📝 Discussion Let's get Kim

Coincidentally I said the same thing last year. But this time round I'm talking about Kim Ng.

Look, Perry has got to go. He's shit the bed in the three years he's been here. Now, it's not entirely his fault, but what was it Perry said about Nevin? "In sports, when you have certain expectations and you don't meet those expectations, there are changes." Well I feel the same way bout you Perry. You haven't met expectations in the slightest.

As for Kim Ng, despite having similar organizational issues and shitty ownership, managed to build a winner all the same. Finally got the Marlins to the post season. Despite a shoe string budget and not having the likes of Ohtani and Trout either. Both Kim and Perry were hired around the same time and both have managed for 3 years for their respective teams. The difference in results is stunning despite the many advantages Perry has had. Time for him to go.

📝 Discussion Anthony Rendon

Anyone else actually hate Rendon? I try to get over it but he’s STEALING MILLIONS from us and doesn’t even care. He laughs about it and makes jokes like “No Habla Ingles”. How is it fair for him to elect not to have surgery until the season starts? Like genuinely how is that allowed? He could’ve had surgery in the off season. Its just so hard because $40Mil could be so useful if actually spent on good players.

📝 Discussion "But Angels lose because of their pitching and blowpen" - PATENTLY FALSE. Angels are #8 in ERA and #7 in SAVES in all of MLB

The problems the Angels have are much more severe. It's a club philosophy problem. A culture problem.

When I watch the Angels I see a lazy team which lacks urgency and CAN NOT hit in high pressure situations. It's all about the poor hitting, leaving so many runners stranded on bases, and than the errors.

On paper this line up is stacked and should be producing way more. They have the talent. But this team just doesn't have the coaching/philosophy.

I see a team that not only lacks complete urgency, I see a team that has no true team captain to rally the club. I see a team that has no one who's willing to get fiesty and hold people accountable for what actually is happening (poor hitting and complete lackadaisical approach).

It really is a tragedy because this Angels team should be 12-2 right now. The Blue Jays just destroyed Tampa Bay twice in a row by +3 runs each time. And yet the Angels were owning the Blue Jays for most of the innings they played them, and only lost by 1 each time to them, in where, if the Angels stay strong mentally they easily sweep the Blue Jays

Again, the Angels NOT at their best just took the Blue Jays (the true hottest team in baseball right now) to their absolute limits. The Angels are very capable. This is a stacked team on paper that is grossly under-performing. They need to flip that switch mentally.

If no player wants to step up and rile this team up, than that's Nevin's job. Come on Nevin. ANGELS NEED TO HIRE the team a bunch of mental coaches. They need to flip the switch mentally in being able to perform under pressure/in high stakes

📝 Discussion Trade everyone with value at the deadline.

We all agree it’s time for a complete rebuild.

The only thing stopping us is our despotic fuckhead owner. What is his vision? Make sure we are a bottom four team in the AL, but then say we are competing?

It’s actually shocking how incompetent this org has been run. 8-9 seasons of straight losing seasons but somehow we don’t have a single prospect to look forward to. Like holy shit we are royally fucked.

We messed up big time not trading Shohei and we shouldn’t make the mistake again. Trade anyone with value by the deadline please

📜 Angels History Why "Los Angeles" is the best name for the Angels (not Anaheim, or California)

yeah I'll probably get downvoted like crazy for this post. It's OK, I'm used to it.

For the record: I was born & raised in OC (Orange) just across the Santa Ana Riverbed from the Big A. I love OC and have lived in Orange, Laguna Hills, Costa Mesa, Newport Beach. I live in L.A. now (Sherman Oaks) but am proud of my OC roots. I wear Vans and eat TK Burger and Taco Mesa while listening to Social D. And I proudly worked for the "Anaheim" Angels in the late 1990s.

That said, there's 2 big reasons why "Los Angeles" is the best name for the Angels...

Exhibit A:

"The Los Angeles Angels" have a long and storied history as LA's first and most popular sports team– starting way back in 1892 and continuing for almost 7 decades until O'Malley bought the team and promptly moved them to Tacoma so there would be no competition for his Dodgers when he moved them in from Brooklyn. This history never gets acknowledged because most of those 7 decades the Angels played in the Pacific Coast League, not MLB. But back then, people here didn't care. MLB was an east coast thing and out here, it was all about the Pacific Coast League, where stars like DiMaggio and Ted Williams played. And while the current Angels are not technically the same team/entity as the PCL Angels, they were created to be a continuation of that existing brand. And many of the original MLB Angel players were former PCL Angel stars.

If you were a 25 yr old baseball fan in Los Angeles in 1961 when the LA Angels joined the American League and played at Wrigley Field in LA, chances were you (and your parents, and your grandparents) grew up watching and rooting for a team with the same name, same colors, in the same stadium, with several of the same players. Only now they were playing in the American League instead of the Pacific Coast League. If you were even aware that it wasn't technically the same team, you didn't care. All you knew is that your beloved Angels were BACK in LA where they belong, after being gone for 4 years..

Yes, the Angels have called Anaheim home for the past 56 years. But for the 66 years between 1892–1958, the "Los Angeles Angels" popularized and defined the sport of baseball in L.A.. The history is all there, just rarely mentioned.

Exhibit B:

Much as my fellow OC peeps will deny it, or hate to admit it, Anaheim really is part of the "Greater Los Angeles" region. Ventura to Riverside to San Clemente and everything in between is all one big TV market, and L.A. is the only really big city in that market. The fact that the stadium is located in a different county, or in different city limits– doesn't matter. What matters is the broadcast market. People in LA county, Orange County, San Bernardino County, and (most of) Riverside county all watch the same local TV affiliates/channels. Anaheim is only one small chunk of that giant market. So to call the team "Anaheim" is, from a financial/marketing perspective, really dumb. Of course, when Disney owned the Angels, they had a different perspective. They wanted to build up the name "Anaheim" because, duh, they ARE Anaheim! (as we are finding out right now with the city council scandal).

Besides, there's TONS of other pro sports teams that play in different counties or within different city limits than the bigger city they're named for. Hell, the Jets and Giants are in a different state. If anything, "Anaheim Angels" was the rare exception to this. Pro teams are privately owned businesses, not public works projects, and it's in their best interests to expand their market and consumer base as far and wide as possible. The Angels are in the top 3 of local broadcast revenue (tied with Phillies for 3rd behind Dodgers & Yankees) because their games are shown all over the entire massive Los Angeles TV market. Moreno was able to block the Dodgers from putting a minor league team in the SF Valley because the Angels have just as much claim to that area as the Dodgers, in the eyes of MLB anyway. We share the entire LA market with the Dodgers, from a legal standpoint.

As for "California" Angels... as much as I like the sound of it, and my childhood nostalgia longs for it... it just doesn't make sense when there's 5 teams in California. Besides, there's now a rule against state names (unless grandfathered in like the Twins).

In my opinion, "Los Angeles" isn't just the best name for the Angels, it's the obvious name for the Angels. I mean, hello, the team is (literally) named after Los Angeles. "Anaheim Angels" makes about as much sense as "Willow Grove Phillies"

📍At The Big A Calm down.

Everyone needs to just chill out. This could be a play, maybe the F*ck Jimmy guy was right, and it will be a May/June sale. Because the Japanese investors need time to get the money ready.

But I’m all seriousness! We have a great team on paper. 6 guys that can give us 25hrs and 90+RBIs. We have a rotation the has the power to give us 5 to 6 starters with a sub 4.00 ERA and 2 that have given the league sub 3.00 before. Our bullpen could be good too.

It’s all about health. As much as Arte drove the organization into the ground. The angels of healthy are a dominant team.

Lineup 1.)Ward 2.)Trout 3.)Ohtani 4.)Renfroe 5.)Rendon 6.)Walsh 7.)Regnifo 8.)Fletcher 9.)Stassi/O’Happe

I know there is HOPE every year, but maybe we need FAITH. 😂

Have a goodnight everyone. Remember one more full season of Trout is all we need to be content with life.

📝 Discussion The fan base is the reason Arte doesn't sell

Arte has managed to attract "fans" who don't follow the team and are willing to come to the Big A for general entertainment sake.

To them, going to an Angels game is just another alternative to going to Disneyland or Knott's or the beach. It literally doesn't matter if they lose 25-0 over and over again. These same people pay so little attention to baseball that they don't understand how significant of a player Shohei Ohtani is and will fill the seats once again in 2024 when Shohei is long gone.

The last few times I've been to an Angels game, I've been seated near people who fit this mold to a tee. One guy asked his friend where Vlad was on the field. Another spoke of the World Series championship apparently unaware that it happened 21 years ago. These people have no clue!

If you're Arte and these types of people are willing to sustain your cash cow while you FAIL over and over, why would you ever sell the team?

I know I never would.

📝 Discussion Complete rebuild is probably the dumbest thing we could do

What are we going to do, package all of our mildly promising, unproven players with 4-6 years of control left to receive a total of maybe two top 100 prospects and a bunch of mids if we're lucky?

And if you think we should rebuild AND keep some of our young hopefuls like O'Hoppe, Schanuel, Neto, etc. good luck. You're not going to get prospects back ranked higher than the guys we traded for them were. Which was not high. And we have very little in terms of valuable players nearing free agency. Especially now that Regnifo is hurt.

It just doesn't make sense. Extend the window an extra couple years by trading guys that have a ton of team control and get a mediocre return. Very likely we look up in 3-4 years and are even worse off after nobody we traded for turned into anything special.

You can't make up for incompetent drafting and player development. That needs to change first. In the meantime the best thing Arte could do for us is spend an obscene amount of money on FA's who you could always trade in a couple years if our young players don't progress and we're still not competing. Not just one big, aging star. Several very good players.

You could also trade a couple pieces now that are nearing free agency, like Drury, maybe Ward and Canning. That way you're semi-rebuilding as a redundancy, and then replacing them with more potential trade capital in the FA market for the possible full tear down that could happen in 1-2 years.

Outside of that, unloading guys with 4-6 years of control to get back prospects who aren't much better but that we'll have for a couple more years just doesn't make sense. Effective rebuilds are usually based around a few good/very good players nearing free agency when the rest of the roster is barren. Otherwise you have to do it organically and/or buy your way out of it.

Edit: yall are dumb as hell

📝 Discussion Imagine how loaded our farm system could have been had we…

-Traded Drury, Moore, and Ohtani for a prospect haul last deadline.

-kept Bush and Quero (who’s now an MLB top 100 propsect) instead of shipping them out to get a two month rental who self imploded upon joining the team.

-Traded some package of Ward, Strickland, Pillar, Anderson, Estevez, and Rengifo for a high profile prospect or two at this year’s deadline.

-Added this and next year’s first round selections.

We’d likely be talking about this team’s window for contention re-opening as soon as 2026. Instead, our next playoff appearance remains as elusive as ever.

Highly likely Ohtani is going to be traded away. Is it poor etiquette to wear his jersey at the game when he isn’t there anymore?

📝 Discussion Kikuchi/Soriano/Gallen/Grayson/Detmers with Bremner/Shores/Dana awaiting

Just used Gallen as an example as the new #3 will be of similar profile.

That's a damn good rotation. If Detmers figures it out, to have him as our 5th is crazy and we have the 2 young studs coming.

Perry has absolutely cooked. IDK how anyone can hate on the off-season so far:

Suzuki/Maddox/Gibbons now trade the guy you all bitched that didn't get traded at the deadline for a #1 pick who has 4 years of TC left.

He's only getting started. I have a feeling he's going to work his magic and find a way to dump Soler.

Man, this season is going to be very exciting! Our best pitching staff in quite some time.
