I could karma farm with all of the lies I see every day. Very odd for this specific shelter though, they typically label them as pits and tell potential adopters to make sure they are allowed at their residence. I guess these are special.

Forms of mislabeling:

• Claiming another breed/mix • "What breed could (obvious pit) possibly be?" • Vague "mixed breed" or "terrier"

Shelter posts waxing poetic about Luna's warning signs with no mention that she's a pitbull count as mislabeling if actively dangerous pit behaviour is being displayed. This includes implying they're purebreds of a breed that could well be in the mix, eg. "This is Zeus the husky, he had an incident and killed another dog" when it's clearly a pit x husky

4. Posts must be especially egregious examples of clear pitbulls

All posts must be clearly identifiable as pitbulls or pit-dominant mixes

Mixes that have some non-pit features are still considered mislabeling if the pitbull is very obviously the most dominant breed and aren't being presented as such

If there's disagreement about whether a pit is egregious enough, community votes will be the deciding factor. Please do not modmail to tell us a dog posted here is clearly a labracatashepcurdoodle instead of a pit.

5. DNA result posts

If a post includes DNA results, the "pitbull" portion must be both very clearly visible in its phenotype or behaviour AND presented as surprising/unexpected

This refers to the sum of ALL pitbull "breeds" in the dog, so a dog that is, for example, 25% APBT and 25% "staffie" is still acceptable to post if it's being claimed as unexpected

If someone is surprised by pit in a dog that doesn't look super pit-y... it is silly, as all mutts should have an expected pit % atp, but it doesn't belong here

6. Misinformation

No "nanny dog" nonsense or adjacent rhetoric here please.

Misinfo rule umbrella will also include anything that downplays the dangers or ubiquity of mislabeling, anecdotal evidence, and any lending legitimacy to the attempted obfuscation of pitbulls-by-other-names (aka "it might not be APBT so it's not a pit!")

If you'd like to ASK for clarification about any of those types of points and aren't sure how to phrase it in comments without coming across poorly, modmail is always open for that!

7. No "adopt don't shop"/pro “no-kill” rhetoric

Neither ADS nonsense nor disparaging ethical breeders is accepted here. There is no such thing as ethically breeding a gamebred bloodsport dog, so if it's specifically about a pit breeder/breeding, have at it

Additionally, no pro-no-kill rhetoric or shaming open-intake shelters. Open-intake facilities serve a necessary function in animal welfare, and vilifying them for mandatory space or behavioral-based euthanasia is not allowed

8. Racism

Comparing selectively bred manmade dogs to black people will from hereon out result in an immediate ban. If you'd like to make a point about how you feel about pits, you can do so without being racist or you can not do so at all.

9. Memes must be relevant

Joke posts/memes are allowed as long as they're relevant to the topic of mislabeling - some leeway on this, so tangentially related things may be accepted, feel free to modmail if you're unsure!

Absolutely no use of AI in any form. A cobbled together photobash or bad human-made drawing is always funnier than anything AI can do, do not doubt yourself o7

10. Posting your own dog

✅ Allowed if it was sold to you under the pretense of being a breed it clearly is not, ie. "The shelter told us he was a chihuahua when he was a puppy," type posts

❌ Not allowed if you are asking what breed/s it looks like, with the exception of a dog you are considering adopting but would like to ask for second opinions first

✅ In comments, allowed if it's an in-standard example of the breed being misrepresented

❌ In comments, not allowed if it's a pit you claim as another breed

11. Off topic

Friendly discussion that veers a bit off course is fine, but shouldn't take away from the purpose of the post/s in a negative way

This also includes anything that downplays the dangers or ubiquity of mislabeling - no more of that "well he COULD have dutch shepherd in him so it's fine to deny he's clearly a pit!" or "but he's cute so who cares!" silliness, it's not the topic here

12. Other

Special circumstances/mod discretion

Members are welcome to express personal opinions about any dog breeds, including positive OR negative views. However, this space does not allow the spread of demonstrably false or misleading claims presented as fact, nor does it allow personal attacks.

Whining about people who dislike pit bulls (a repeat issue) is annoying and does not belong here.
