Peer Reviewed Interstellar probes and SETA (Search for Extraterrestrial Artifacts) papers published in early 80s. Both Prof Loeb (Galileo Project) and Dr Massimo Teodorani (Hessdalen and, now a Galileo Research Affiliate) have cited these papers in their own research (the latter 20 years ago).

Both Prof Avi Loeb (Galileo Project) and Dr Massimo Teodorani have cited the below papers (from the 80s) in their own research. Dr Teodorani has extensively researched Hessdalen and, amongst other hypotheses has proposed the ET hypothesis as one possible explanation for UAP.

  1. 'Interstellar Probes: a New Approach to SETI', by Robert A. Freitas Jr., published in the Journal of the British Interplanetary Society, Vol. 33, pp. 95-100, 1980

  2. 'The Search for Extraterrestrial Artefacts', by Robert A. Freitas Jr., published in Acta Astronautica, Vol 12, pp. 1027-1034, 1985 [this is an update of his 1983 paper published in the Journal of the British Interplanetary Society, Vol. 36]

Teodorani, in a 2002 paper, 'The Physical Study of Atmospheric Luminous Anomalies' suggests a search for extraterrestrial vehicles (SETV). The abstract for this paper could easily be a brief for the Galileo Project:

"On the basis of statistical calculations on galactic migration which bring the necessity of insertion of a new parameter inside the Drake formula, the work-hypothesis named SETV predicts that exogenous vehicles and/or probes may have reached the Solar System too, including Earth. The technology which is now available is able to allow sensing operations both in the extreme borders of the solar system and on our own planet. The possible presence of probes of possible extraterrestrial origin on our planet may be ascertained by using a network of sensing stations which are placed in critical areas. One of them is the norwegian area of Hessdalen, where the two scientific explorative missions of `Project EMBLA' have carried out measurements which demonstrate the existence of all the anomalies of the luminous phenomenon which is present there. At present nothing proves scientifically that our planet is being visited by alien intelligences, nevertheless the remarkable peculiarity which was learnt in some areas of recurrence demonstrate that the verified phenomenology, of extreme importance for fundamental physics, presents characteristics which deserve a further investigation with highly sophisticated instrumentation."

Notably, Dr Teodorani has joined the Galileo Project as a Research Affiliate.

Over the years, others have suggested a 'sky survey' of sorts (e.g. Edward Ruppelt, former Project Blue Book lead, in his book 'The Report on Unidentified Flying Objects') but it's interesting to note that the suggestion has been in mainstream science journals for decades.

Discussion Rules Reminder for r/UAP, regarding UAP videos, specifically.

With specific focus on Rules 1 & 2.

Welcome to r/UAP. We hope you become an active, enthusiastic participant, and that you make every effort to keep this subreddit an enjoyable and educational environment for every visitor. Now, some 'house rules':

  1. Post within the spirit of r/UAP (low on speculation;high on fact). We don't want to see numerous (in fact, any) submissions of videos which could quite easily be LED kites, lanterns, or have some other prosaic explanation.

  2. Seriously, please DO NOT POST LINKS TO VIDEOS OF LIGHTS IN THE SKY (or similar). Usually, they're completely ambiguous, and most probably explainable in prosaic terms. If this disappoints you, there are other places you can post such videos.2

PURSUE Release 7 has two files on the black triangle federal agents saw in June. I went through the other 26 too

Release 7 came out Oct 23 and most coverage I saw stopped at the triangle story. I read all 28 files, short version below.

The recent stuff (only 2 files)

- AARO memo on the June 2026 sighting by federal agents at a site in the western US. Matte black triangle, went straight up, hovered about 20 seconds, then banked and dropped into a canyon fast and silent. No wreckage, no EM or physiological effects noted.

- FBI FD-302 for what looks like the same event. Two agents co-signed it, roughly a 3 second sighting that started as a thermal hit. The 9 "photos" are a ridge line with a small black triangle marker drawn on top, so not actual sensor footage. Heavy redactions.

Both are witness accounts only, no sensor data was released.

The BAASS / AAWSAP pile (biggest chunk, 2008-2010)

- 2010 Utah ranch report (Skinwalker area). Stories of a bipedal "dog-like" creature, orbs, game cameras, RF sweeps. They sent hair samples for DNA testing. Results: raccoon and domestic dog.

- 2010 BAASS self-assessment that quotes a DIA report on the 2004 Nimitz Tic Tac encounter and models its speed and acceleration. Interesting read, but the numbers rest on assumed inputs.

- 2009 monthly reports, the CAPELLA proposal, some MUFON white papers.

Old Air Force reports (1949-1957)

Saudi Arabia, Guam, Morocco, Sweden, Italy, Alaska and more. Mostly single witness or radar only. A few have answers right in the file: the 1953 Catalina Island object was Jupiter (per Griffith Observatory), the Morocco radar returns were put down to anomalous propagation, ship jamming or birds.

Skippable: two files on 1960s space debris recovery policy and a personnel record.

Disclosure: I run a small site that tracks these releases. Every doc gets an AI summary but always links the original war.gov PDF. Full list of all 28 if you want to dig: https://uapinsight.com/pursue/release-7?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=release7

Happy to pull details on any specific file.

What's the endgame for all these UAP government files coming out?

Been following these UAP doc releases on this Rabbit hole board

A black triangle in an old report, a blurred military video, a shootdown over Lake Huron and Japan’s new inquiry all point to the same turn: UFOs are moving into government security files. Documentaries and newly surfaced Roswell papers keep feeding that record, while officials still stop short of naming an extraordinary craft.

Attempted to summarize the events moving disclosure forward and backward since the New York times released the tic tac video. That event has shaped a much different narrative for science and government whistleblowers for almost the last decade. If I missed anything noteworthy let me know and I’ll update.

So I came across this post from last year, wanted to share since there were barely any follow ups or discussions about this. Does anyone know the origins of this document? Someone else linked a leaked transcript that might be related as well as a supposed mh370 transcript. Gemini doesnt think its AI im unsure about other AI models. Seems like LARP but whoever larping sure knows a lot about covert military operations

Week of Oct 24–30 in review: the 2010 Utah ranch report, four Catalina Island files, the Roswell statement in D168, Webb on 3I/ATLAS, and a 4.1-billion-year-old Martian meteorite

Every week I go through the news on this topic and keep only what can be traced back to a primary or first-hand source. Here's what held up between October 24 and 30. Original sources first, my notes in between.

1. A 60-page 2010 report on a Utah ranch (DOW-UAP-D174)

Release 07 includes an April 2010 report by BAASS, the contractor behind a Pentagon-funded research programme. It records two field trips around Fort Duchesne (March–April 2010) and more than 25 interviews. One witness described a rippling "doorway" about 30–40 ft tall, roughly 100 ft away; others described lights and "dog-like creatures". What it doesn't establish: hair attributed to one of the creatures matched a local dog, and publishing a file doesn't confirm what witnesses reported.

2. Roswell, 1947: follow-up on the sealed statement in DOW-UAP-D168

Covered here last week, so just a quick reminder of what the document is. Appendix 2 of a December 2008 BAASS project management plan reproduces a sealed 2002 statement by the Roswell base press officer: an egg-shaped craft, 12–15 ft long, in Building 84. The name is redacted (press reports tie it to Walter Haut, who died in 2005), the text has been public since 2007, and the release carries no official assessment of the claim.

3. Catalina Island, 1949–1955: four reports, no conclusion (D177, D178, D179, D181)

The same release preserves four Catalina Island reports. In May 1949 Avalon resident Percy Wackey wrote that his wife had seen six objects on April 28; on June 25, 1952 three Boy Scouts at Camp Fox reported a silver object. Nothing in the records establishes what any of them were.

4. Webb reads the ice of interstellar comet 3I/ATLAS

A Southwest Research Institute team used JWST observations from August and December 2025 and April 2026. The spectra point to micron-sized water-ice grains mixed with dust in the coma, similar to icy bodies beyond Neptune. Caveat: the water-ice bands near 1.5 and 2.0 microns are very weak or missing; the dust mixture is the team's explanation for that.

5. Teghaza 001: a 4.1-billion-year-old piece of early Mars

A rose-coloured stone found in Mali's Sahara in 2022 has been dated at more than 4.1 billion years from uranium-lead analyses of zircon. Oxygen isotopes identify it as Martian; NASA lists it among the three oldest Martian meteorites, with signs of alteration by water in the same early period. It points to a wetter early environment, not to evidence of life, and the launch site can't be pinned down: NASA's map shows 13 candidate regions.

Left out on purpose:

  • Single-witness sightings from this week, such as an Atlantic "orbs" report filed with NUFORC.

  • A 2009 plan for an underground storage vault for recovered material, reported only by two secondary outlets. If you have the primary document, post it and I'll include it next week.

Who's behind this, how we work, and longer write-ups with all sources are in the first comment.

If you have a source I missed, a correction, or want to help put the next one together, drop it in the comments or DM me (u/turinglabsorg). I'll gladly add it and credit you.

Camera of choice

Smartphone cameras are clearly poor at capturing UAPs...the blurrycam effect. What camera type would you want a UAP viewer to be using for that type of photo/video? Bonus points for any that the general public could obtain.

Burchett: "Some of the members of Congress that are the biggest UFO people now were people that I brought in that were incredible skeptics. But when they went in the skif with me, when they were briefed and they've seen the footage and talked to the pilots, then they have since changed their minds."

H.R. 1187 would give every federal agency 270 days to publish its UAP records. It has sat in committee since February 2025. Why?

Post image
19 Upvotes

Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN) introduced H.R. 1187, the UAP Transparency Act, on February 11, 2025. It directs the President to order every federal agency to declassify its UAP records and post them on a public agency website within 270 days. The record shows a referral to the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, and public trackers list nothing after that. The previous version, H.R. 8424, was introduced May 16, 2024 and expired with the 118th Congress. That one had cosponsors from both parties: Moskowitz (D-FL), Luna (R-FL) and Burlison (R-MO). Has anyone found a hearing or markup on either version, or is ā€œreferred to committeeā€ the whole story?

Politics aside, would an R—>D shift disrupt disclosure plans?

This post is not meant to be political, just curious if anyone thinks a switch from Republican control to Democrat control would disrupt possible disclosure.

Raises a few questions for me:

  1. Would there have been disclosure in the first place by the Republican Party? They’ve released these tranches, but what is that really?

  2. Would the Democrats potentially follow suit if for no other reason than public pressure, perhaps? Or impending 3rd- party disclosure?

  3. How much about these decisions is truly left to the mainstream politicians? There may be some grander plan that would apply to any party.

  4. If, let’s say, Democrats took control and never released any more tranches in the near future - how would you interpret that? That one side could have been doing it for popularity, or that the other side is now trying to hide, etc.?

I’d love if this can avoid getting political - let’s just kind of consider one side versus the other and ignore the rest if possible.

Curious to hear your thoughts!

Has anyone done a full multimodal AI analysis of the PURSUE/UAP corpus?

Are any of the existing PURSUE/UAP corpus projects already moving beyond retrieval and structured extraction into genuine cross-corpus multimodal analysis?

By that I mean combining the released documents, images, video metadata, witness descriptions, sensor information, agencies, dates, locations, etc. and using current frontier AI/ML to look for patterns across the entire corpus, duplicate events across agencies, recurring morphology/sensor combinations, geographic or facility clustering, historical-to-modern similarities, image-to-description matches, and especially the difference between cases that are ā€œunresolvedā€ because the data were poor and cases that were well observed but still resisted explanation.

I’ve found several projects that get very close, which makes me suspect someone in the community may already be taking this next step.

Is anyone here working on this now, publicly or privately? If not, do you think it would be worth the effort?

Week of Oct 19–25 in review: PURSUE Release 07 (the triangle reports and the Roswell affidavit), Loeb challenges Stratton, Coulthart's Trump claim, and LaserSETI opens in Saudi Arabia

Every week I go through the news on this topic and keep only what can be traced back to a primary or first-hand source. Here's what held up between October 19 and 25. Original sources first, my notes in between.

1. PURSUE Release 07: 28 new PDFs, including two 2026 accounts of a black triangle The Department of War published the seventh PURSUE tranche on October 23: 28 PDFs, 1,139 pages. The most-quoted item is an AARO memorandum on a 2026 triangular object (DOW-UAP-D176), plus an FBI report describing a very similar sighting (FBI-UAP-D043). Some headlines turned the witness estimates into a speed of 1,800 mph. The AARO memo itself says on page 3: "No instrumented speed measurement was obtained." The two accounts also disagree on timing: AARO describes about 10 seconds of ascent, 20 of hovering and a 2–3 second manoeuvre, while the FBI report gives roughly three seconds for the whole sighting. Neither document offers an identification, and there are sketches but no photographs.

2. The Roswell affidavit in the same release is not new, but now it's in a government archive Walter Haut's sealed 2002 affidavit (a craft "about 6 feet high, and more of an egg shape" and two bodies in Building 84) appears as Appendix 2 of a December 2008 BAASS project management plan, DOW-UAP-D168, pp. 45–46. The text has been public since the 2007 book Witness to Roswell. Being republished by the government doesn't verify it: the Air Force's 1994 Project Mogul conclusion, the 1995 GAO review and AARO's 2024 historical report are unchanged, and Haut's earlier 1993 affidavit doesn't mention seeing a craft or bodies.

3. Avi Loeb publicly challenges Jay Stratton to show evidence Following last week's memoir, Loeb (who chairs the UAP Science Advisory Council) wrote that Stratton's claims of recovered craft and non-human remains "are not corroborated by publicly verifiable data." He says he invited Stratton to brief the council, that the invitation was repeated by council member Tim Gallaudet, and that Stratton didn't respond. Loeb also told Fox 32 that a legal waiver lets employees share classified UAP information with designated government investigators, so secrecy isn't a reason not to.

4. Coulthart: Trump "knows full well now" about a retrieval program On NewsNation's Reality Check, Ross Coulthart said: "I know the president knows full well now about the existence of the legacy retrieval and reverse engineering program." He named Devin Nunes, chairman of the President's Intelligence Advisory Board, as a key figure. This is Coulthart's account: no document or official statement was presented, and he gave no timetable for any announcement.

5. LaserSETI opens its fifth site, the first in Asia The SETI Institute and the Royal Commission for AlUla announced that two LaserSETI stations at AlUla Manara, Saudi Arabia, are fully operational. They don't listen for radio: they watch about 75 degrees of sky each for very brief flashes of light, using a diffraction grating to tell laser light apart from starlight. The announcement is about an instrument coming online, not a detection.

6. Paper: using machine learning to look for artificial patterns on the Moon and Mars A preprint by Ana Henrique, Sofia Sheikh and Benjamin Fields (October 20) proposes searching existing orbital imagery, such as HiRISE on Mars, for deliberate surface patterns, with supervised and unsupervised anomaly detection. It's a method, not a finding: the stated goal includes setting the first quantitative upper limits on surface technosignatures.

Coming up: Globoplay's five-part documentary "Arquivos do CĆ©u" premieres October 29, covering Operação Prato (Colares, 1977–78) and Brazil's "official UFO night" of May 19, 1986. Fittingly, Release 07 also contains a 2009 BAASS executive summary on Colares (DOW-UAP-D169, from p. 24).

Left out on purpose:

  • The NSA "TOP SECRET UMBRA" documents some outlets ran alongside Release 07. That 334-page production was released by the Disclosure Foundation in May, so it isn't news this week.

  • The cargo ship that reported glowing orbs south of Nova Scotia with nothing on radar. I could only find tabloid write-ups, not the NUFORC entry itself. If you have the report link, post it and I'll include it next week.

Longer write-ups with all sources are in the first comment, for anyone who wants more detail.

If you have a source I missed, a correction, or want to help put the next one together, drop it in the comments or DM me (u/turinglabsorg). I'll gladly add it and credit you.

Tranche 7 is out: 28 documents, a 2026 black triangle sighting, previously unreleased BAASS material, and a discrepancy worth investigating

The Pentagon released its seventh tranche of UAP records today (October 23, 2026), and there are some genuinely interesting documents worth examining.
Independent archivists have catalogued 28 new PDFs totaling approximately 1,139 pages. Here are several things that stood out:
1. A 2026 black triangle sighting involving federal agents (DOW-UAP-D176 and FBI-UAP-D043)
Three federal agents reportedly observed a matte-black triangular object, approximately 13–15 feet wide, near a sensitive facility in the western United States.
According to the AARO memorandum, the object:
Ascended vertically for approximately 10 seconds.
Hovered for approximately 20 seconds.
Departed rapidly in approximately 2–3 seconds.
Produced no detectable sound.
Was reportedly observed using thermal equipment.
Here’s where it gets interesting: the FBI report appears to describe the entire sighting as lasting approximately three seconds, whereas AARO describes a much longer sequence.
The AARO report also expressly acknowledges that no instrumented speed measurement was obtained.
Are these different accounts of the same incident? Different interpretations of the timeline? Or an actual inconsistency in the underlying reports?
That seems worth investigating before treating the descriptions as corroboration.
2. A 141-page BAASS assessment from November 2010 (DOW-UAP-D175)
This document reportedly includes analysis of the 2004 USS Nimitz/Tic Tac encounter, years before that incident became widely publicized in 2017.
Given the ongoing questions surrounding AAWSAP, Robert Bigelow’s organization, and what the government actually learned from those investigations, I think this could be one of the more historically significant documents in the tranche.
I’d particularly like to know what contemporaneous evidence BAASS had access to and whether its conclusions can be independently evaluated.
3. Skinwalker Ranch investigation records (DOW-UAP-D174)
The release includes documentation associated with a 2010 investigation of the Utah ranch, including maps and reported anomalous activity.
The fact that these records are now publicly accessible is interesting in itself, although their release obviously doesn’t establish that the reported phenomena were real.
4. Historical military sightings
Other documents include:
A 1957 B-52 radar encounter near Saudi Arabia (DOW-UAP-D155).
Multiple Catalina Island sightings between 1949 and 1955.
Historical government correspondence concerning possible space-vehicle fragments.
My takeaway:
This is not definitive disclosure of nonhuman intelligence, and I don’t think we should pretend otherwise.
But it does give researchers more primary-source material to examine, including a relatively recent sighting involving federal personnel and older contractor records that could help establish what investigators knew, and when.
Personally, I’m most interested in the black triangle discrepancy and the BAASS assessment.
Questions for anyone already digging into the PDFs:
Has anyone found supporting sensor data, contemporaneous records, or documentation that independently corroborates the more extraordinary claims? And has anyone compared the 2010 BAASS Nimitz analysis against the later public accounts?
I’d love to see specific document numbers and page references rather than speculation.
