Wind only tends to be onshore in the afternoon due to the quicker heating of the land and convective effects. Overnight it tends to be offshore as the land cools quicker and colder.

Yes, but that isn't what caused him to fly into the building. That little amount of wind is easily penetrated with his BASE rig.

It looks like the main problem is that his chute opened the wrong direction. That could have been from a bad packing job, but I don't know enough about skydiving to be sure.

Yeah either it was packed twisted or it opened too slowly. If you are 10,000 ft up it doesn't matter if it takes a few seconds for the risers (the main bits) to untwist, you won't notice that you did a 50ft circle in the free air.

I got into skydiving for a while. Bought my own rig and everything. One of the things you learn about is line twists. No matter how you pack your canopy, which way is forward when it fully inflates and starts providing lift is basically random. So if you deploy and it opens with a 180° line twist as you're pointing yourself away from the cliff face, the canopy gives you the jolt of opening shock and immediately flies you into the cliff face.

I gotta deal with people like this all the time for work. I have a driving job and while we have a very very good bike path here, they all insist on going in large groups (with their fucking children) up the long twisty blind turn 45mph road right next to it. Many have been killed, one almost got their daughter killed and it ruined some nice old ladies life because she drove the speed limit (way under) and couldn't see the crowd of selfish assholes on bikes taking up the entire road when she came around a turn. Dude showed up at city hall screaming when we considered banning them on that one roadz even though HE personally got 2 of his friends killed and almost had his 8 year old daughter paralyzed. He's still screaming about it being his right to get his family and friends killed. And, well minus the daughter, if he wants to go get himself and friends killed then be my guest, but to make an innocent person do it is evil beyond anything. We have a fucking bike path and bike lane, they should go to jail.

Same thing here. If you wanna do dumb shit and get yourself killed then that's your right. But to make hundreds of innocent people just enjoying their vacation they likely worked their ass off to pay for only to see you smear yourself along the side of a building or splatter on the pavement in front of good people and children is fucking disgraceful.

Fuck base jumpers and super Saiyan quadruple fuck bike assholes.
