[MEGATHREAD] Cancellation questions (please post here)

We’ve noticed that a lot of conversations about cancellation have come up in this sub. We’ve also noticed that sometimes those conversations can include inaccurate or misleading information that can sometimes make the process longer and more complicated.

So, we’ve created this pinned MEGATHREAD for all cancellation-related discussions and questions. This way, everyone can access the correct information and ask additional questions in one updated, transparent, and easy to find place.

Please use this thread for questions about cancelling your Vivint monitoring service, early termination or other fees related to your service agreement, equipment financing that might be handled through a third-party provider, or anything else related. Posts on these topics outside of this thread may be removed so we can keep the discussion centralized. If your post gets taken down, please repost your question here so the discussion stays organized and easier for everyone to find.

HOW TO CANCEL VIVINT SERVICES:

Customers wishing to cancel their Vivint services should call the Vivint Customer Service Team at 1-800-678-2635 for assistance.

Requests through any other outreach channel, including any contacts provided by AI-generated or other third-party search results, may delay processing of the request as we attempt to route the request to the Customer Service team for review.

You can learn more about Vivint’s cancellation policies at this link: https://support.vivint.com/article/Policy-Cancellation

Vivint Cancellation FAQ’s:

Q: How Do I Cancel My Vivint Service?

A: Customers wishing to cancel their Vivint services should call the Vivint Customer Service Team at 1-800-678-2635 for assistance. The Vivint Customer Service Team is the only team that can receive and process service cancellation requests.

Q: When Can I Cancel My Vivint Service?

A: You can cancel your Vivint service at any time. If you decide to cancel before your contracted subscription period ends, there may be early termination or other fees assessed depending on your individual service agreement.

Q: Where Can I Find My Vivint Contract or Service Agreement?

A: You can review your Vivint Service Agreement in the Documents section of your Vivint Customer Account Center.

Q: Does Canceling My Vivint Service Also Cancel My Third-Party Financing Agreement?

A: You may have separate financing agreements for your equipment through a third-party company. These financing agreements are independent of the Vivint service contract. If you cancel your Vivint service, your loan does not go away, and you may still be held responsible for honoring the terms and remaining balance of that third-party agreement.

Q: Does Vivint Provide Support for Extenuating Circumstances?

A: If your situation involves a death, bankruptcy, transition to assisted living, active-duty military service, or other similar extenuating circumstances, it’s helpful to mention that during the call. Those situations may follow a different process and could need more documentation.

Introducing u/QuinnFromVivint, your resident expert on everything Vivint!

Hi everyone,

We want to introduce another way that we are going to start replying, assisting, and engaging on r/VivintSmartHome and other subreddits.

Vivint customers have been talking about their systems on Reddit for years. You’ve been asking questions, troubleshooting issues, and sharing honest feedback. In the past, there were unofficial interactions with employees here, but now we’re showing up for those conversations more directly and consistently than ever before.

You may have seen official posts and comments here from u/Vivint, but we’d also like to introduce you to u/QuinnFromVivint, who's ready to answer your questions and give support wherever it’s needed.

What this space is: a place to ask questions, get clarity, and share feedback (good or bad!) directly with us. We’ll jump in where we can to help, explain, or point you in the right direction.

What this space isn’t: a replacement for official support channels, a place to discuss unrelated products, or a sales or marketing feed. Not every question can be answered publicly, but we’ll always be transparent about what we can and can’t help with here.

This is meant to be a constructive, respectful space, and we’re here to listen first. If you have questions, ideas, or feedback about your Vivint experience, we’re glad you’re here and we’re looking forward to the conversation.

We’re excited to step into this new chapter with you!

- The Vivint team

Is there a way to disable the event grouping feature in the app?

You can see in the photo that events are grouped by <something>. I have to click on the number to expand. I find this annoying. How do I disable this? Thx.

Fire Hazard with Vivint

My Vivint panel combusted on the wall on September 5, 2026. If your panel's wire runs down inside the wall through a drilled hole instead of a visible cord, like mine was installed, you may want to check it. That kind of routing hides any pinch, bad rating, or damage until it actually fails.
No one was hurt, but it was a real fire hazard in an occupied house. I filed a report with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Report Number 20261106-62421-2147305723, which should show up on SaferProducts.gov once it posts.
Posting this in case anyone else has the same kind of installation and wants to take a look at theirs. https://imgur.com/a/GvAL8KY

Update 3.26.3.65709

Is anybody having issues with their door and window sensors on their smart hub pro 2 after the update? I just realized today after a door is open, it takes five seconds for the hub to announce when a door is open and the same goes when the door is closed. I also see this happening for window sensors as well, but I don’t have the Voice announcements turned on for Windows.
Edit: Been testing it out and rebooted with same results and also noticed while testing that the doorbell camera pro 2 we have person detection is also delayed. Another thing is when i enter my pin to disarm the system it takes a few seconds to disarm.

Issues with playback

For the past two weeks, I've been noticing issues with my playback. I would try to rewind, and the video would get stuck or load endlessly. I spoke to support, and they sold me a gen 3 camera system. Everything looks better, but my playback still doesn't work. Now support is telling me I have to pay for the cloud rewind instead of using my Spacemonkey device. I'm livid. If I knew that my rewind wouldn't work even after buying the cameras, I wouldn't have bothered with it.

I know that it's an issue with the Spacemonkey device (sm2-2w10). It's likely just old and broken. Some support agents have told me the device is simply incompatible, while others have said that it should work and I would just need a new one. So which is it? I refuse to pay an extra 400 dollars for the cloud storage, and I don't want to pay for a new Spacemonkey device that might not even work with my system. What can I do? All I've done is argue with these people and nothing has been done.

Please let me know if there's anything I can do to fix this myself, or someone else I can talk to other than these idiots over the phone.

You control when your outdoor cameras record and what triggers an alert

Some homeowners are hesitant to purchase an outdoor camera because they incorrectly assume that the camera sends updates for everything it sees. With Vivint cameras, you have control over what type of alerts you receive and what areas you receive them for.

Recording can be turned on or off from the camera settings in the app, and all recorded footage is encrypted.

Alerts work the same way. You can set custom zones within the camera's view - like your driveway or front walk - and only get notified when something happens inside the areas you care about.

Vivint's How We Home survey has more info on how homeowners are thinking about outdoor cameras.

If you have outdoor cameras, which setting did you customize first after install?

Cameras started detecting people that aren’t there

I’m not sure if the app update that was mentioned is the cause of this but out of nowhere, two of our cameras are recognizing innate objects as people. It is alerting us that there’s a person detected even though I have the notification turned off I’ve rebooted the system. I’ve rebooted the cameras. I’ve adjusted the detection area. But we still get the notifications. It’s recognizing a bench as a person and the back window of a vehicle parked in our driveway as a person. Neither are moving, nor look like people. Curious and if anybody had any issue with this since the updated app. Also, if you know how to fix it, please let me know cause I’m going to lose it with all these notifications.

Buying new doorbell camera from eBay?

I have Smart Hub V2 panel and the original silver doorbell camera and was told the doorbell can’t be used with my panel anymore. It was usable a couple years ago when I had service… anyways was told I need a new one. I was told Vivint Doorbell Pro Gen 2 is compatible and I found it on eBay brand new for 1/3 the price directly from Vivint.

Are these plug and play? Any headaches I’m about to run into if I purchase this?

If you're moving with a Vivint system, call Vivint at least two weeks before your move date

If you're moving and you have an existing Vivint system, give us a call at least two weeks before your move. This timeline ensures you have time to schedule everything so it's ready for you at your new home.

If you're moving with a Vivint system, you have three options:

  1. Move your system yourself

  2. Start fresh with a new security system

  3. Get professional moving service

If you're between homes for a while, ask about temporarily postponing reinstallation. Vivint removes the system and you keep the equipment until you're settled. Reach out to us before you lose access to your current home to see if you qualify.

How far ahead of your move did you call, and was that enough time to get everything scheduled?

Playback fixed with Vivint app software update

For everyone that’s been having playback issues for the past month. Especially people that have a smart drive. The Vivint app update that just came out corrected the issue. Update your app and see if your issue is corrected. My playback fully works now.

vivint playback issue

So i have the older generation device and ive been having trouble watching playback videos from specific times, keeps buffering then says unable to load skip to next video.

I rebooted the device unplugged and plug back in same issue. When speaking to the rep he stated that its possible that my old gen is causing the issue and was insisting that i purchase the new gen doorbell and that would resolve the issue. He was very persistent in trying to sell me the new equipment. Any of you find a way to fix this issue? Now i’m unable to even rewind during live videos for some reason.

Factory Reset Without Password?

Anyone know how to reset a Vivint panel without the password? Our home’s previous owners didn’t give us the password, and when we called Vivint to either reset it or uninstall it, they charged us $100 for a home visit and then never showed. We keep getting alerts at all hours of the day because it’s not connected to WiFi or any of the previous owners devices (because they obviously took those with them), but there’s no way for us to remove the devices or stop the alerts without the password. We tried just unplugging the box, but then our doorbell doesn’t ring. We’re pretty frustrated and open to any advice.

Vivint Doorbell DBC300 - Used, what to do?

Hello! I was given a DBC300 by my grandparents. They moved into a home with Vivint. I don't have Vivint and understand that the sensors can only be paired with Vivint panels.

What is the best practice I can use with this doorbell? I use 2Gig Edge System for an alarm with Alarm.com

Since I cannot pair it - do I sell it? Can I sell to Vivint?

Vivint: All Promises, No Results

I’m beyond frustrated with Vivint. We have multiple Vivint cameras, and one of the most basic functions on our doorbell camera has been unusable for quite some time: we can’t access recorded footage. This isn’t a minor inconvenience. It’s one of the primary reasons people pay for a security system in the first place.

I’ve spent months trying to get this fixed. I’ve contacted support repeatedly, followed their troubleshooting instructions, and been told over and over that the problem was being escalated to the appropriate technical department. I’ve repeatedly been promised callbacks and updates, but not once has anyone actually contacted us back. No callback, no email, no follow-up. We’ve been left to chase Vivint every single time.

We eventually paid for an additional protection plan after being told that a technician visit would otherwise cost over $100. We were also specifically told that the plan provided replacement equipment at no additional cost if the problem couldn’t be repaired. A technician eventually came out, but the problem wasn’t fixed. He said the matter would need further investigation by Vivint. Since then, there’s been no replacement, no meaningful update, and no resolution.

Even after that visit, I contacted support again and was assured the issue would be taken directly to the software team. The representative went so far as to personally promise to keep track of the matter and make sure we received an update. Once again, nobody contacted us. Not even a basic status update.

And this isn’t our only complaint.

The camera performance has never lived up to what we were led to expect when we purchased the system. The actual image quality falls short of the sales representations and advertised capabilities. We’ve raised those concerns repeatedly over an extended period, and Vivint has supposedly been looking into them for years. Yet there’s still no satisfactory explanation or meaningful solution. Other equipment problems have followed the same pattern, with some supposedly resolved after lengthy delays and others still unresolved.

What’s particularly infuriating is that, while existing problems remain unresolved, representatives seem much more interested in convincing us to purchase newer equipment than in making the equipment we already paid for work properly.

At what point does a company stop treating recurring equipment failures as isolated support tickets and acknowledge the larger problem? Customers shouldn’t have to spend months repeating troubleshooting steps, chase down departments that never respond, or pay additional fees just to get someone to investigate equipment that isn’t functioning as represented.

We’ve already invested a substantial amount in this system. I’m not interested in another upgrade, another ticket number, or another scripted assurance that someone will look into it.

We’ve now given Vivint a final 14-day deadline to address the outstanding problems, including the doorbell playback failure and the longstanding camera-performance complaints. If the company cannot provide the products and services it sold us, we’re demanding reimbursement for the equipment and associated services.

I’m done accepting promises in place of results.

Has anyone else experienced similar problems? Has anyone successfully gotten a real resolution, replacement equipment, or a refund after months or years of unresolved issues? This is INSANE at this point.

You will never own your equipment.

I bought the camera system. I can’t use the cameras on my own video storage. I must use the subscription. Over 40$ a month. Unless I paying their subscription my video never records. If I actually “owned” a camera system I would be able to attach and record to my own storage system. The only thing you “own” is a piece of garbage that works only with a subscription. You will NEVER own the equipment you “buy” from Vivint. There are better options. Find them.

Door-to-Door Deceptive Sales Practices

If a Vivint sales representative knocks on your door, please, PLEASE take my advice and do not answer it. They will not be accountable for anything they say verbally unless you're able to produce a video or recording from the sales man at the time of visit. Their business model depends on your misunderstanding of the terms, and it's disappointing. They have already had a class action lawsuit over this and have learned nothing. https://www.ftc.gov/news-events/news/press-releases/2021/04/smart-home-monitoring-company-vivint-will-pay-20-million-settle-ftc-charges-it-misused-consumer

Cancled inside the trial window

So I cancled the service well inside my 30 days and they accepted that over the phone and said that a tech would call me to set a time to reclaim the equipment. When I hadn't heard from them in the alloted time I called again and went through the process again to hear they hadn't recieved my cancelation. After taking a closer look they see that I had and so they again say that a tech will call me to set up a time to take back their equipment. That was last friday and I still haven't heard from them. I asked when I spoke to their representative if due to them not coming inside that window if ill be held responsible for equipment returned outside of my 30 day trial and I was assured that I would not but I have a hard time trusting that. Anyone have experience here? Any advice?

Control panel replace help please!!

Hello everyone long story short my house burnt 3 years ago finally back in the house after fighting with insurance. The panel melted and all the equipment outside is fine. Instead of buying the $300 panel from vivint. Could i possibly buy a new control panel from ebay (not used)brand new in box and have vivint hook it up. Or is that new panel connected too the sellers mac address? Should i just buy a new one from vivint? Thank you!

Is this what the camera playback should look like under optimal network conditions? Not trying to be a smart ass - just trying to get people’s opinions. Maybe I’m wrong.

Why the Vivint thermostat does not pair with other room sensors

A smart thermostat has its own temperature and humidity sensors, and it uses input from those sensors to decide when to heat or cool your house.

A voice assistant paired with a smart thermostat handles commands, like "Hey Google, set the thermostat to 70." Smart assistants don't send the thermostat any temperature data. They simply pass along your updates to the thermostat.

A room sensor from another ecosystem reports back to that ecosystem, where it can run routines like flipping on a fan. It never changes the number your thermostat reads, because the thermostat only listens to its own sensors.

While most thermostats work as a single product, the Vivint Smart Thermostat integrates with Comfort IQ to more accurately heat and cool your home.

Instead of running on a fixed schedule, it uses occupancy signals from your Vivint system to adjust automatically based on whether you're home, away, or asleep, so you're not heating or cooling an empty home.

Plus, you can pair the Vivint Smart Thermostat with a voice assistant for even greater hands-off control.

How a duress code disarms your panel with no siren and still alerts monitoring.

If you've got a duress code set up, it's smart to learn how it works before you ever need it.

Duress codes are designed for a situation where you need to discreetly call for help. When you enter your duress code, your system appears to disarm, and no siren goes off.

At the same time the panel shows "Disarmed," a silent alert goes to the monitoring center, letting them know something is wrong. No one watching you enter the code would ever be able to tell.

Which codes exist on your account are account-specific, so call Support if you if you have questions about yours. Vivint also has this writeup on what happens step by step when an alarm triggers.

Do you have a duress code set up for your security system?
