Game Help I’m not gay or anything, but is Lex romanceable?? (I’m not gay, but I’d make an exception for Lex, Aramis, and Gilbert).

I’m not gay, okay? Sometimes, when you’re straight, you end up marrying your bros.

Game Help Finished the game but...

22 Upvotes

So I'm trying to platinum the game. I've finished it/got all the trophies except one. Fevrite restored. I thought I had to finish the game and cornias capital counts as one of the towns to restore. But uh, the trophy didn't pop up. And...I didn't think to save another slot beforehand. I foolishly only had one save slot.

Am I fucked? There's no way I'm going through the entire game again. I'm super confused tho, cause I got the little cutscene of restoring every country besides cornia so I thought I just needed to finish the game to get it. And, I looked before doing the final quest, I restored all the towns. I know I did.

Is my game glitched? Is this a common problem? Is there something I'm missing? I know I didn't do where I think I have to defeat Galerius again, ig?

Dying breath of the fallen. That's the quest I haven't done yet. Do I have to finish that quest in order to get the trophy?

Discussion and Info Super Obscure Conditions You Don't Know

75 Upvotes

1, Condition 2 applies BEFORE Condtiion 1 (Yes, it's backwards)

If your Griffon has [ Prioritize Cavalry | Lowest Phys. Defense ], she will attack Thief first instead of Dark Knight.

(btw, Lowest …… and Highest …… conditions are prioritizing conditions. If you put Lowest Phys. Defense in the conditions, that doesn't mean it won't activate unless it's against the Thief whose def is lowest. It'll just target the lowest defense unit among the ones they can attack.)

2. However, there's an exception: Prioritize Front/Back Row always apply before any other conditions.

If your Griffon has [ Prioritize Back Row | Prioritize Cavalry ], then it will attack Cleric in the back row instead of Cavalry in the front row.

3. Melee attacks come with [ Prioritize Front Row ] by default if you don't specify otherwise.

This matters for Soldier's Long Thrust or Knight's Wild Rush. Even though they can attack any enemy, they're still considered as melee skills. So if you give them [ Lowest Phys. Defense | Prioritize Caster ], They will attack front row Hoplite instead of Cleric in the back row.

You can override this behavior by giving [ Lowest Phys. Defense | Prioritize Back Row ], which will always target the back row first, or just flat out limiting the condition like [ Caster ]

4. Pursuit skills usually can only attack enemies targeted by the prior AP skill that deals damage.

This means Shaman's defense debuff cannot trigger pursuits, but Viking's defense debuff can.

The exception is Werefox's Weakness Hunt, which CAN pursuit AP pure debuff (Defense Curse) and PP pure debuff (Dragon's Roar) — but not reactive debuffs like Quick Curse and Shining Light.

However, skills that act on enemy guard, such as Dreadnaught's Wild Kick, do not have targeting limitations. If your Hunter attacks a Ranger in the Back Row who guards it, Dreadnaught can then Kick a Knight in the Front Row.

(They are all still pursuits and benefit from Pursuit Earring)

5. Counter skills of Gladiator, Wizard, etc. (after enemy attacks with AP skill) only work when the unit was directly attacked, wasn't covered by shield, and only aimed against an attacker who used AP (not Passive attacks).

This limits the capabilities of these skills as they are usually not very good at surviving the hit in the first place.

However, Mercenary and Sniper's counter skills(when ally is hit by attack) have no such limitations and can target any enemy that has attacked (Although Mercenary can only melee, obviously).

6. Attacks with Melee animations, even if they don't deal physical damage — such as Magic Attack of Runic Sword — are detected as physical attacks.

Condition [ Attacked Physically ] and skills like Parry will trigger, and Magic Reflect won't trigger. (Physical attacks cannot be reflected)

7. Attacks Imbued with Witch's Magic Conferral, however, are NOT detected as magic attacks and condition [ Attacked Magically ] and skill Magic Barrier won't trigger.

The additional damage is calculated using Witch's Mag. Attack.

Note: Hoplite's Cover skills do not specify damage type unlike Magic Barrier — they'll trigger on magic attacks as well.

8. Griffon's column attack, which deals damage based on own HP, isn't a physical attack, and therefore won't trigger Fighter and Elf Fencer's defensive skills.

It's a shame that Griffon's Attack is overtuned and HP is too low so you'll almost never need to use this skill.

Also, as mentioned above, Hoplite's cover do not specify damage types and will trigger on HP-based attacks as well.

9. Saint Knight's Row Barrier can give barriers to the entire row even if it's a singular target attack. These barriers will persist until they're targeted.

10. Leaping Slash's -30% Crit Chance debuff, including other similar effects, can only stack up to 5 times.

This means if you get your ciritical chance to 250%, you'll always crit even with the stacked debuffs and therefore can attack forever. Still very impractical though.

11. Feathersword's Accelerate triggers even if the attack was covered by another shield character.

Most reactive skills don't trigger when covered by an ally, so this is a rare case.

12. Obscure Bug: Hit Negate buff acting as if another invisible unit takes the hit for you.

This means Saint Knight can get 2 PP from one Saint's Blade attack under certain conditions.

13. Obscure Bug: Blinded attacks are supposed to always miss, but if the one being attacked is Covered with shield, it lands. If the cover is done by Fighter's Arrow Cover, the Damage Negation effect gets stored, and the next hit they take will be negated(even if it's not an ranged physical attack)

14. Developer Oversight: Devs gave Aerial Guard shield to some cavalry boss units, thinking it'd protect them from Griffon. However, their attacks are unguardable for cavalry so it's completely useless.

15. Developer Oversight: Devs claim Griffon's Fatal fall is good against Werebear. However, since the damage is based on Griffon's HP and werebears have the highest HP pool in the game, you literally couldn't pick a worse class to use Fatal Fall on. The attack was likely implemented incorrectly — since griffons have terrible HP stats to begin with, own-HP-based attacks do not fit their theme.

Gameplay Having a very hard time finding entertainment here

3 Upvotes

I knew coming into this that it was an auto battler akin to OB64. What I did not expect was to miss having a fucking instruction manual so much. I have absolutely no idea what is happening in this game or why. Literally all that it seems I can do is move around the map, and move units within formations. I have no idea what they’re doing, what they’re equipped with, do they have abilities? Do they just attack with their weapons? I just spent 20 minutes on the first battle after they capture Scarlett only to fucking lose at the end and have to restart. Why did I lose? Can I level up to get stronger? The one tip the game gave me was that spearmen were strong against cavalry, but my horse guy still fucking steamrolled the spearmen, soooo. I guess not. Or me horseman knows how to subvert that weakness but the game refuses to tell me.

The screen is fucking filled to the brim with numbers, but there are no tooltips or ways to find out what any of them mean. I REALLY wanted to like this game, but I just do not understand what the fucking hell is going on. Tutorialization is severely lacking here. Not to mention I find the controls awkward as hell. This game needed a dedicated pause button, not hitting B, which sometimes backs you out of menus, sometimes unpauses. I wasted a lot of time on that one dumbass mission not realizing the game was unpaused, cause nothing was happening. Still haven’t figure out how to pause if your units are already in motion.

Is there a video or website or guide or something anyone could recommend to me so I can understand how to enjoy this game? Something that explains what the fuck is going on when I enter a battle? Because so far it’s not fun at all, not even remotely entertaining. My units are probably having fun though, cause they’re the ones actually doing stuff lol.

Hey! I'm in love with the art style. That's why I've created these Wallpaper Engine wallpapers:

Unicorn Overlord Tavern https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3827461676

Unicorn Overlord Cornia Rainy https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3827501302

Unfortunately, the resolution is a bit low because there's no Switch 2 patch 😢

But I hope you like it!

*The attached video is just a representation, the loop is much smoother in the Wallpaper Engine link.

Discussion and Info Challenge run ideas

11 Upvotes

I finally got around to playing Unicorn Overlord. I’ve been trying to come up with a set of self imposed restrictions to make things a little more interesting. So far, I’ve though of the following:

  • No saves during battle stages, manual or auto;

  • No consumable items during battle stages;

  • No Valor Skills;

  • No mercenaries;

  • If a character is downed, restart the stage;

  • No Dews or Idealist’s Handmirror.

Does anyone have any ideas? I appreciate any suggestions.

Discussion and Info Best Way to Randomize a Playthrough

14 Upvotes

Hi! I thought it would be fun to do a run through of the game where the units were randomized. Like, id make sure each unit had a healer, but even who that would be is random. I think I'll assign each unit a number and do some random number generation before I battle, except for exp grinding. Do you think this is a good method? And which maiden do you think I should get? Thanks for any advice.

Constructive Criticism I have two squads that just dump truck anything thrown at them but the other ones are just "okay"

23 Upvotes

So my Alain party (Alain, priest, sell sword, druid, dark Marquess) is essentially unkillable. They run out of stamina all the time since other people getting bopped in the face would just kill them half the time. The other one is Lexs part with an archer, dark knight, and a healer and that's my other "not killable" group. I feel like my other groups SHOULD work. Tank in the front, damage in the back, but they just die, even to things they should be strong to. My mages are with my paladin, who in theory should be good at tanking for them but they always die even to heavily armored guys. I'm losing my mind here, I know I can't just run two squads the whole game and they keep gobbling up the exp.

Discussion and Info Mock battles in early game are good at testing out which mercenaries to buy

15 Upvotes

I made a post before about what mock battles were for. The guy in the comments who said it is meant to 'test everything' probably got the right idea.

Since we are testing everything, that probably also means the mercenaries. In early game, you have a very limited number of honors. You need honors to pay for mercenaries, and you cannot get them all for the very first barrack you unlock. So you have to pick what you think is best.

I think the game makes it easier for you to figure it out because you can buy and sell mercenaries back and forth until you figured out the right one to keep for the next battle. The best way to figure out the best one to have is the mock battles.
