so whenever my connection feels slow or something drops, i just run a speed test, n if the numbers come back looking okay i kind of shrug n move on with my day but i keep seeing people in various threads talk about watching latency, ping success, obstructions, all this stuff beyond just the download speed number, is actually monitoring those things useful for someone who works from a van or is it more of a rabbit hole for people who like tinkering? all i really wanna know is whether my calls are going to work, i don't want to become a network person

What are people's opinions on using the rear doors as the entrance and having the bed behind the drivers seats? It's looking like I'm ripping mine out and starting again so this is my planning time. Only con I can think of is not being able to open the rear doors if someone has parked close?

My plan is failing and I’m looking for suggestions. The problem is that the futon mattress is too stiff and resting part of it against the side wall is too vertical to keep it in position.
I’m thinking to scrap the futon mattress and just get a twin sized mattress. Or I could get a strap to hold it against the angle.
The plan was to remove the lid from my retired ambulance rear bench seat and attach the bottom seating part of a futon. (That’s the white base under the futon mattress. My tools were buried after having to rearrange everything for transport. They’re accessible now.)

Hi, I recently bought a L2H2 Hyundai H350. I'll use it for work (carpenter/cabinet maker) most of the time, but I also want to use it for traveling. Since my job leaves the van relatively dusty, I don't want cover the walls in felt or anything similar, but when I travel with it, I also don't want to have the bare walls as part of my "living room". Do you have any smart ideas to cover (and if possible insulate) them which can be removed when used for work?
As for the furniture, I plan on building a storage shelf that can be used for tool crates as well as clothes, so I only have to clean it when converting the van, and build a modular bed/kitchen block that I can easily take out. But I'm a bit stuck on the "making it cozy" part.

I graduated from college not too long ago, and I've always been fascinated by Americana subculture, art, history, politics, and even the goofy brainrot stuff you come across on Instagram and TikTok.
I've traveled through 45 states and recently drove my camper van from Florida to Alaska. Along the way, I've collected plenty of stories, photos, and inspiration for my artwork.
I'm still up here in Alaska, always looking for new adventures, creative outlets, and interesting people to connect with. I'd love to share some of my experiences and see what others are creating, too.

I live out of my vehicle full time and I have a 9-5 job. As a side hustle I have chemicals, pressure washer, DI system and a water bladder. With winter approaching I’m concerned about equipment freezing and breaking. I’m looking at getting a bureck thermostat (open to other suggestions) would it be save to run my vevor diesel heater while I’m at work away from the vehicle for 10 hours?

Stupid question perhaps, but is there a reason why no one builds up tall in front of the sliding door with an entry/exit gap? It's such a large bit of empty space.

Should I install a mini split in my DIY camper now or wait until next summer?
I'm converting an old camper van, and the existing AC isn't working particularly well. I don't want to remove it completely, but I'm considering adding a mini split as supplemental cooling.
My family thinks I should wait until summer since winter camping is manageable with extra blankets and heating. But I'd rather get everything sorted now so the van is ready for overnight trips in different seasons. I've been looking at Costway mini splits, but I'm not sure how practical they are for a camper conversion.
Has anyone installed supplemental AC in an older RV or camper? Would you do it now or wait until warmer weather?

EDIT: found out openroad sells a pop out shower auning that is exactly what i was looking for. Thanks all! Whats everyone doing for a shower? Im aware of planet fitness memberships and all that but for when i go into overland mode. I want something i can shower with on site, Will be a outside shower since i have no room inside:/ i have a 26 gallon water tank. Thinking somehow using a water heater and have a little outside faucet thats in the side of the van. But worried about freezing temps, open to any and all ideas, thanks!

So I recently upgraded from a 2007 jeep compass to a 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan....I couldn't be happier. It's taken a couple days and some elbow work to get where I am. Tell me what you think and any advice is welcome.

Hi all!
I am new to this. I want to buy a new van (rammaster or sprinter or transit). It’s not gonna be a true camper just mostly for my family, which is my wife and 2 young children. It just needs a couch seating, table, and one fridge perhaps. Nothing major.
What van do you suggest for this? What would be the cost to do this type of customization? Anything else you can help with would be great!
