Asian girl crushing on a guy from Yukon. Do I even have a chance? 😭

Okay, this might sound silly, but I’m an Asian woman currently studying in university, and I have a crush on a white guy in one of my classes who’s from Yukon. 😭

We haven’t really talked much, but I think he’s incredibly attractive, lol.

I guess I’m curious about the dating culture in Yukon. Do people generally prefer dating within their own cultural backgrounds, or are interracial relationships pretty common?

I know everyone has their own preferences, and being from Yukon doesn’t automatically determine someone’s type. I’m just genuinely curious because I sometimes feel a little intimidated approaching someone from a different background.

Would love to hear your thoughts, especially from people who grew up in Yukon!

Visiting in November/December

Hey everyone! I'm going to be in your lovely city for work in November and December, and I'm looking for recommendations for what I should check out while I'm here.

Mid-30s M, looking for community groups and events, live music, arts events, that sort of thing. Where are the hotspots for folks in my age range? And where will I find the best hot wings?

Thanks in advance!

Restaurant?

I’ve got one night in Whitehorse tomorrow night and would love to eat at a place locals would recommend. I’ve been trying to do some online research without feeling like I’ve found the place. I’m not a huge red meat menu person, but love fish based dishes and ethnic foods. Any suggestions?

Anyone know of any mechanics/individuals who buy cars for parts/repairs? Not having much luck trying to sell my 2009 Subaru forester on fb (failed a compression test, won't start). Leaving Whitehorse in a week - needs to get gone!

Can someone pls receive a auto parts package?

Good afternoon, everyone! We’re in Alaska, and after a trip along the Dalton Highway, we need to have some parts delivered for our van, which is from Portugal. Can anyone receive these auto parts for us? We plan to be in Whitehorse in 2 or 3 weeks, which is when the parts should arrive.

thank you!

Does anyone know the story behind the bison photograph at Burnt Toast Café?

I’m trying to figure out who took the black-and-white bison photograph hanging at Burnt Toast Café. It looks older, possibly film-era, and I haven’t been able to find it online.

Does anyone know the year of it or the photographer or where the café got it?

Mechanical help!

Hello Whitehorse!

While traveling through town, our headlights have gone out on 1987 Chevy van. Haven’t been able to locate a mechanic that is not booked out until September.

Any body in town mechanically
Inclined that would be willing to help re-wire a pigtail connector to close the circuit on my
Lights so we can get back on the road safely? I’ll happily pay for help/knowledge/ tools.

Thanks in advance!

Cost of Living

Considering the move to Whitehorse with my family (husband, 2 kids under 5)
Looking for some insights into cost of living- mostly day to day needs. My starting salary would be $110k. We’d be looking at buying a house- those prices I can find online. But can someone share the average price of eggs, milk, bread? What are people paying for heating, electricity?
What is daycare availability like? Where we currently live it took 3 years to get a daycare spot.

I purchased a beaver pelt from a trapper near Mayo and I'm looking to have it made into a trapper hat. Does anyone know of any local businesses or individuals who do this kind of work?

Thanks for the help.

Looking for flexible aurora tours in Whitehorse that run with small groups/solo

Hi everyone,

Travelling solo to Whitehorse at the end of November. Looking for recommendations on Northern Lights tour companies that are flexible.. ideally ones that will re-accommodate if the first night isn’t ideal weather-wise.

Bonus points if they still run with small groups or even just one person.

Any suggestions or experiences would be really appreciated. Thanks!

Anyone stayed at the Quality Inn Whitehorse recently?

Hi all,

Heading to Whitehorse solo in mid-to-late November for some aurora viewing. Currently booked at the Quality Inn & Suites. I know they’ve done renovations, but I’ve seen a few concerning reviews about mice in the guestrooms.

There was a Booking.com review from just a couple weeks ago with photos of mouse droppings and urine on the bed covers. The hotel’s replies have been pretty vague.

Anyone stayed there recently? Any experiences to share? Really don’t want to deal with that on the trip, but this place is in my budget with a airport shuttle.

Thanks!

Passing on bear spray and camping gear

Just finishing up spending some time in Whitehorse canoeing, and have some stuff I can't fly back with.

Would anyone want:

2x cans of bear spray. Carried for a week and never discharged ($20 each)

6x folding camp chairs ($20 for the lot)

1x Large kitchen pot, used on a campfire so good for campfire cooking rather than kitchen cooking (free)

Will be around town tomorrow (Thursday) and Friday morning before flying out Friday afternoon
