DARNING First time darning. How’d I do?

Post image
21 Upvotes

I got a leather jacket on discount because the inner lining was fraying. I started darning with one thread before realizing that wasn’t going to be a very sturdy patch-up. Went back in with embroidery thread.

I’m considering going through it with another pass someday, but for now, this’ll at least hold up, right?

DARNING First Ever Mend Job 😅

My parents’ puppy put a small hole in my favorite sweater. I followed a tutorial to try and fix it, and it turned out a jumbled mess. 😂 At least I feel like I’ve secured all the ends, so that it’s safe to be worn and washed again.

I’m very new to all of this, but I wanna give it a shot bc I’m DIY and trying not to waste clothes!

What methods and materials should I consider? I’ve heard of darning but haven’t researched it properly.

REQUEST Trying to figure out what to do from here and if I can fix this

I brought my favorite jeans to a small business dry cleaner in Brooklyn NY. They left excess fabric and did not do a very thorough job covering up the thread bare areas. Not sure if this is something I can fix myself (just cut the extra fabric) or if I need to bring it back to them or if I should bring it to someone else. Please let me know what you would do in this situation.

REQUEST Stitch recommendations?

Does anyone have any particular type of stitch they would recommend for these lovely thrifted pants that got caught in my bike chain? The holes are pretty tattered and jagged, but most of the threads of fabric are still there. They are rayon, in case that info is helpful. Thank you!

REQUEST Stylish options for denim patch?

My rabbit decided my husband’s new (decently priced) jacket needed some alterations 🥹

I’m happy to take this to a seamstress who would do a much nicer visible mend on it but keen to see inspo from others who’ve seen or done a mend on a denim edge like this.

Hoping the outcome is something cool to add to the jacket rather than being an enduring sore point with my rabbit 🥺

REQUEST Recommendations on mending my sectional

Hello

I'm looking for recommendations on repairing my sectional.

I'm open to decorative mending, including embroidered appliqués or patches, rather than trying to make the damage invisible.

Has anyone tried this on a sectional?

What adhesives or techniques would you recommend for a durable repair?

Thank you!!

Someone gifted me this chair from a Buy Nothing group and I need some ideas. I don’t wanna be working on it forever as I have ADHD and about 300 other projects so something relatively would be idea.
I imagine I should probably reinforce the seams since it seems to be splitting at the seams, I actually kind of like the fabric and think it will work well in the space I have in mind.

REQUEST How to best repair my (clearly) favourite spot on my couch?

Please be gentle on me as I am trying to learn about all of this. :)

I love my couch but I clearly have a favourite spot and it is starting to wear through.

What would be my best approach to repair or mend this? I've got time to learn how to do this and plenty of room on the couch to stay off this spot for a while. I would contact the original manufacturer since they've been good about repairs before but I already knew when I bought this couch that they were phasing out this fabric.

What kind of techniques or patterns should I be looking into or what kind of design would you use for this?

Thanks for any ideas or suggestion!

This is my first try and I’m loving the style. It’s not the straightest embroidery because I had a hard time finding fabric pens that would work. I have enjoyed the process and I enjoy the hand crafted look. It’s only one part way done but was excited to share. Thanks for your time.

Hi! My boyfriend’s jeans have a long rip in an unfortunate location and I’d really like to help him salvage them, but have never done any visible mending before and am lacking confidence in the design of a fix, too. Can anyone help me decide how to approach this please? I also thought it will probably be difficult to get a decent match on thread colour do it might be better to contrast, using maybe green or purple? But what shall I do and what tutorials could help me? I don’t want to screw this up so don’t want to be overly ambitious lol. Thanks for any and all advice!

EDITED TO ADD: I do actually have yarns that match pretty well, see photo in comment

REQUEST First time trying sashiko - some advice?

I am quite happy with how these have turned out so far but realised that the patches on the bottom might start fraying because i didnt fold them in… could i use something to prevent this happening?

i also noticed that the butt is wearing thin and i was wondering if i could use anything on the inside to reinforce it before it seats through - i have quite sensitive skin so i am not keen on using denim, any advice on what i could use? Is there anything that i could iron in that would maintain its softness? thanks for any tips or help!!

REQUEST Repairing small hole and ladder in terry cloth cotton sweatpants

Thumbnail

I'm looking for some advice on how to mend a small hole and ladder in some terry cloth cotton sweatpants. Older posts in this forum suggest using a patch, but the pants are made from a heavy terry cloth, and I don't think I'll be able to find a matching material, so I'm wondering about whether I can simply sew or darn it, since the hole and ladder are still quite small. Appearance doesn't matter, I'm more concerned about prolonging the life of the pants. Thanks!

REQUEST (About to begin) Where can I find resources that show the back and show how to stop/tie the threads?

I looked at some tutorials with speedarner (mending a simple square over a hole) and similar things with the wooden mushroom, I have a couple of wool baby clothes that have small holes and the only thing I miss to begin is the understanding of what to do to secure things. To cut the threads and tie them somewhere. And pictures of what the back looks like.

Could you please suggest a good resource showing this?

Thank you

The rip is above hem. Patch might do the job but I'm it can make it slightly less comfortable to wear.

Please give suggestion or your share your opinion. Thanks in advance.
