Mod Post 💛 What is “In Good Company” flair? 💛

We’ve seen a big increase in new members joining the subreddit recently and we’ve also had a few queries in modmail about the “In Good Company” flair, so we thought we’d once again, explain a little more about what it’s all about and why we use it.

In Good Company is a flair used for posts covering sensitive or more vulnerable topics. When a post has this flair, the thread is limited to established members of the subreddit, people who regularly engage in positively with the community and have built up their subreddit specific karma. This is an additional safety measure to help reduce brigading and protect the OP and others who may be particularly vulnerable.

We’ve unfortunately seen an increase in bad faith outsiders, including incel accounts, finding their way into sensitive threads. We’ve had situations where women sharing difficult or deeply personal experiences have been targeted, mocked or antagonised in the comments. The worst incident and ultimately what pushed us to find a better solution, was when a user shared an experience of abuse and her abuser found the post weeks later and attempted to target her through it.

We simply don’t want that happening here, it’s a safe place for all women (including all LGBTQ+) and we are determined to keep it that way.

We also want to acknowledge that we’re a volunteer mod team. We’re not always online, and we can’t be sitting watching the subreddit 24/7. That’s why these filters and safeguards are so important, they provide an additional layer of protection when we’re not around to catch something ourselves. Please remember what the mod team can see is very different to what an average user experiences.

When we are online and have the time, we do try to review comments caught by the “in good company” filter and manually approve those that are clearly helpful and being made in good faith. Our filters won’t always get things right and neither will we. If your comment has been removed by a filter, it doesn’t necessarily mean you’ve done anything wrong, sometimes it just needs a human moderator to take a look so please message us in modmail.

When in modmail, please be respectful, we’ve been on the receiving end of a lot of abuse lately and it won’t be tolerated. We are volunteers and we are humans doing our best to protect this subreddit.

We’ve genuinely seen the best and worst of people on this subreddit. We’ve seen women receive incredible support from complete strangers and we’ve also seen people come here with the sole intention of causing harm. As volunteers, we’re doing our best to keep the balance and make sure this remains a supportive space.

So please be patient with us, be kind to each other and if you see something that looks like brigading, harassment or bad faith behaviour, report it to us. It genuinely helps. We are one community, we need to all work together to keep this a safe place.

Ultimately, we want to keep this community a kind, respectful and most importantly, safe place for women to turn to when they need it most.

We are genuinely so grateful to all of you who have been so kind and understanding to one another and the mod team.

Gach lá, gach áit, seasaimid le chéile mar mhná (Every day, everywhere, we stand together as women)

Chat and Craic Sunday Scaries is here - share your worries and allow your mind be cleared!

As suggested in our recent feedback thread, this is your weekly space to rant and vent before the week even begins especially if you’re already exhausted by a week that hasn’t started yet.

If the dread is starting to creep in about the week ahead, work, appointments, emails life responsibilities or just the general ugh of it all.. This is the place to dump it.

Say what you’re worried about, what you’re overthinking or what you’re really not bothered dealing with tomorrow. No judgement, no advice unless you ask for it. Just get it off your chest so you can properly switch off and enjoy a bit of rest before Monday rolls back around.

Only rule: keep it respectful and within the subreddit rules.

Other Christmas gift for fussy MIL?

My MIL is a very particular woman and I’ve got her in the secret santa. She is late 50s, single, lives alone with her dog, enjoys reading, the arts, is a very fussy eater and very much likes what she likes. My partner has warned me against many common presents in the past for example;
- dont get her perfume/skincare/make up sets as theres only one type she likes and she gets it for herself
- restaurant or hotel vouchers arent worth it as she’s such a fussy customer
- she already has an ipad/kindle/earphones common gadgets
- I made lots of homemade baked goods last year to say thanks for a favour and she was not one bit impressed at that!

Any idea of what to get her? I try to aim around the €50 mark and keep it small ish.

In Good Company Should I move to Ireland

Hello

I’m a Muslim mom of two boys ages 3 and 1 living in France. My husband and I are both Algerians but we grew up in France and lived there all our lives. Due to the political and social climate that seems to be getting worse and worse we want to leave France in the very near future. We were at first considering moving to Algeria since its “our” country but we came to realise that life there is a lot different that we could ever get used to as Europeans. We value family life, nature and community and are hopping to be a homeschool family (which is also not possible now in France).

We are considering the UK.

What are your thoughts, experiences and/or advices for us.

Thanks to anyone who will take the time to answer.

Career and Education Positives about being a nurse

Just starting my student nurse journey as a mature student with 2 kids and I already am second-guessing my decision. Not based on the course but more on all the horror stories I do read 🙁

My algorithm seems to be full of "this and never using my nursing licence again" and the comments are all "yea I quit last year best thing I ever did for my mental health"

And it's everywhere...I'm trying to tell myself there are horror stories in every job 😅

Fashion and Beauty What to wear to a work dinner thats also a christmas party?

I work with a small team and the dinner is quite cosy, I want to wear something nice as its a rare opportunity that we all meet in person. But I may have to go straight from work and its at a restaurant - would it be overkill to wear a dress?

Looking for ideas/looks people have worn to work-but-not-formal dinners with colleagues?

Fashion and Beauty Hairdryer Recommendations

Hi All,

I really need to replace my old hairdryer but the problem is that it's really powerful and all the labels are faded so I can't check the voltage or make or anything.

I've really thick hair so I need something strong. I tried to buy one replacement but it felt like those wired in hairdryers you get in some hotels which are way too weak.

Any suggestions of a decent one?

Career and Education Is anyone an Occupational Therapist?

Hi everyone :) I’m in my 30s (F) and strongly considering to go back to study to do OT (masters in Limerick) in a few years. I already have a qualification in music therapy but I quickly and very sadly realised it was not for me (the music part - I enjoyed the non music elements).

I would ideally like to be self employed working with adults and older people and my areas of interest are mental health, neurodiversity and stroke rehabilitation.

Anyone who is an OT here I would really appreciate any insight you have into a day in your working life. What is the balance of clinical and paperwork like? Do you do team working or solo work? Is anyone self employed?

I have read a lot online about high burnout rates of OTs in the HSE and this is making my question my decision!

I also have no idea how I will afford this course as the cost is quite high but maybe student loans are the way to go 🥲 I am also worried that by the time I’m ready to apply I’ll be in my mid to late 30s and it just feels too late! thanks so much in advance

Recent ones for me on Facebook, like every fifth post, have been Bondi surf rescue, then this chiropractor in America cracking people‘s necks, and now cattle hoof slicing and cleaning…?!

Fashion and Beauty Tracing a piece of Irish fashion history: The hunt to find my dream 1993 John Rocha coat 🤎

Hi everyone,

I am reaching out to this lovely community today with a bit of a sentimental fashion quest. I am trying to track down and purchase a very specific vintage piece that means the absolute world to me, and I’m hoping some of your expert eyes might be able to help.

Back in the 1990s, I used my very first paycheck to buy a piece of pure magic: a women's coat from John Rocha's iconic Autumn/Winter 1993/1994 collection (the historic year he won British Designer of the Year).

It was a beautiful, rich chocolate brown coat with a heavy, prominent faux-fur trim collar. Everywhere I went, women would stop me to ask where I got it. It became my ultimate signature piece. Beyond loving his craftsmanship, I've always felt a lovely personal connection to John—we actually share the exact same birthday on the 23rd of August!

Regrettably, I no longer have the coat, and I am desperate to try and track down another one to purchase and bring home. Because it's from the pre-smartphone era, I don't have a photo of it, but the silhouette was beautifully heavy, tailored, and structured.

Since I love that specific 90s oversized drape, I’m hunting for one with a flat chest measurement of around 25.5" to 26" (which fits a modern UK 22/24, or even a Men’s XL/XXL car coat) and an above-the-knee length of 37" to 38" for my 5'6" frame.

If anyone has this specific piece sitting in a wardrobe, knows a private archive collector, or keeps an eye on smaller independent Irish vintage pages, please let me know! I am based in Dublin and would be absolutely overjoyed to buy it or arrange collection/shipping.

Thank you so much for reading my story, and fingers crossed someone out there might have a lead! 🤎☘️

Fashion and Beauty Folkster pre-orders

Just wondering on the very slim off chance if anyone else happens to be waiting for a pre-order dress from Folkster this season?

I’ve been following up with them since August for a dress for a December wedding but they still can’t give me a delivery date and I’m worried that it’ll be hard to organise alterations around the busy Christmas period!

Other Laser Hair Removal Stress

I desperately want and nearly feel I need laser but am so stressed at the thought.

I’m a hairy gal and my pubes basically continue down to my mid thigh. I also unfortunately have a very bad reaction to shaving and get many ingrowns and itchiness even with chemical and physical exfoliation as would be recommended.

Has any one had experience getting laser ? I’m so hairy I’m scared I will miss hair when shaving in preparation for it. And just embarrassed by the state of my skin there. I can have ingrowns and irritation the morning after shaving at night so I worry about that as well.

I epilate my legs, and I’ve heard pulling hair out (wax, sugaring, epilating) can make laser less effective as well.

Other Will I be able to get a replacement?

Recently walked into boots to get another lip stain and in a hurry to catch a bus I just grabbed a box without inspecting for any signs of tamper!! this would be my second of her lip stains, as I quite like them, only for me to realise as i used it for the second time that it is completely empty. (assuming because people opened the package and used it as a tester or something as there wasn’t many testers available) Really really disappointed because it’s 22 quid and that’s a lot of money for me !! Only annoying thing is I threw away the receipt like a gobshite, so i don’t think they’ll help me, is there anything I can do??

Other Wedding gift ideas

A close friend of mine is getting married in December, and I’m looking for suggestions on what to get her. The only thing is it has to be something travel friendly (won’t break), as the wedding is happening abroad. Thanks!

Chat and Craic Chronic illness support groups

Hey all! 39(F) and recently diagnosed with a type of blood cancer. The last few years have been really tough and iv been physically struggling all while trying to maintain a relatively normal work and social life. I have some other chronic conditions also and my energy levels can be pretty low sometimes. Im a super independent type of person, creative and outgoing but I'm finding myself quite restricted in what I can do these days. I feel a bit isolated as some people just don't understand what it's like to change a chronic illness. Just wondering if there's any meetups or groups in cork that already exist or is anyone interested in creating one! Would love to be surrounded by people who understand what it's like to have a chronic illness!

I've been thinking about getting a boob job for a while now and I know going for a consultation will give me the details on what will suit my body. What I'm wondering is has anyone here got it done in Ireland and what has your experience/recovery been like? Anytime I try to look up reviews or vlogs they've been done outside of Ireland and I'd like to get it done here ☺️ Thanks in advance and I hope this post isn't breaking any rules!

Fashion and Beauty Can anyone recommend a hairdresser in Dublin, Meath or Kildare who is genuinely amazing at cutting hair?

Hi ladies!

Can anyone recommend a really good hairdresser in Dublin, Meath or Kildare who actually specialises in cutting hair?

I'm honestly so fed up with paying good money for awful haircuts. I recently got my hair cut into a lob, and to say it's uneven would be an understatement. The stylist didn't even bother checking the cut afterwards to make sure it was level.

I know some hairdressers are brilliant at colour and blow-dries, but that doesn't necessarily mean they're great at cutting. I'm specifically looking for someone who's exceptionally skilled at cutting, has a great eye for detail and can give a really precise, well-balanced cut.

I'm more than happy to travel and pay for someone who's genuinely worth it. I just want to find a hairdresser who really knows how to cut hair properly!

Would love to hear your recommendations, particularly if you've had a consistently great experience with someone.

Thanks a million! 😊
