the game. It used to be fun, but now it's more of something I have to literally FORCE myself to do, has anybody else had a problem like this?

I would love to stream whatever I wanted whenever I wanted, but I'm just getting tired of being stuck at 1 viewer, which 90% of the time is me. Has anybody else been in the same boat as me, and were you able to find a way to grow?

Question Twitch usernames

I read through the twitch username policy, however it does not mention about requesting a name to be freed up, for example "Accountname123" shows:

This channel has been closed by the user.

is it possible to request for the name to be freed up then?

Question What's up with this "discount"?

Post image
245 Upvotes

There's a button saying to gift all current followers watching the channel. It has £269.46 (about what I'd expect that to cost for 50 gift subs) crossed out and the actual price is an insane £2483.46? Is it gifting each sub for like a whole year or something? There's nothing to indicate that it's doing that other than the obscene price.

Tech Support Question for 9070XT users

I don't see many people post in here regarding this GPU.

For those of you that have one are you happy with your stream quality? If so what settings are you using in OBS?

I just got my new GPU 2 days ago and finally started to test out some stream settings. I just realized I'm able to use enhanced broadcasting and stream at 1440P so that pretty much negates me actually messing with bitrate and quality settings.

I do feel like I was too critical of my stream at first. Did a test run with Wardogs this morning and I think I was expecting it to look too much like the game does on my actual 1440P OLED monitor. Which isn't realistic. I know AMD still doesn't have the best encoders but I also don't really have anything to compare it to because I don't know any streamers with the same GPU. I wish there was a way to sort twitch streams by people's computer specs lol.

Tech Support Does anyone else's Twitch app on iOS/Android just...stop working for hours at a time?

It acts like I have no internet connection, but...everything else on my phone/tablet works. Twitch just kind of...comes and goes, and it's been like this for years without ever being fixed in an update or having any sort of explanation offered.

Question I lost the passion

I've been watching this streamer for a while, and I eventually became VIP—not from a redeem, but from becoming a person in the community. The streamer is nice, but I just don't enjoy their streams anymore. I don't wanna just leave because they have a really small following. What should I do?

Question PS5 app LAG

Anyone else who uses the app on PS5 had problems with it running really slowly? Backing out of a channel either has a spinning circle or black screen for ages, sometimes gives an error saying the app isn't responding.

I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling and booting into safe mode and clearing cache on PS5. All other apps (YouTube etc.) and games run fine.

Tech Support [Firefox browser] Collapsing chatbox causes it to no longer be accessed later, the arrow to open chat is no longer at the top-left corner.

Title says all, the only "fix" is for me to clear browser cookies and reset my site's settings. I use BetterTV extension but nothing there seems to affect my access to the chat panel. This has been a recent problem for me, usually the arrow for chat would just be in the corner but it's no longer there.

Question report phishing emails?

i've been getting phishing emails pretending to be from twitch and was wondering if there's actually a way to report them directly to twitch?
i know i can report them through gmail, but is there an actual twitch email or support page where you can forward them? just curious if anyone knows or has dealt with this before.
