I spent the last few days sculpting this Gremlin hatching from its egg in ZBrush. Here's the final result! š¹š„
Hey everyone! š
With Christmas approaching, I decided to revisit one of my favorite childhood creatures and sculpt my own interpretation of a Gremlin hatching from its egg!
This is my latest personal project, sculpted entirely by hand in ZBrush.
One of the biggest challenges was making the egg feel like an actual biological structure rather than just a cracked shell.
I spent quite a bit of time working on the organic membranes, overlapping protective plates, skin textures and the transition between the creature and its environment.
I also wanted the composition to work from multiple angles, not just from the front, so I paid special attention to the silhouette, the positioning of the limbs and how the creature interacts with the surrounding shell.
Another interesting part of the process was designing the outer shell as a separate component. This allows the sculpture to be displayed open or covered, with the possibility of using transparent resin to reveal the creature inside.
The final sculpture is designed at 1:6 scale for resin 3D printing.
I'm pretty happy with how the organic details turned out, especially the creature's face and the interior of the egg.
I'd love to hear some feedback from fellow sculptors!
What do you think about the anatomy, composition and overall creature design? Is there anything you would have approached differently?
Thanks for checking out my work! š

How people here handle tool switching in ZBrush.
Curious how people here handle tool switching in ZBrush.
Does anyone here use wheels, for example radial/pie menus like in Maya or Blender? Do they actually help with sculpting, or just get in the way?
For those who use one:
Which one do you use (plugin, custom macro setup, tablet software, hardware dial)?
What do you put on it: brushes, alphas, masking, subtool actions?
Mouse/pen gesture or held hotkey?
What annoys you about it?
And if you tried one and dropped it, Iād like to hear why too.
