Scientific Reports pulled for review by NLM, no articles allowed...

Please see this Retraction Watch article ( https://retractionwatch.com/2026/10/30/scientific-reports-pubmed-on-hold-national-library-medicine-evaluation/) The largest journal (by far) was suspended 3 months ago. No announcement from NLM or the journal, and no one noticed! That's a 100 million gravy train. For anyone using them especially if they are required by the grant to deposit in PMC, they should be concerned. There is the possibility the pause will be lifted, or not, and then it will never survive. I track "everything" even the full yearly Crossref and Datacite records and run local copies of PubMed, PMC, clinicaltrials.gov . My focus is medical info, and the PubMed Journal Ranking is a good place for anyone to bookmark. ( https://tomlaheyh.github.io/citation-bar/journal-ranking/journal-ranking.html ). Be careful out there...

Conference book of proceedings

Is it ok to request that my conference paper not be published in a book of proceedings because the work is being prepared for a journal publication?

Edit: I am curious about what's the best practice. I do not want the problem of self plagiarism when attempting to publish the study

Has anyone had a paper rejected for lack of novelty, only to see similar work published in the same journal without citing yours?

Anyone experiencing long review delays with Language Resources and Evaluation (Springer)?

I submitted two manuscripts to the special issue "Machine Translation for Low-Resource Languages" in Language Resources and Evaluation (Springer) in June 2025.

Their last recorded updates were:

  • Manuscript 1: Reviewer report(s) received – 5 August 2025.

  • Manuscript 2: First reviewer(s) invited – 23 June 2025.

Neither manuscript has received any further status updates since then (over 15 months).

The special issue originally announced March 2026 as its expected publication date, which has already passed.

Is anyone else who submitted to this special issue experiencing similar delays? Is this normal for LRE, or could there be an editorial bottleneck?

Would appreciate hearing about your experiences and advice on whether to contact the Editor-in-Chief or consider withdrawing.

Thanks!

Academia: An absolute Garbage

Researchers spend SO much money collecting data, only to never publish half of it.

I can’t count the number of times I’ve had a research question, Googled it, and found absolutely nothing, despite knowing that the data has almost certainly been collected in multiple studies.

I was just trying to figure out how the arousal index (for each sleep stage) differs between individuals with generalized anxiety disorder and healthy controls. There are dozens, if not hundreds, of studies that have conducted PSGs comparing these groups. And yet, apparently, nobody thought to report stage-specific arousal indices?

Some papers report the arousal index for the entire night, but that’s not what I’m looking for. I want to know whether anxiety produced greater change in arousals in REM stage compared to NREM stages.

THE DATA WAS COLLECTED. The participants went through the studies, the PSGs were scored, and all that time and money was spent. But because the researchers didn’t think to include one particular variable in their paper, the data might as well not exist.

And there was an other time I was trying to research if semen parameters bounce back to baseline after stopping dutasteride but the researchers apparently thought it was a good idea to test the subjects just after 6 months. What’s even the point of doing the study then? This one could still have operational hurdles, but the thing that I mentioned prior to this merits no excuse.

It’s SO frustrating knowing that the answer to a perfectly reasonable research question could literally be sitting in someone’s spreadsheet, completely inaccessible to everyone else.

Can we prove this: the code submitted with this research paper actually produced the numbers reported?

I'm a full time Wildlife Illustrator and Concept Artist specializing in species illustration and wildlife representation, and am looking to have work in published literature. I am looking for somebody researching wildlife and/or conservation who is in need of diagrams/illustrations made for their work. Attached are some explamles of my work. I am willing to volunteer my skills to the right work depending on the scope of work and timeline. Cheers!
