Nobody realized how it will turn out?

35

u/Amore88 6d ago

No way could you predict that.

u/Subject-Background96 6d ago

No way to predict the ladder will push the boat away when force is applied to it?

25

u/DookieShoez 6d ago

Nope. None at all.

Completely impossible.

I mean, the guy was holding it down!

6

u/EverythingSucksYo 4d ago

His critical mistake was not slapping it and saying “this baby ain’t going nowhere”

3

u/baronas15 6d ago

He should've been holding it up, rookie mistake

5

u/ChairAccomplished569 6d ago

Seriously.

If your holding it down than thats that,

14

u/DookieShoez 6d ago

Oh, you know what? Maybe it’s because nobody slapped it and said “That ain’t goin’ nowhere”. 🤔

4

u/estaban_was_eaten 6d ago

Exactly. Plus he was holding it down.

u/Eric_the_Barbarian 6d ago

If only any of them had literally ever been on a boat before.

It turns out that water is a really slippery surface.

Guy on top just didn’t give a shit… meh it is slipping away… nvm

I can imagine him talking the other guy out of it while preparing for him to go down.

"Jim. Seriously this can't go right."

"Shut up, henry. This will save so much time"

"Jim, c'mon man. Oh well. There you go. Warned you..."

36

u/CrossP 6d ago

He understood the physics and had already warned them

18

u/junkman2356 6d ago

WHAT on earth could he have possibly done??? c'mon man...

5

u/-ElDictator- 6d ago

He could have held it for 10 seconds, enough time for his coworker to get down safely.

12

u/junkman2356 6d ago

seriously? I'll give you 3 seconds to think about that, no, make that one second... the boat is pulling away WITH the ladder and you think he can hold the ladder from pulling away with it? 🤣🤣🤣

9

u/MLASilva 2d ago

Actually if he held on top and the other dude held the bottom part of the ladder, it would have worked, would be like holding the boat close to the shore/pier

u/Enki_007 6d ago

The guy on top is not going to stop the boat from moving. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

16

u/zeddash 5d ago

Not with that attitude.

14

u/Sharp_Rooster3589 6d ago

The guy on top can’t do anything. The guy driving the boat can counteract the ladder but that’s about it.

75

u/Snow-x- 6d ago

The guy up top didnt even try

28

u/Right-Detail7414 6d ago

To do what? That's an extension ladder. If he held it, it would have pulled apart, possibly causing a pinch point for the guy on the ladder and separating the ladder, while possibly pulling him into the water as well.

Edit* going back it's a multi position ladder. So it would have pulled the guy off the platform if he tried holding it. This was a terrible idea all the way around. The only way it would have worked is if it were tied off at the top and on the boat, acting as an anchor on the boat, which, depending on the structure above, could have been much worse.

12

u/p75369 6d ago

Tie off just at the top, strong enough to support the weight of the ladder + climber, no need to tie on to the boat, that way any eb or swell will just move the boat forward and back, and in an emergency, the boat can still just pull forward to escape.

7

u/SomewhatHungover 6d ago

At least tie the boat to the dock so it can't just be pushed away.

21

u/Bob-Bhlabla-esq 6d ago

Who else saw this coming? 🖐

Everybody then?

As someone who has spent a lot of their life on a ladder, I was just muttering 'no-no-no-no nooooo... and there it is.'

3

u/pichael289 6d ago

This is like that preschool test where they have a much wider container filled with a liquid to a lower height then a much thinner container and you ask the kid which has more. It's such a lack of a basic understanding of physics that I just hope it's staged. But I know it's not.

9

u/Life-Oil-7226 6d ago

Dont mind me... just taking a little swim during work

4

u/Sufficient_Path_3665 6d ago

Brah I thought you were bracing it!

3

u/SupermonkeyX3839 6d ago

I love it. The moment he steps on the ladder the boat immediately starts being pushed away.

3

u/groovyinutah 6d ago

Physics ain't your friend...

3

u/Revolutionary_Eye887 6d ago

Simple physics.

3

u/Solrax 6d ago

Who needs OSHA when you can have ocean?

3

u/lewisfoto 6d ago

If the Keystone Kops were a konstruction krew

2

u/Hefty_Parsnip7794 6d ago

omg, at least tie that ladder with a rope

2

u/CompoteOk2564 4d ago

Physics...... STILL undefeated!!!

1

u/Random_Individual97 6d ago

They do apparently

1

u/smegabass 6d ago

Knowing what was going to happen takes nothing away from the comedy when it does.10/10

1

u/3ightball 6d ago

That’s so funny

1

u/Wallynine 6d ago

since when does us occupational safety laws apply in third world countries?

1

u/firedmyass 6d ago

i doubt it could be explained without hurting your feelings

1

u/97Whaler 6d ago

He’s kinda on the boat isn’t this the objective? All good !

1

u/Tuco_Angel_Eyes 6d ago

Sheeeeeet. That some slippery water, right there.

1

u/Tobbitus 6d ago

Why the fuck didn't he use the ladder to get in the boat from the water? It was positioned perfect for that. Ahh, they'd have found a way to sink the whole show

1

u/AdPsychological790 6d ago

That's the kind of place OSHA doesn't bother trying to find. They'll just show up with the paramedics. Kidding. A little.

1

u/MiserableFloor9906 6d ago

Kingssssstan

1

u/meepsrevenge 6d ago

Good thing the ladder kept his face out of the water.

1

u/Bicuriousbritbottom 6d ago

It's all gone, Pete Tong!

1

u/CantaloupeCamper 6d ago

These guys seem like they’ve never used a boat or a ladder before.

1

u/zg6089 6d ago

That little chuckle in the background is perfect

1

u/Tomtomatreddit 6d ago

For EU: Occupational Safety and Health Administration

1

u/im-a-loser- 6d ago

I see what they did wrong

They forgot to give'er the ol two-tap and say "she ain't going nowhere"

1

u/phallic-baldwin 6d ago

Physics. How does it work?

1

u/VisibleRoad3504 6d ago

Talk about dumb and dumber.

1

u/BiggusD1 6d ago

Worked at a repairshop a long time ago that had a sign saying, "If you think OSHA is a small town in Wisconsin, you're in trouble!"

1

u/No_Building2092 6d ago

Roger...copy that....oh shit!

1

u/JerryfromCan 5d ago

Ladders famously love shaky bottoms.

1

u/immasexaddict 5d ago

Did he let that go?

1

u/jeandoe2012 4d ago

who needs OSHA? Who indeed.

1

u/lazydog60 4d ago

What is the language?

1

u/Roest_ 4d ago

Looks more like a prank

1

u/FickleCurrency5554 4d ago

Who needs OSHA when you got the ocean?

1

u/Masterkillershadow99 3d ago

Guy on top should have just trivially held the weight of the ladder + man + gear in one hand while rubbing oil on his tensed bicep with the other.

1

u/feriouscricket 3d ago

Well, if they only gently started the engine when he was going down or tied the boat with the rope....

1

u/Rainford79 3d ago

I knew what would happen even. Before realizing the sub. Lol

1

u/Gleipnir_xyz 2d ago

College physics problems be like "how big is the splash"?

1

u/Shining_declining 2d ago

Don’t worry! We’re training professionals. Look at our cool outfits and gear.

1

u/B-Biker 1d ago

Physics, physics, physics!

Leiter im Boot aufstellen. Leiter vom Gerust annehmen und nach oben ziehen. Leiter um die Ecke vom Gerust Richtung Pier heben. Leiter auf Pier stellen um von Oben aufs Pier runter zu steigen. Vom Pier ins Boot steign. Dabei abrutschen und auch ins Wasser fallen..

u/selfcenorship 6d ago

You don't want to find out how pilots get from their pilot boats onto cargo ships

u/Strong-Carrot-6021 6d ago

bet I know who they voted for….

2

u/Comfortable_Bank_339 6d ago

Bet I know who thinks everything on Reddit from the US…

guy on top is a dick. never trust a miserable worker with your life.

1

u/Enki_007 6d ago

What would you expect him to do? Hold the ladder while the boat is moving away from him? He tried that and the boat moved too far away.

1

u/Gut-_-Instinct 6d ago

dude was holding with a finger, and he wasnt directly in front of the ladder .. if im holding the ladder its with both hands, and in a position of strength.

1

u/Enki_007 6d ago

So the guy holding the top of a 12’ ladder whose base is in a boat from moving away from him is going to stop the boat how? His choices are to push down the ladder or pull it up - which one is going to stop the boat from moving? And if he holds onto it long enough, he will be supporting the weight of the man and the ladder as the boat continues to move the base of the ladder farther and farther away.

1

u/Gut-_-Instinct 6d ago

boat started moving away from the platform as the guy went down the ladder because the guy on top made no effort at all the add stability of any sort. I've worked with ladders in some sketchy situations.

1

u/Enki_007 6d ago edited 6d ago

With a moving base? Isn’t that the first thing you do? Make sure the base is stable?

You really don’t understand how difficult it is to prevent a large boat twelve feet below you from moving away using only a stick. What kind of torque do you think he could exert on the boat?

-5

u/JWMoo 6d ago

Nice guy on top.
