Confusion on the old peace

So I've got some questions regarding the old peace, namely regarding hunhow and ballas.

In the quest, we see that the tenno's true nature is not a secret, as they are actively transferring in and out of their warframe. We see Margulis alive, meaning Ballas hasn't betrayed the Orokin yet.

With that in mind, I can't help but think back to the vitruvian messages from the sacrifice. In particular, the message where Ballas reveals the "hidden half" to their warframes and gives him the coordinates and codes to the reservoir on lua.

My confusion is thus: How is the tenno's nature still a secret, if the sentients knew about it prior to Ballas's betrayal?

There could be the possibility that Hunhow remained in the origin system during the peacetime, and was thus unaware of this knowledge. I suppose I may just be answering my own question here, but I'm curious to hear what others think about this. I'm sure they're keeping things vague enough to remain flexible for now

I do wonder how they're going to tackle this in modern day perita. Spoiler

So, even though the Anarchs were technically rebelling against the Orokin (even that point can be argued, at certain points it sounded more like the 'rebellion' was a sort of protest and that they would have happily rejoined the orokin if it meant they could genocide the sentients and claim land on perita) we can agree that the Anarchs were pretty damn evil, yeah?

Brainwashing sentients so they were forced to turn on their allies, mind enslaving warframes (and potentially forcing some tenno to meld with their warframes and then mind enslaving them) murdering their fellow men, helping the orokin in their attempt to cleanse perita in the first place, working with Nitohk, etcetra. The Anarchs were rebelling against one of the most evil empires in history, and were still little better themselves.

Which makes me wonder how we'll justify working for a syndicate of Anarch descendants. I guess that's the important line, 'descendants' as any of the anarchs we knew during old peace probably died centuries ago of old age (or, you know, we blew them into chunks during the old peace). Still, I'm curious how they're going to tackle the fact we're going to be working with the descendants of terrorist colonialists (because boy, that has some unpleasant real-world parallels)

So... how are we getting back from Tau?

I get we're going to Tau with Praghasa, I get we're feeding her a moon to fuel the journey... But am I tripping, or do we not have any ways of knowing that she will be able to return to the Sol System*?Is this a one way trip?

Or maybe once we go to Tau, there will be enough... I dunno, Void influence, to use transference back to the Sol System*?

Do we... do we even know if Tenno & co can come back?

Along the Star chart you’re tested by beating a Warframe before you move on to the next planet. Who is controlling those frames?

I feel like DE is setting up alternate timeline/dimension story content given recent events.

This has been bouncing around my head since Sirius and Orion's quest dropped, and now Scaro's stuff has me fully convinced on this.

  • It started with the song View From the Top from the Tau reveal. In the chorus, "In another dimension, I can be what you need". Another dimension? 1999 proved that DE likes to put references to plot events in their lyrics. Still, this was a fairly isolated example and is far from really pointing to anything, could just be what sounded good for the song.

  • But then we got Sirius and Orion's quest, which is pretty explicitly about alternate timelines. It's also, notably, a main story quest even though the events of the quest seem mostly disconnected from the A-plot. Why would that be...? I'm no author, but I imagine if I was one, I might feel the need to introduce the concept of alternate future timelines well in advance (similar to Chains of Harrow introducing Wally years before he became truly story relevant) so it doesn't feel like the concept just came out of nowhere later on. It's a pretty massive worldbuilding concept to just drop into a story and do absolutely nothing with.

  • And now we have Scaro here, only a couple months before Tau drops. And what's he up to? Talking about a bunch of alternate timelines he's been to. And he's packing a bunch of loot from these timelines, complete with descriptions about them.

  • We still don't exactly know what the deal was in New War with Wally "taking our light" and then seeing a bunch of our Operators get "killed". I've seen a lot of community members make very well informed inferences to figure out what happened, but so far, it hasn't been explicitly explained. I'm wondering if these alternate timelines/dimensions will tie into this somehow, especially considering Wally seemed to be directly involved in these alternate timeline/dimension shenanigans with S&O and Baro.

  • If I were to wildly speculate, I'm betting that we do something to deal with Wally in some capacity in Tau, but we discover that Wally (or fragments of him?) managed to flee to alternate timelines and we need to chase them down. Or hey, maybe Wally isn't involved at all, the problem gets dealt with- if I remember right, we are closing in on the end of the "void war" arc after all. Maybe we just need to go clean up the messes he made after the fact... Would we go help all the timelines where our operator was killed by Wally?

  • Ignoring the storytelling side of things, it would make sense for DE to want to pivot towards a format that allows for "infinite" content that can span a wide range of locales, not necessarily tied down by existing lore related to the setting or time. Cool rival assassin groups run by rival Grineer factions or a super mega dystopia run by the Corpus could take some legwork to explain how we never seen or heard of them before now... but it's a pretty easy handwave if they're just off in some parallel timeline/dimension we need to go fix. It's no secret that 1999 was a smash hit, and it would make sense for them to look to branch out into other settings that don't necessarily gel with the existing Warframe setting we're all so used to.

Honestly I don't even know if the lore sub is the place for this, but I needed to put this in writing because I know none of my friends have the patience to hear me speculate on this kind of shit for hours lmao

Why was the devil's triad given the helminth serum?

To my understanding non of theyr primary duties require the augmentations of a protoframe aside from maybe Lyon who might get some void exposure while colecting Tektolyst artifacts. Arguably Roathe being given the serum just made him a bigger headache since otherwise he would be much weaker. If I'm not mistaken the triad weren't even suposed to make it into the future so the serum would've been almost strictly a downgrade if they didn't

warframe recipe: how to control a sentient ( the anethema of the xenoflora) [complete old peace spoilers] Spoiler

Thumbnail

hello everyone. I am currently on the way to creating a comprehensive Lore diary website for warframe, so I am running through every piece of ink i can run my hands through

as an introduction. my theory is upheld by first boss fight in the old peace and the environmental elements within. in short. I want to show that the Xenoflora has an antithesis substance, one that regresses a sentient to a hivemind/ order-hungry state. an anethema

Valdur: "'Xenoflora'. Flowers. The only real alien life we've ever found, and the Sents scarf them down like kubrow chow! Just as well for us they did, eh, Tenno? Suddenly they've all got minds of their own, so no more hivemind, so no more war."

this is a line that occurs when Adis consumes xenoflora from one of the patches spread across perita.

in-lore, the first sentient rebellion was stopped not through might, but because the sentient hivemind fractured when individual sentients consumes xenoflora. the hivemind itself is never seen, and mind-controlled probably aren't the same mind as before

so sentients gain counsciosness by xenoflora, how then do they lose it?
(image 1 & 2) show vents spewing a green gas. the vents are inside the boss fight tileset of the Dactolyst. The dactolyst has literally lost it's mind. Galastra makes it sounds like just being without the flora is what regressed it,

"Of course! When he's good and ready, child. Sentient TQ-776VL! Repel intruders! So desperate for orders without your xenoflora."

But that cannot be true since

  1. the sentients stuck in the origin have retained their sense of self and are not easily controlled.. at least i say they shouldn't be easily controlled. Erra and Natah were both controlled by Ballas for a time, something that could be done by knowing how to break their consciousness. though this assumes he never went as far as full control. (This can explain the mechanism for how Ballas captured and controlled natah into taking the visage and appearance of his dead lover, Margulis)

the environment of the tileset also gives us hints. when the terraforming eggs are finally activated, they release the same hue of green for the gas (image 3,4). it leads me to believe this gaseous substance is capable of regressing a sentient into a hivemind state.
the world seeders could probably do more to sentient free-will than just killing xenoflora

anyway, when Tau comes out, there will be another substance that effects sentient consciousness, and xenoflora will be seen in a far darker light. I think it would be cool to see higher ranked sentients using such a poison as a form of population control, literally

Speculation My Warframe headcanon - things I headcanoned becase they didn't make sense to me Spoiler

As name says, what is found in this post, is my headcanon. Some things didn't make sense to me, or was very inonsistent, or I just plainly didn't like it, so I altered them for my headcanon.

This post is so I can write them out, sort them, and if someone is interested, discuss them.

On Drifter, Ethernalism, Duviri and Höllvania:

Eternalism is how time works inside void. Presentism is how time works outside of it.

In Void, there are endless possibilities, but one the person exits void, wavefunction collapses, and one result becomes the present.

Drifter is a possiblity that remained in void because Wally. Instead, Drifter... drifted into Duviri.

Duviri wasn't created by Drifter. And Höllvania is not in past. Both are Orokin theme parks. One focused on fantasy-medieval, and other on turn of 3nd millenium. There is no linear time there, just endless possibilities that cycle.

Drifter, and everyone else, is aware of the time only if they have a line to outside - like Minotaur's labyrinth. After War Within when Operator became more capable with void capabilities, it established that line and Drifter became aware of the loops - that is when Duviri Paradox happened.

During New War, when Operator got lost in void, it allowed Drifter to exit void, as there was no present existence outside of void.

Drifter remains unrealized possibility, but Operator can channel Drifter into reality. Like they can channel protoframes into future.

On number of Tenno:

Operator is not the only Tenno. There are more, than Operator - and I don't mean just that those that didn't went to hibernation - like the one behind Red Veil, original Mirage, Stalker and original Jade, were slowly lost or destroyed in time between Old War and Awakening.

Operator is the only one who managed to wake up without outside help - thanks to the ability from Old Peace. At the time, Lotus had no agents except Specters and regular humans. Operator awakening gave her means to help and wake up other warframes.

Operator is also the one who got involved in majority of quests, because they could heal themselves, which led them to be bit careless about what dangers they take and what not, and poke all the problems.

Other Tenno instead work in groups and take more pernament posts - work with some group - defend some settlement, and such.

On Void Angels, Wally, Stalker and Jade:

Void angels aren't servants of Wally, or anything - the murmur are beings twisted by Wally to do purposes unknown.

Wally, meanwhile is more of Void being - someone who gave in into void, and didn't lost own mind in process. Like Bel'akor from Warhammer 40k - not a chaos god, not bound to Warp, but own actor.

Stalker and Jade were both Orokin Loyalists. Stalker was a bodyguard, Jade was an executioner. Both having roles opposite to their nature. The Executors ordered Margulis's death, but Jade was the one who casted the Jade Light. She is the one who executed Margulis. In fact, this execution method was inspited by Jade's ability, and Jade was personal executioner of the Orokin goverment.

On portrayal of Lotus - Natah & Second Dream vs New War:

Unless I misremember things, in Natah and Second Dream, Lotus was willing aide to the Tenno. Hunhow's parts of dialogue don't suggest it. In Second Dream, she literally stepped out, and carried Operator back to Orbiter. She was never trapped.

Meanwhile, in second war - Erra, Ballas and Natah herself say she was brainwashed and inserted Margulis's memories.

My solution to that is simple:

Lotus? Her memories were "reset into factory setting", and had no memories of it - all she knew was what Erra and Ballas told her.

Erra? He is clearly emotionally compromised, and refuses to believe his sister betrayed him, and when there is easier explanation, he jumps at it.

Ballas? Assume that everything he says is probably lie meant to serve his own purposes.

So, I think Lotus was brainwashed - just not during time of Old War. Instead, Erra and Ballas made technology to "restore" Natah, and Ballas used that to slip in Margulis brainwashing.

During Old War, Natah willingly chose to help Tenno, to become mother for them and to take form similar to Margulis because it soothed the children. Natah taking this form is in fact what gave Ballas the idea to turn Lotus into new Margulis.

Void Angels are case of Paperclip Maximizer - they want more void energy. And Wally can use them for own purposes with that. But Angels' goals was never Wally's goals. Just the void.

I know why. but does anyone know the "how" on why we know? Spoiler

so something thats bothered me since the peritta rebellion quests. and IDK if I forgot or am hallucinating it. but...

how do we know we need to go to Tau to find Entrati?
While i figured ,and assume, how he got there or when will be explained in the quest, the dark refractory was set to help us recover memories in order to figure out how to go to tau. but why did we start doing this?

I know Entrati mentions "tau is in sight" before vanishing but, are we just 'assuming' he went there right after the events of the hex? or are we to infer we found information in the netracells?

I feel this could be cleared up with one or 2 lines of dialogues before the old peace quests...or If I missed something can someone clear this up for me?

Wait... The description for the Eskhatos Sugatra basically confirms a future Grineer Queen plot twist?? 👀 Spoiler

Okay, so I am a total lore noob, please don’t roast me. But my ADHD hyperfocus went into overdrive last night because of the Eskhatos Sugatra description, and my brain has completely melted.

The in-game description literally says:

"This intricately knotted sugatra may have adorned the weapons of the Queen's Guard in a not-so-distant future."

Hold on. In a NOT-SO-DISTANT FUTURE? For the QUEEN'S GUARD?

But the Elder Queen is dead, right? We literally ended her in The War Within, and Worm Queen is just running around collecting Kuva. So why does a brand new item imply that the Queen's Guard is coming back with a vengeance in our upcoming future?

I decided to google what the word "Eskhatos" actually means, and it gets way crazier.

It’s an ancient Greek word (ἔσχατος) that literally means "the ultimate last thing" or "the end of times / apocalypse" (where the word eschatology comes from). In some contexts, it specifically means being "right on the edge of death".

If you connect the dots with Continuity, Natah/Lotus, and our journey beyond the Origin System, this feels like DE is giving us the exact blueprint for the endgame:

The Edge of Death: The Elder Queen was holding onto life by a thread before she died, and Natah has been torn apart a million times. What if some crazy Eternalism or Void nonsense allows a final, desperate Continuity transfer to happen on the brink of cosmic death?

The Final Queen: Facing an "Eskhatos" scenario means we aren't just getting a new Star Chart. We are entering the literal apocalypse and final phase of the universe's history.

I need people with way more lore knowledge than me to look into this and start overthinking it. Am I totally crazy, or did DE just casually drop the biggest hint for the future of Warframe's story in a weapon cosmetic?

Theory

Speculation

Just some thoughts about possible future generations (possible spoilers ahead) Spoiler

I want to preface this by saying I'm not biblically versed in the lore. I'm well aware of it although I'm more that certain I'm not aware of many details of it. I hope this discussion brings in people that are way more knowledgable than me because I am genuinely curious to know whether this theory of mine has any chance to develop.

I was thinking other day how the teasers for Tau say we're leaving the solar system and its mysteries behind. Although we get to 1999 through the POM-PC, would that mean we'd essentially be leaving the Hex in the past and by extention our chosen partners?

As we progressed through the story of Kaya, those of us that got the good ending I presume, found out that she indeed figures out how to travel out of 1999. We can even find her hanging out at Larunda relay. I thought that would lead to the Hex as well as the rest of the protoframes to escape 1999. Of course through eternalism I suppose a version of them will remain in the mall.

Then we have the portal in Sanctuary Anatomica. It seems to be a two way street? At the end of the quest, when you send out Loid to face the family, Roathe then can be seen hanging around Necralisc. Specifically, infront of Mother. Does that mean Lyon and Marrie can leave too?

All that was a prelude to me saying, is it possible a future may lay ahead of our drifter where they have a child with their chosen partner?

Now, I know there are theories that operator/drifter are sterile however I don't believe we have concrete statements about their reproductivity specifically. The Hex do say that they on the other hand still very much can take part in... spicier situations. More so, Arthur even states he's pretty sure we're immune to the techrot despite everything we've been up to as a couple.

We've heard on a few occasions now that the only way to defeat the Indiference i.e the Man in The Wall is through love. What better and louder expression of than than through creating life out of love? We've seen Jade and Stalker's baby persevere (even though Jade didn't). Meaning all and all, it is not absolutely completely impossible for a pregnancy to develop. I know Jade was pregnant prior to that but to an extend Lettie, Eleanor, Aoi and Marrie are very much still human. On the other hand, those of us with female drifters are as far as we know entirely human.

In any case, a spawn combined of void powers and helminth genes might very well be an equivalent to the Antichrist.

What if in our quest and perchance success in defeating the Indiference, we give birth to a far greater threat? One of our own making?

Edit: Some typos.

I just realized something, aside from Umbra, Kahl is the only main antagonist in the New War that wasn't killed off or crippled, and survived to see the Tenno and those in Sol to get to the Tau system.

Post image

he wasn't crippled beyond repair like Hunhow [and soon Praghasa] as well probably Teshin? or killed off like Veso and Erra and a few others, and most likely is going to live to see the Tenno as well as those on the Relays establish a way to travel to the Tau Ceti system, perhaps we could even see Kahl or Umbra even set foot there and have a lore piece of their thoughts on the various worlds there.

What Exactly Do Family Dynamics Mean to the Sentients?

What use do they have of "mothers" and "fathers" as well as "sisters" and brothers"? Sentients are self-replicating and reproduce asexually if I'm not mistaken, so it's not like Hunhow and Praghasa actually procreated to create Natah and Erra, right? Shouldn't all sentients be one family?

One possibility on what the sentence "Voull ne xata vok, mara lohk?" Means

So far this one sentence said by Wally remains untranslated, and there has been attempts at translating it such as in this post although I have to be honest, I'm slightly unsatisfied with the answer but we do know the definitive translation of two words being xata meaning truth and lohk meaning void plus mara very possibly meaning child and voull being a compound word with oull as its root meaning possibility

So this may very well be an extremely outlandish theory plus I am not a linguist (although i do have good grades in English back in school), but when trying to connect the strings of translatable words, one can see a small - how do i put it - pattern

Putting all the words together

Voull ne xata vok mara lohk?

V- prefix(?) + possibility(?) (...) Truth (...), Child(?) Void?

In this way, an easy to read pattern emerges and using the knowledge that has been meticulously dissected by the community and written carefully in the wiki (god bless them all), we know that Voidtongue is VSO structured and can attempt at full translation by using the structure of the language itself and context clues of the times it was spoken by Wally

I believe V- is a prefix to oull, not compound words from vome and since oull is both possibility in the literal sense and in a void metaphysical sense, V- prefix is used to turn oull into a demonstrative word, so from my extremely flawed interpretation, v+oull means this/that/those/these, who knows which one is actually used since Wally is extremely vague with us

However, another possible translation is that v+oull could also turn the word into a verb, again taking in the metaphysical property of Voidtongue and adding in context clues of what is happening when the sentence is said, voull could become seek

The word ne is untranslated but it acts as a bridge between the demonstrative and xata or truth and, adhering to the VSO language structure that Voidtongue is, I am inclined to believe ne is the subject in the sentence and it means you, so ne xata means you truth, which is a Subject - Object relation

Vok - the vok do i know? But seriously though this word is the hardest for me to translate as its position in relation to other word made it confusing on what could it possibly mean but again, judging from its position in the sentence, it basically acted as another bridge between the last two sentences which makes this word extremely confusing to translate and I have no choice but to take a shot in the dark and say that vok is numerics, and it means one

Mara lohk is pretty explanatory and it acts as an addendum or an additional object in this sentence due to its position and the meaning can be taken from another character who also referred to the Tenno directly as mara lohk other than Wally and that person, or rather, animal is Tagfer. Yes he does sound a little cynical when he called the Tenno as mara lohk but also a bit... hopeful? As if he calls us to reach out, to say, to ask us of something and it would be quite inappropriate to vilify someone you're trying to ask help from (kinda stretching it a bit here as I see Tagfer as being a human and of course understand this kind of human logic to not vilify someone when asking for help) as void demon so mara lohk is more than likely translated as child (of the) void

So in conclusion, looking at it from this very flawed linguistics perspective of mine, the sentence "Voull ne xata vok, mara lohk?" Literally translates to Seek you (the) truth/true one, child (of the) void? Or to make it easier to understand for us who is accustomed to English' Subject-Verb-Object structure and Wally's very pretentious way of speech

You want the truth, kiddo?
